JITS go ghost hunting

Introducing Skizz Esvee; the eldest child of the noble household of Esvee and Black. That is a lot of pressure, but Skizz was handling it well, having done so since the day he was born.

He was eleven years old when their mother died and had just started Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The scandal was all over the newspapers, the Daily Prophet even going so far to describe her sons as ‘mad in the making’.

The Daily Prophet ruined his reputation, no one wanted to be friends with the ‘Mad’ Blacks eldest son, who just so happened to be ‘mad in the making’. It even resulted in him being bullied by a few Ravenclaw’s and that his roommates were repulsed by him.

He had no one for his entire first year, not that he told Impulse that. No, as far as Impulse knew Skizz had made lots of friends and totally loved Hogwarts and Hufflepuff, the house he was sorted into. Luckily Cassiopeia never got to hear that, but he was sure that she would turn in her grave upon hearing.

But the second year took a welcome turn for Skizz. He finally got a friend; Misarther Joker (rather called Mister Joker as he thought of his first name as a joke), a second year Gryffindor. To Skizz he became just Jokes.

Them meeting was a total accident. Of course they knew that the other existed because they shared some classes, but they never really interacted much. That is until Skizz found Joker wandering through the corridors.

His first instinct was to leave the man be, interacting with his peers had never gone well for Skizz and if he did not get out in time he would, again, fall victim to the bullying. But that did not happen.

He heard Joker talk to someone as he sped by, then shouting and suddenly he fell down with a Joker on top of him.

“Oh hello there, didn’t mean for that to happen.” Joker apologised as he got off Skizz. “No worries.” Skizz answered and made way to get the heck out of there as fast as possible, only to find out he could not.

At first he thought that Joker had placed a sticking charm on him, but then he heard Joker yell at someone again. “Maria White, please let him go or I swear I’m going to find out what kind of ghost you are and have you exorcised.” That was not what Skizz expected to hear.

“What do you mean ‘exorcised’.” Skizz asked fearfully from the ground, to which Joker whispered back, “I’ll explain later.”

An icy cold spread through Skizz’s body as he began to feel pressure form around his neck. “Uhmmm dude, might want to hurry up because I swear to Merlin that someone is trying to choke me.” This startled Joker and he began waving a crucifix around, muttering something in Latin. After that, the crucifix burned one arm off and the pressure around Skizz’s neck vanished.

“Sorry ‘bout that, you can get up now.” Joker said and helped Skizz get up from the ground. “Is it gone?” Skizz asked, looking around quickly, but Joker shook his head.

“I’m afraid not. I still don’t know which type it is yet and a crucifix only paralyses them, a demon more so than others.” Skizz was baffled at what he heard. “That was a ghost?!” Joker nodded.

“An angry one at that. I’ve been trying to rinse Hogwarts from them as soon as I got here in my first year. But I don’t have any equipment to identify them, let alone exorcise them.” Joker answered sadly.

“You, what… I-.” Skizz was not able to form any words, but Joker picked up on what he was trying to say.

“I can see ghosts and not in the way most people see them, those are corporal ghosts. These aren’t. Most of them are kind, but simply did not have enough power to form a physical form. Then there are others who are… not so kind, let’s put it that way.”

My entire family can see them, but we like to keep it to ourselves. Sorry you got involved.” Joker apologised.

“No man, no worries. That’s kind of awesome, not gonna lie!”

From that moment onwards, Skizz had a friend and a passion; he was going to help Joker get rid of the vengeful spirits that targeted him through Hogwarts!

They managed to learn a lot the following two á three years, like what traits each ghost had and what was needed to figure out who they were. They also learned that there was a specific thing about each ghost, not counting their type and character. Some ghosts were angrier than others and tended to hide clues, which made their job a lot more difficult.

Enter Impulse, Tango and Zed.

Skizz had always known that his younger brother was a genius, the kid was able to make the most brilliant things from scratch. That’s why he turned to him to ask for some gadgets that could help them identify the type of ghost they were dealing with.

