girls like me don’t cry

I'm hiding out so they don't see this part of me

Daphne rolled her eyes at the sounds of the giggles from the group of girls behind her. She had been hearing their words for the passing week and she had chosen to not believe them. The Hermione she knew Her Hermione wouldn’t hook up with girls for the sake of getting over her.

Girls like me don't cry

Girls like me pretend we don't cry

Girls like me don't cry

Girls like me pretend we don't cry

Daphne swallowed the bile in her throat at the sight of Hermione in a heated lip lock with some random 7th year. She forced her tears down in hopes that she could hold her breakdown back until she was in her dorm room alone. She made it into the girl’s loo not far from where she saw them and silenced the stall as she got sick all over the floor. She hated this more than she could explain.

She loved being with Hermione more than anything but there was no way out of her marriage with Theo. He knew it and she did as well. It wasn’t like he wanted to marry her either. The boy was as in love with Draco Malfoy as she was with Hermione Granger . She could finally say she understood what he went through when she saw him go through the same process she was going through now. The hiding feelings in public and breaking in private.

She missed Hermione’s comforting touches. Her soft words when she told her that everything would be okay. She wished there was some way she could shout to her that she was struggling with their separation as well. That Hermione wasn’t alone.

Ran right through all my options

Can't seem to keep my eyes both dry

Got tissues in my pocket

I'm sensitive

Daphne felt like a ticking time bomb waiting to explode. Every time she closed her eyes she saw Hermione and that 7th year pressed against each other. Kissing…touching…It made her sick.

She felt a single tear form in her eye and she wiped it quickly, hardening her face as she glared at her plate. Her skin felt hot and clammy. She felt overwhelmed and ill. She needed to get as far away from Hermione Granger before she blew up on her. She knew she had no right to but her emotions were all over the place. She was filled with anger and hurt. She felt humiliated even though nobody knew.

Her eyes watered as she glanced up and she saw her flirting with some random Ravenclaw. She swallowed her sobs as she stood up and made a run for it.

They say girl don't cry (don't cry)

Try to keep my head up high (up high)

Smile like it's alright

But all I wanna do is hide

Theo held her crying form in her arms as she sobbed into his chest. “ I know it hurts but this is the safest way for them both.” He said sadly. Daphne sobbed harder knowing he was hurting as well. “ Oh Daph…” He cried softly as he cried into her hair. She clung to him like if she let go of him she would fall apart. He felt like the only thing holding her together. He was the only person in her life who knew just how badly she was hurting and struggling.

The pain was suffocating. All she wanted was to be happy with the girl she loved. Was that too much to ask for? Didn’t she deserve that one thing? Didn’t Theo finally, after years of abuse from his father, deserve to be happy and in love with Draco? Didn’t Draco deserve that? Didn’t Hermione deserve to finally be happy? After years of torment and torture didn’t Hermione deserve to have her happy ending? Why was the universe hurting the four of them so badly? Why didn’t the universe care for them?

“ We’ll be okay Daphne. Just hold on Daph. We’ll make it through this. Just hold on a little while longer.” Theo whispered softly. Daphne’s cries didn’t soften nor did they stop; she cried for herself, Theo, Draco, and Hermione. She cried for all the time she would miss. All the time she did miss. All the time Theo would miss and did miss.

Girls like me don't cry

Girls like me pretend that we don't cry

Daphne looked in the mirror and plastered on a bright smile the next morning. If there was one thing she was good at it was pretending she was fine when she wasn’t. Girls like her were amazing at pretending they don’t cry.
