Chase
James is sitting on the floor in the middle of their dorm trying to wrap a present for Remus’ birthday. He's already wrapped it in wrapping paper and all it's left is the ribbon which turns out to be an issue.
Until now Regulus was sleeping in his animagus form right next to him. He transformed into Dawn an hour ago. The name Dawn comes from the grey-blue colour of the cat’s fur which reminds James of the colour of the sky just before the sun rises.
Dawn has been enjoying the march sunlight warming his fur. Well, until now. As soon as Dawn spots the ribbon James notices the quick change in his eyes before he jumps out and attacks the golden stripe. It’s so fast that James doesn’t have the chance to react, and the cat snatches it out of his hand and starts viciously shredding it with his claws and sharp teeth.
There is a bit of a battle when James tries to take it back but shortly recognizes his defeat. Dawn is too fast for him and the same as Regulus when he sets his mind on something he doesn’t let go. And he seems really interested in the ribbon right now. James chuckles and cuts off a long chunk of the stripe. Without looking away from the cat he flicks his wand to levitate it. It surprises the cat, so he lets it go for a moment before he starts running after it with the determination to catch his prey.
James finishes wrapping Moony’s present with a cat running all around the dorm. When he is finished, he flicks his wand again to slow the ribbon down so Dawn is finally able to catch it. Regulus would hate to feel like he lost.
When he turns towards him, he can see the cat lying on his back, wrapped in the ribbon, and happily chewing on its end.