Skizz and Joker handed their research to the three younger rascals and were impressed with what had come out. The three of them had managed to make tools that only some ghosts could interact with, that being the clue’s, and based on that they could identify the ghosts.

Impulse and Tango had even expressed that they wanted to join them in hunting the ghosts, while Zed prefered to be safe in a room, but linked up to the comms so he could do some research.

Just for that Zed had transformed their classroom into a ghost hunters dream, equipped with sanity boards, activity boards and noise boards, so he could really get a grasp on what the rest was doing and feed them important information.

After a week of checking equipment and rehearsing everything, team JITS was finally ready to take on their first ghost as a group. Joker had told them about an angry male spirit, who went by the name of John Morris, that resided in one of the sixth floor corridors, a place where no student went.

Impulse walked in front, his parabolic microphone attached to some headphones and listened intently for ghostly sounds so they could really pinpoint where John Morris had set up camp.

“I think it’s around the corner guys, I’m getting sound from there.” He remarked and at the same time the ghost began whispering threats in the microphone. “He’s a talker!”

“Alright!!!” Skizz yelled excitedly as they began walking towards the spot Impulse had pointed out. He held up a thermometer and watched as it dropped. “Yes, it’s most certainly here guys. It’s 5 degrees Celsius.”

“What is freezing in celsius again?” Tango asked in American. “Zero degrees Celsius is freezing and anything below that. Celsius is much better than Fahrenheit for this.” Impulse responded (it’s true, idk how you Americans know when something is freezing, Celsius is much easier).

“Well, it’s still dropping, so we might get freezing temps.” Skizz rethorted.

“I’m getting a spike of activity here, did he throw something?” Zed crackled through the comms as a cup was thrown at Joker’s head.

“Yes, ouch. He had it out for me!” Joker yelled annoyed. “I’m putting up a camera, tripod included of course. Zed, can you check for ghost orbs?”

“Most certainly will!”

Skizz pointed his EMF-reader at the cup. “Only level three, we’ve got to have EMF 5 right?” Impulse nodded at him.

“Okay, everyone leave the room for a bit. I’m attempting spirit box.” Tango pulled out a little rectangular machine from his pocket and pulled the little antenna out.

“Are you here?”

“How old are you?”

“Are you french?” “No.”

The other three came running back at the startled scream Tango made as soon as he got a response.

“Zed! Why did you have to make his voice sound so creepy!” Tango yelled through the comms and got an evil cackle in return.

“I take it we have spirit box then gents.” Remarked Skizz as he began checking the temperatures again. “Ooh, and freezing temps!”

“Good job, that leaves us with an Onryo, a Mimic, the Twins and a Moroi. But I think we can cross off Onryo and Mimic because I’ve seen no ghost orbs at all.” Zed informed them.

“Can’t they be hiding clues?” Impulse asked him.

“Yes, but Onryo and Mimic are both forced orbs.” Zed retorted. “So it’s either a Moroi or the Twins.”

“WHEN THE MOON HITS YOUR EYE, IT’S A MOROIIIIIIII!” Skizz burst into song, making the other three crack up.

“Pfffft, what are the clues we are looking for Zed?” Tango asked, grinning at Skizz’s antics.

“EMF 5 for the Twins, ghost writing for a Moroi.”

“I’ll put the book down then.” And Tango placed the ghost writing book on the ground. “And now we wait.”

“Wait, Zed, don’t Moroi curse someone once someone hears them?” Joker asked Zed.

“Yes.”

“Can you check Impulse’s sanity?” Impulse looked at Joker concerned.

“Oh yeah, he’s significantly lower than you all are. He’s at 35%.”

“Ah shit,” Impulse sighed, “And here I was wondering why I felt dizzy.” Skizz immediately turned to his younger brother. “Dude, are you okay?”

“Yeah I am. But let’s wrap this up, it’s a Moroi,” Impulse leaned a bit against Skizz for support, “Joker, can you do your exorcise magic?”

It did not take long for Joker to remove John Morris from Hogwarts and JITS succeeded at their first gig.

Skizz was happy, he had friends now.
