Trouble with sleep
James wakes up alone in the bed. It’s not unusual these days. Harry’s teeth just started to grow, and the little one has trouble sleeping, keeping them awake most of the night. He is indeed surprised by the silence in the house. He decides to wait for Regulus to come back but the minutes stretch out.
His curiosity makes better of him as he kicks off the blanket and sets his bare feet on the ground. He tiptoes to the child's bedroom careful not to make any noise. If he accidentally wakes Harry up Regulus will kill him just by a look.
He enters the room that's all dark and quiet. The only light is the shining fake stars on the ceiling. James looks around, but no trace of his husband. He is about to leave when he hears a very soft “James.”
He looks in the direction the voice came from. He has to focus to spot a hand waving from Harry’s crib. Regulus is lying in the crib on his side, legs curled up underneath him in a way that can’t be comfortable, sleeping Harry pressed against his chest. Thank god they bought the bigger crib.
James crouches down as he whispers. “Reggie? What are you doing?” He would have laughed at the situation, but to be honest both of them are too tired.
“He just kept crying… and I don’t know. It was the only thing I could think of.”
“Do you need help getting out?”
Regulus shakes his head. “I’m gonna stay here. It looks like he is sleeping better this way so... I just want to be near him.”
James nods and makes a quick decision. He goes back to the main bedroom to take a soft blanket for Regulus and his blanket and pillow. He hands the blanket to Regulus and sets his own on the ground right next to the crib.
“James?”
“If you are sleeping here, I’m sleeping here. We are in this together.” James says and he can see the soft tired smile that spreads across Regulus’ face full of gratitude and love. He reaches out so they can hold hands through the bars of the crib.
“Marry me,” Regulus whispers holding onto James’ hand tight.
“We are already married.” James chuckles.
“Marry me again. It’s not enough. I just…”
James sits up to kiss their intertwined fingers. “I love you too.”
