Chapter 10

-Hey Tony, do you have a large container where I can put the leftover food?-

-It depends on Capsicle, why do you need it? If you want to keep it in the fridge for longer, don't even bother, Thor will arrive shortly.-

Tony had not looked up from his tablet on which he was modifying plans for Black Widow's suit.

-No, she is going to see some sporting events at the school that we sponsor and the director sent me a message that if we had leftover food that we could give away, it would be very helpful.-

-Cap, if the director wants support, I can tell Jarvis to send them more money, let me tell Pepper-
- That's not it, Tony.-

Tony stopped what he was doing and turned to look at me. I took a deep breath and began to speak.

-When I was a kid we never had money- I paused to collect my thoughts, Tony was still staring at me. -I remember that I was always hungry, but I never said anything why my mother needed all that food to continue having the strength to go to work. I think I was about 10 years old and I remember that the school district I went organized a sports tournament, it was going to last all day and this was an excuse to distract everyone from what we were experiencing. I remember lying to my mom that I wasn't going to need food because they were going to give something out at the event. Tony I still remember the look of relief on my mom's face when she heard my lie, because they still hadn't paid her and all the money my mom was going to receive was to pay what was on loan to the man at the market who didn't want to borrow us anymore until we paid what was owed. I remember that that day my mother left very relaxed because I had guaranteed food. Bucky scolded me for telling that lie to my mom, but he also ended up doing the same thing.-

I paused so I could swallow the tears I felt in my eyes.

-Everything was going well, we were tied with the other school we were playing with, I remember that I couldn't concentrate because of the hunger I was feeling, I think it was because of the heat that I fainted. When I woke up the teachers started asking me a lot of questions and instead of answering them I started crying and I apologized for worrying them and I told them that I hadn't eaten for days and that I couldn't continue playing because I couldn't do anything else but think in food-

I wiped away the tears that escaped from my eyes without my permission.

- I remember the teachers' face of helplessness when they heard my answer and they began to ask all of us who else had not eaten for several days to which more than half responded that they had not eaten. I don't remember exactly where the man came from, if he was the father of one of the other children or if he was a sponsor of the event, but I remember that he went in the store that was in the area to buy sandwiches and soup for all of us who were there, after we ate no one continued playing so a tie was declared. As we were leaving, I approached the man to thank him, but he told me that I had nothing to thank him for and that no child should be hungry. I insisted that I wanted to do something in return for him and he only told me that when I could, I would help someone who needed it. That's why I want to bring food to the children, we're not going to eat it and it's going to be more useful to them than it is to us.-

I finished telling my story and we both stayed silent for a while.

-Cap, you can't take the leftovers from us, give me 30 minutes and the location of the place and I will send a food cart to the event location. It's more like you and I are going to go give things to those children too-
-Tony-
- No no no, come on Cap, get ready, we are going to go to a sporting event, let me tell Pepper to hire a chef who makes healthy food, because then they will say that Cap doesn't care about the future and we can't have that-
-Thanks Tony-

Tony smiled at me, knowing how to do it to me, and spontaneously gave me a hug.
- Not at all Cap, you know that's what friends are for-
