Lily Evans
I love rain. Really. But it wasn't raining today, wich was fine. I also like the sun. I like sitting in the shadow and reading a book. But i forgot my book today. Wich was fine, because I was sitting at the Gryffindor table in the great hall, together with Remus, who wasn't feeling well, but still wont go to the hospital wing.
"Lily?", he askes, as he punctured his toast with his fork. Poor piece of toast. "Yes, Remus?" To be honest, I had assumed he would finally confess to me that he was a werewolf, which of course I had known for a long time. I wasn't stupid.
"Yesterday on the train I argued with the others..." Oh no. I suppressed a sigh and looked up. "What about? Then where did you go? Or did you continue to sit with them?", I asked. Remus was a very nice person, really. But when he argued with someone he could get quite... angry. "I sat with Snape and his other friends. I couldn't find you and they still had a seat left..." He ignored my question about what he had been arguing about with the others. “Were they nice to you?” I asked sharply. Severus ignored most people, and Charity, Aurora and Wilhelm were nice, or at least respectful. But Mulciber and Avery... "Yes, actually. Well, only Burbage and Wilkes talked to me, but they didn't ask why I was sitting with them. Later Crouch and Rosier came too, but left again after a few minutes", Remus told me.
It was September 2nd. McGonagall walked around giving everyone their schedule. This year was going to be tough as we wrote our OWLs.
I looked over my shoulder at the Slytherin table, but they weren't there yet. Or gone again. "Heyyy, Lilsssss!" I heard a familiar voice call. Mary sat down next to me. "Mary, where have you been? I was looking for you, I thought we were going to have breakfast together!" I scolded her. I was really worried when I woke up this morning and her bed was empty. I waited and asked around, but no one had seen her. I finally went to dinner with Remus and was just hoping she was already there. "Sorry..." she apologized and greeted Remus briefly with a smile. But I didn't let up. "So? Where have you been?", I asked again. She grinned mischievously. "I won't say~" she teased and laughed. "Mary, if you do anything illegal I have to report it, I'm a prefect!" I sounded like my mother, but that didn't matter. At least for now. Mary groaned in annoyance. "That's right, you two are prefects now..." she murmured and looked from me to Remus.
"Oh, that's why you fought with them!" I exclaimed. Whatever Mary had done was now forgotten. Remus nodded sadly. "Sirius wanted to hex the suitcases away from some first years, and I threatened to report it... James started arguing and Peter just watched and nodded. To be honest, I said a few bad insults..." Mary looked at him with her mouth open and patted his shoulder caringly. “Did they hex the suitcases away?” Remus shook his head. "I don't know. I left."
Now McGonagall had arrived and gave us our timetables. "Oh, look, double lesson DADA with the Slytherins right after breakfast! Marlene should like it, right?" joked Mary, to which we agreed with a laugh. "Then Herbology with Hufflepuff, after lunch twice Transfiguration with Ravenclaw and this evening Astronomy with everyone..." Remus continued. "Do you mind if I sit with you in Herbology and Transfiguration? Wilkes said yesterday that as long as I argued with Peter, Sirius and James, I can sit with them when we have lessons together," he asked. Mary nodded immediately. "Why not. Right, Lils?" I shook my head. "No problem. But... You could just talk to them, you know?" I said tentatively. Remus already opened his mouth when another voice spoke: "Nonsense. They should apologize first." Marlene.
"How long have you been listening to us?" Remus asked with raised eyebrows. Marlene gave him a broad smile. "Long enough," she said as she sat down. "But why didn't you come to us but to Snape's gang?" “Snapes Gang” made me laugh. Remus shrugged. "Well, I couldn't find you. And they had a free seat, so I asked if I could sit there. The ride was also quite pleasant, no one tried to hex anyone. Although Burbage threatened Mulciber because he said he doesn't like rabbits."
After breakfast, the four of us went to the DADA classroom. We weren't the first, Dorcas, Crouch and Rosier were already there. Marlene sat her down next to Dorcas, who was sitting behind the other two. I sat in the front row, Mary sat next to me. Remus took a seat behind us. After a few minutes "Snapes Gang" came on. At least Wilkes, Mulciber and Sev, because Aurora was in Ravenclaw and Charity was in Hufflepuff. Wilkes sat down next to Remus, who smiled gratefully at him. Then he turned back to talk to Mulciber and Sev, who had sat behind the two.
Everything was quiet for the next few hours. Potter, Black and Pettigrew ignored Remus, who was right to do so. At lunch everyone was mixed again, which meant that Remus, Mary, Marlene and I found ourselves at the Slytherin table between the "Slytherin Skittles" and "Snapes Gang". I've never sat at the Slytherin table before, and I have to admit that I always thought it was some kind of Death Eater meeting. I talked to Pandora and Severus, even though I didn't even know they were friends. So I decided to ask.
“How do you guys actually know each other?”
Sev looked at me in surprise. "Apart from the fact that we're in the same year? Well, we have Herbology together. She's Aurora's dormmate, and once she was at the Malfoys' the same week as me. We've also often discussed what we should get you , Christmas and birthday or something like that."
Black (Regulus) was currently talking to Remus, probably about Sirius.
Xenophilius spoke excitedly to Aurora and Charity.
Marlene was flirting with Dorcas.
Crouch and Rosier chatted with Mulciber and Mary, and I often heard a "I'm sorry," which was most likely directed at Mary from Mulciber, as he often said anti-Muggle things. But it seemed to be a respectful conversation.
Not much happened in the afternoon except for Potter asking (again) if I wanted to go out with him. An “Ask Remus” was answer enough. I spent most of my time doing homework with Remus and Mary. Marlene was with Dorcas, and I was no longer sure whether they were friends or a couple. DADA was pretty easy, but for Transfiguration we had to walk through half of Hogwarts until we found someone who already had the homework. Nothing happened at dinner either. We sat at the Slytherin table again, like at lunch, and talked. This time there were also a few older people there. The Black sisters, the Malfoy brothers (although Xeno was already here at lunch) and Molly and Athur, wich was really surprising. Molly and Athur were talking to Malfoy and Bellatrix about something Ministry-related, as all four were seniors and all had to spend a week somewhere job-related in the spring. Skeeter spoke to Tonks and Andromeda while Narcissa scanned the hall. I also looked around and spotted Alice and Frank, also two of my friends, talking to Pettigrew. Black and Potter were probably already in detention.
After dinner, we fifth graders headed straight to the Astronomy Tower, even though we still had a few hours to spare. Everyone looked for a place there. Sev sat down next to me and we started talking about homework. I had to correct something in DADA, but that was it.
Later the others came too. From what I heard, I was right and Potter and Black had been in detention because the two of them hexed away a suitcase. Remus cleared his throat and said, "I told you, but no one listens to me." Aurora, who was also a prefect, nodded. I had been quite surprised when I found out that she had become a prefect, but most Ravenclaws weren't the best for the job. I thought of Pandora, who was incredibly helpful but wouldn't have the heart to report things.
When we left the Astronomy Tower around midnight, we still had one more homework assignment to do and all I wanted to do was sleep.
