Girlbosses

No one would have thought of Stress as a Beater at first sight. Her kind and loving personality made for an interesting turn as soon as people found out about her Beaterness. She loved that, the realisation on their faces as they figured out that they stood across one of the best Beaters Hogwarts has ever had.

She had gotten a lot of scouts, the Holyhead Harpies being one of them. She was talented and she was aware of that, she worked hard for it.

Joining the Holyhead Harpies was her dream. The all women's team had a reputation for being one of the best teams in the UK, many of them making the national team as well. She took pride in being scouted by them, especially because she was a Muggleborn.

There was no other option for her than to join the Holyhead Harpies. Stress was in her sixth year now and it had been the only thing she had focussed on since she had her talk with the scout two years ago.

Telling her parents what had happened had been the hardest part, them of course being Muggles and not understanding the concept of Quidditch. But after they realised what had happened to their daughter, they were very proud of her and full of joy.

They had begun reading the Daily Prophet as a result, so that they could be up to date with everything happening in the wizarding world and most of all, Quidditch and the Holyhead Harpies.

The next time Stress came home they knew all about Quidditch and its rules and how the Holyhead Harpies had been performing. It was kind of them and Stress took after her parents.

Her previous Beater partner had graduated from Hogwarts last year and now Stress had to get a new partner. It was a shame honestly, she had been working with Kevin Bubbles for over four years now and she was sad to see him go.

But Skizz had reassured her that he had a very good secret weapon up his sleeve; his cousin who was now a second year. Stress was weary of it at first, but she trusted Skizz, the man was rarely wrong when it came to things like these.

And he was right of course. From the moment Stress saw Gem fly she knew that she was the one worthy of being her partner and not in an egotistical way. She knew that in order for the team to be in topshape, she had to have a partner that she mashed well with. Gem being that partner.

So when they were conversing amongst themselves in the changing room over who was to join the team, she immediately said Gem.

“She was incredible, I’ve rarely seen second years have that amount of control over their brooms. On top of that; she’s got a mean swing, we need that,” Stress stated and Skizz smiled proudly.

“Yeah, we all know that I have a small bit of bias, but I’m going for Gem as well,” the fifth year stated, “I’ve known her for a long time and know that she has not reached her full potential. I think that she would be the right fit for Stress.” Jimmy Dugan, the Team Captain, nodded in agreement.

“Mhm, I think Gem as well. Any objections?” Everyone nodded in agreement and the decision was made; Gem was to be their new Beater.

It was the right decision, she and Gem worked incredibly well together. They won the first and the second game of the season from Slytherin and Ravenclaw. The one against Gryffindor would be in a few weeks, it would be the toughest of the season as Gryffindor had also won against Ravenclaw and had yet to play Slytherin.

But it was nearing the exam period and most students were now covered from head to toe in ink or with their noses stuck in their books.

Stress had gotten invited to a study group Xisuma was setting up. She knew the Headboy quite well, her of course being a Beater and ending up in the Hospital wing more often than not.

It was a fun time hanging out with the self proclaimed Hermits and she found it really benefiting her in her studying, while also helping the younger students with things they did not understand. It was fun!

Besides, Gem and Cleo were also part of the Hermits, so it was nice that she already knew some people. She knew Ren too, of course, him being one of the Beaters of the Gryffindor team but now she got to know him just a bit better.

There were two other people that she met that stood out though; False and Pearl. They, together with her, Cleo and Gem, were the only females of the group and quickly bonded because of that fact. Whenever False, Pearl and Gem had a question, she and Cleo were the first people they went to.

They quickly gained a reputation as being the most badass of the Hermits, due to their incredible duelling skills and their quick wittedness. So much so, that team ZIT jokingly called their little group Gaslight, Gatekeep, Girlboss, which, looking back at it, was a name that actually suited them quite well.

Mainly because of that one time that she and Cleo managed to gaslight Doc into thinking that the wand movement of Expelliarmus was an L instead of an upside down L. The man had grown so confused as to why he had been doing it incorrectly all those years, while the spell was still working that he had not realised that the two girls were messing with him.

And that one time that Gem and Pearl gatekept all the astronomy stuff because they felt like it.

And that one time that the five were put in charge of redecorating their study classroom for maximum efficiency and bossed everyone around while doing so…

Well what could they say, they were just the perfect team and they were not going to stop the others from just being who they were meant to be;

Gaslighters, gatekeepers and girlbosses!
