in death, we will not part

“Alex–” Regulus said. “Alex you have to realise, you have to understand, please...”

He stood, well in reality floated, in the middle of his old room watching his still alive fiance pace. His gaze downturned as he stared at the ring now on the floor, two snakes, one black, one silver, weaving together to hold an emerald in their fangs, the ring he proposed with.

“Alex, darling I had to. For your safety, for everyone's lives,” He pleaded, the ghost of what he used to be as he watched his other half tremble.

Alex ignores him, doing his best to convince himself his dead future husband's ghost isn't there. He trots down stairs, going making some tea to try and pretend that Regulus is out at work. Alex was his future husband. And he left.

Regulus followed every movement with his eyes. His heart ached as he took in the fact that Alex thought he left him, when in fact it was the opposite.

Regulus floated closer to him, wanting so much to reach out, to hold Alex one last time. "Alexander, my sweet thing... You have to believe me... Everything I did..." His voice breaks for a moment.

"Everything I've done was for you, is for you," Regulus pleaded. He was desperate for Alex to believe him.

Alex trys to hold himself back but fail miserably. "I don't wanna live without you though. You left me!" He crys out to the ghost.

The sound of Alex's crying made him ache to come back to him. The sight of Alex hurting made Regulus want nothing more than hug him and never let him go again.

"I don't want you to live without me either, darling. But I had to go," Regulus said solemnly. "But you can't give up on life because of my passing, Alexander. Promise me you won't, alright?" He whispered.

"No, no, I don't wanna do it anymore. The only reason I'm still here is you," Alex says. He's trying to hold himself together but Regulus was the entire reason he stopped cutting himself.

The ghost of Regulus's expression shifted as he listened to Alex's words and remembered what he tried to help him through. "Darling, I beg of you. Don't speak like that! You're more than that! You can't let my absence stop you from living. I was your fiancé, but I was not your everything. I was never your everything, you were and always have been your own person."

"I am, in this moment, asking you to keep living. Live for me. Don't hurt yourself for me," He pleaded with you.

"I don't wanna. Reggie, I don't wanna. I'm so so sorry. Please, I'm sorry, I wanna kill myself, I wanna cut myself!" Alex yells back.

Regulus's expression changed once more. His tone grew more direct. "Darling, I'm going to be blunt. As a ghost, I cannot physically touch you. But I want you to live and you need to do it healthily. Survive. Get a therapist. Talk to your brother."

"Just live."

Regulus won't take no for an answer. His tone was stern, but his expression was pleading and desperate. Alex sobs into his hands, shaking his head rapidly.

Regulus looked down at him with sympathy in his eyes. "Alex, look at me.".

"Alex, it hurts me to see you like this. We said in our engagement that 'in death, we will not part'. This is what that means, you're not allowed to die with me... Not yet, anyway." He whispered. There was so much pain in his voice.

"But I don't wanna do this without you, please." Alex hiccups out, his sobs dry and hoarse as his tears start running dry.

"Alex, I want you to live. I am begging you to live." Regulus' voice cracked as he spoke. He took in Alex's crying as he stared at him, hovering in the air.

"Please, Alex... Don't waste your life over me. It was my choice... My sacrifice. I have no regrets, I just want you to live. That's my one request." Regulus sobs out, no tears coming out because he's a ghost.

Alex reaches out very shakily to touch him but his hand just goes through him and Alex sob even more.

Regulus' heart ached as he saw Alex's struggle to reach him and how that only made his crying worsen. He couldn't touch him, and that bothered him so much. He stared down at Alex with sympathy.

"Alex, my love, I can't go on without you either, my heart is empty without you, but I'll be damned if I let you go with me. You cannot allow my choices and your love to make you join in death. Please, I beg of you. Live, my handsome dlarling."

Regulus's pleas have become extremely heartfelt and desperate.

"Okay. I'll try. But I don't want to see your ghost all of the time. I love you so so so much, but if I keep seeing you I'm gonna be re-traumatised everytime. I love you though, so much. I always will."

"I know, My Darling." He whispered.

Regulus' translucent form began to fade slightly as he spoke, "I just couldn't leave you alone, My Love." Regulus' voice had a mix of emotion and care as he spoke his final words to you. "I have to go now, but just know..."

"I will always watch over you, with or without you being able to see my ghost." Regulus's entire form faded. Once he completely faded away there was a ring, like a light blue halo with a soft glow that hovered just above Alex's head.

With that, Alex lets out the most gut wrenching sob, doubling over in physical pain as he sees Regulus disappear once and for all.

"Good Bye My Darling."

The voice was barely audible and the halo above Alex faded to nothing.
