Barty My Darling
Evan pushed open the door, he slipped through the door, locking it behind him. Escaping the sounds of gunfire and slaughter. He was done. All he wanted now was to find Barty. He just needed a second to breathe.
Distantanly, He thought of what he would do when he found his love. Evan would grab him and kiss him. Hard. They'd then run out of the building, climb into a van and drive until it broke down. Oh how'd they would smile. They would live out their days in a small wooden cabin in the mountains. Hidden from the world. They'd get the goat Barty had always wanted and name it Ivy. The three of them would grow old together, laughing in the forest, twirling in a dance, waking up together on rainy mornings, Sitting together on bad days. Forever together. Evan and Barty would finally get their happy ending after a lifetime of torment.
Evan smiles.
Muffled shouts from down the hall quickly diminish his momentary smile. He walks further down the cold hallway, the floor was sticky and wet. Curious and anxiety filled, he turned on his flashlight to see puddles of fresh blood. He lifted his gun again. Evan walked on even as his leg throbbed terribly. There was a lot of blood. Too much. His footsteps echoed around him. He could hear his heart pounding but his gun was steady. It was so silent, so fucking silent.
But then the shouts start again. Evan swears that it's Barty screaming. That is until the screams turn into begs and sobs. Barty would never beg.
“Please! Please! I can't leave him! You don't understand! Please! I'm sorry! I'm so sorry!” The sobs are nearly unbearable. Just as Evan is about to turn around the shouts are muffled once again.
Muffled and with one last shout they go silent.
Evan’s mind stops and restarts. He continues walking along the blood slowly.
The trail disappeared into a door that had been left slightly ajar. Evan throws himself at the door; it slams hard into the wall. As his eyes adjust slowly to the small room, he sees the crumpled figure on the floor. And the open window.
He creeps towards the body and sees that their heart was laying next to them. Someone ripped out their fucking heart? There is a bullet wound through their thigh.
The body looks familiar to him.
Evan flipped them on their back and-
Oh.
Oh.
He knew that face.
That was his darling Barty
His Barty.
He dropped to his knees.
He stares.
Minutes pass.
Maybe hours.
Evan sits and looks down at Barty.
His mind starts.
He can still save him.
Surly Barty cant die.
No, they were going to die together. When they were old. This, this surely cannot be the end of Barty Fucking Crouch Jr.
"No no no no no." Evan grabs the slippery heart and shoves it back into the gaping hole in Bartys chest. It makes a wet squalsh as it goes back in.
"No no no no no.” He keeps repeating it like it will fix anything.
Tears run down his face dripping onto Bartys chest.
Evan is suddenly filled with unsurmountable rage. How dare he? How dare he? That bastard went on to die without him. And there was nothing he could do about it. There is no more Evan and Barty. Now it's just Evan and that will never change. Bartys heartbeat is forever extinguished. The open window. Evan sprints to it and practically climbs out of it. Barty’s murderer lays on the pavement beneath.
Evan screams.
He screams
and screams
and screams
Until his voice is gone.
Why does this always happen to them? They were so happy. Why don't they get their happy ending?
He lays down next to Barty and holds onto him, sobbing on his slick stomach.
Just as his eyes are about to close, he feels the thrumming of the stab wound in his thigh again. He doesn't care. Not without his Barty.
And he slips away.
Somewhere far away in the mountains, A young boy screams as he falls to his knees. Sobbing Evan’s name.
