our boys in the closet
James did the first thing he knew he should do in this situation: He was going to talk to Remus. Despite the odd disappearance yesterday, there was a loud knock on the door at exactly 3pm. James rushed to open it, pushing Sirius out of his way to stop him getting there first. The door swung open easily to reveal the freckled boy James was waiting for. Remus was here.
Before Sirius could even reach where the two boys were stood together, he grabbed Remus' hand and pulled him towards the stairs, passing a confused looking Regulus who quickly winks at James, scoffing when he doesn't get a reaction back. He pulled Remus all the way up the stairs and into his bedroom, carefully shutting the door behind them both.
Remus looked confused. "What are you doing? I just got here, I couldn't even say hello to Sirius!" he pouts.
James rolls his eyes, slightly giggling to himself, "You can say hello to him later, this is far more important."
Remus nods slowly, biting his lip. "Go on then, say what you need to tell me." And James does. He tells Remus all about Regulus, how he was ignoring him, how he swore to hate his best friend's little brother, and then, finally, about how Regulus was flirting with him in the kitchen. Remus looked slightly amused through all of this, repressing a giggle when James tells him about Regulus calling him Jamie.
He flops back onto his bed, shoving his face into one of his pillows. "It isn't fair! First he ignores me and now he wants me, what am I supposed to do?" Remus strokes the back of James' head carefully, ruffling his already messed up hair. "What am I supposed to do, Remus?" Sighing, he stands up, taking his hand off of James' head and holding out the hand for James to take, carefully sitting him up. "Here's what we'll do..." James leans in closer.
As James paces in front of his bedroom mirror, he begins to worry. The four of them are to a restaurant tonight, and he doesn't know what to wear. Why is he even so stressed about this? Its not like he's trying to impress anyone... In the plan he proposed to James, Remus said that they would all go out to eat and James would sit as far away as possible from Regulus, and instead sit near Sirius. He didn't even have to look at the younger Black brother if he didn't want to. It was the perfect plan, as there was no way Regulus was going to flirt with his brother's best friend, directly in front of his brother, right?
Wrong. When the four of them reached the table, Sirius sat first, pulling Remus next to him, who smiled apologetically at James. Shit. There were two seats left, meaning James had to sit next to Regulus. After all four of them were seated, Remus and Sirius were wrapped up in a conversation, but James was too busy looking anywhere but at the boy next to him to hear what it was about. Suddenly, a slender hand creeped cautiously onto his thigh, just resting there. James' heart practically stopped.
What the fuck did Regulus think he was doing?
He glared over at the boy next to him, gently pushing his hand away. The message didn't seem to be sent across clear enough though, as, since Sirius was looking away, Regulus took this as the perfect opportunity to pull James towards him, putting his lips right next to his ear. He doesn't say anything, he just hovers there, unmoving.
Before long, Sirius turns back around and James can see the lingering looks he and Remus give eachother. Those two need to get locked in a room together so they can talk and figure this whole thing out. They both want eachother, that much is clear. James' train of thought comes to a halt when the hand from before sneaks back onto his thigh, this time linking its fingers with his own hand, that's resting by his side.
He knows he shouldn't want this, he knows its a bad idea, but there's something so irresistible about wanting something that you can't have. James' heart begins to hammer in his chest, and he can only hope that Regulus can't hear it.
"You're special, did you know that James?" Regulus murmurs. James let's a quiet gasp slip past his lips, so quiet that only the boy sat next to him could hear. He was sat so, so close to him. Too close even. The steadying press of James' hand against Regulus' was nearly enough to calm his racing heart. Nearly. He tilts his head to the side slightly, scrunching his nose. "Special? How?"
Regulus replies cooly, without even a second of hesitation. "You're different. Call me selfish all you want, but I want you all to myself. Is that bad?" James laughs at that. "That's rather selfish of you Reggie..." If there's any reaction to the nickname, James doesn't see it.
Before dinner is even over, Regulus is pulling at James' hand, trying to get him to leave with him. Remus is eyeing the pair suspiciously, but Sirius is too busy gazing lovingly at Remus to pay attention to anything else. Remus sighs and nods at James, a silent approval to get up and leave quickly. That was all he needed to gently grab Regulus' wrist and tug him to his feet, dragging him outside.
"What's going on? Has something happened? Jamie? Is everything alright?" Regulus sounded concerned. James still ignored him, storming through the hallway of the restaurant to find somewhere to go. After a while, the only thing he could find was an empty closet, and he decided it would have to do.
As the closet door shuts behind them, smothering them in darkness, James listens to the heavy breathing filling the small space. Was it his or Regulus'? He had no idea. Maybe it was both. A hand reaches out and strokes his cheek, and he leans into the touch. It felt good, better than it should. He hums contentedly, and he feels a body shift towards him, its heat radiating within the cramped walls. James sucks in a deep breath, before a pair of lips are pressed hard against his own. "Shit," he breathes out slowly. Regulus had kissed him. Regulus Black. Had kissed him. Him.
He pulls Regulus closer, desperate to feel him again. Now that he's had a taste, he craves it. He has an insatiable desire for anything Regulus. He wants him, he needs him, he loves him. Oh, shit. He loves him. James Potter is in love with Regulus Black. No, surely not.
No, no no.
James needed air, he needed out of the stuffy dark closet he's trapped in with his best friends little brother, who'd he'd just kissed. He chooses to ignore Regulus' whine of annoyance when James pushes him off, the hands gripping at his shirt when he tries to leave. He just shoves him off, its not like its the first time he's done that.
