Remus was having the slowest, most boring day possible. It felt like all of his classes lasted hours and hours, even Care of Magical Creatures, which he usually loved. All he could think about was getting back to the common room and curling up in front of the fireplace to finish his book. What he really wanted was for Sirius to sit and read with him, but he knew that his boyfriend probably had plans to wreak havoc with James, as usual.
Finally, his teacher signaled for the end of the last class of the day, and everyone began packing up their bags and leaving for various areas of the castle. He swiftly packed up his bag, slinging it over his shoulder and making his way through the winding halls and shifting staircases of Hogwarts back to the Gryffindor common room.
After a walk that felt like forever, but realistically couldn’t have lasted more than 10 minutes, he made it to the portrait of the Fat Lady, whispering the password of “Pumpkin Pasty” before the portrait swung open and he climbed through the hole in the wall.
He scanned the room for a quiet, open seat, and saw the backs of two familiar heads in front of the fireplace, one a flame of red and the other a mess of black curls.
He smiled to himself and made his way over to Lily and James, sitting down in the armchair next to them by the fireplace.
“Hey Lily, hey Prongs,” he greeted them, letting out a sigh of relief as he sunk into the comfort of his favorite reading chair, feeling as if he was sitting on a cloud after such a long day of academics. Remus usually enjoyed his classes a lot, even being made fun of by Sirius and James for being so studious sometimes, but with the full moon being only a few days past him, he was still extra exhausted.
His two friends looked up at him, saying their hellos and offering their usual warm smiles. The three of them discussed the days classes and the assignments they were dreading having to do, as well as planning for the upcoming Hogsmeade weekend.
“Moony, you should really ask Sirius, like officially,” James chided, adjusting his forever-crooked glasses.
Remus sighed in response, not understanding the big deal his friends were making about him and Sirius and the upcoming Hogsmeade trip. The two of them had finally started dating just a few weeks ago, after both of them had finally been convinced by their friends to just admit their feelings to each other.
It had been years of their relentless pining after each other, only made worse by both of them hooking up with other people to make the other jealous and running to one of their friends to complain about it, Sirius to James and Remus to Lily. Eventually, James and Lily had had enough, planning to force them together. After the next Quidditch party, they made sure to set up a game of truth or dare and dared the two of them to kiss. This had resulted in an argument of both of them being oblivious and thinking the kiss didn’t matter to the other, but they had eventually worked it out and admitted how they truly felt about each other, resolving not to keep secrets from each other anymore.
Even though they’d been a public couple since, they still hadn’t been on an official date. Remus didn’t seem to think this was that important, but James and Lily had been persistent in telling him that Hogsmeade would be the perfect opportunity for their first date.
“Guys I honestly don’t think it matters that much,” Remus replied, exasperated. “Sirius probably isn’t even thinking about it like that!”
“Trust me mate, he is, I can tell,” James retorted, giving him a knowing look over the top of his glasses, reminding Remus of his mother with his ability to see right through his friends, no matter how hard they tried to hide their feelings from him.
“Fine, I’ll discuss it with him,” he sighed, giving into his friends yet again.
“Thanks Rem,” Lily smiled and leaned over, giving Remus a peck on the cheek despite his laughing and blushing face.
James’ usual warm smile had returned, and he laughed, and he nudged Remus’ shoulder. “Bloody ladies’ man.”
Remus snorted, his sarcastic demeanor coming back to him. “I think Pads would disagree with you on that.”
James laughed, then appeared to see something from over Remus’ shoulder and stood up, grabbing his girlfriend’s hand and pulling her with him. “Alright well good luck, we’ll see you later mate.”
Remus watched his friends as they hurriedly departed, exiting through the portrait hole, with a confused expression. What had they seen?
He looked over his shoulder and realized immediately why his friends had left. Sirius was leaning up against entryway to the dorm staircase wearing a very familiar brown sweater.
Remus got up and walked over to his boyfriend, smirking as he looked down at the beautiful boy, as Remus still had a few inches on him.
“Is that my sweater?” he asked, smoothing his hand over the fabric of the sweater that hung loosely off of Sirius’ arms.
“Yea,” Sirius returned his smirk. “Isn’t this the kind of thing couples do?”
“Yea, I guess it is,” he laughed breathily. “Does this mean I get to wear your leather jacket?”
“Maybe, I’m sure it would look bloody brilliant on you Moony,” Sirius winked at him.
“Hmm, I guess we’ll see then,” Remus reached forward and gently ran his hands through Sirius’ black hair, tucking a strand behind his ear to expose the piercing Remus had helped give him after Sirius had started truly rebelling against his parents in third year. He cleared his throat, bracing himself for the embarrassment he was sure to feel when Sirius shot him down and made fun of him for being too corny. “Maybe at Hogsmeade this weekend?”
Sirius gulped and looked up at him, his grey eyes going slightly wider as he spoke hesitantly. “Like…a date?”
“Yea like a date,” Remus shifted back and forth, feeling very nervous that he had just ruined his new relationship and pushed Sirius too far.
He was proved completely wrong when Sirius’ face broke out into the most beautiful smile Remus had ever seen.
“Yes Moony, I’ll go to Hogsmeade with you.”
Remus laughed with relief as he was pulled down into a soft kiss, and he knew that kissing Sirius Black, or seeing his smile and the mischievous glint in his eye as he laughed and hurriedly pulled him upstairs to their dorm room, would certainly never get old.
