Reverberations and Reprecutions
Albus Too-Many-Names Dumbledore was seething behind his Occlumancy bolstered mask of grandfatherly kindness. His orders were being ignored by the Aurors, even those he had co-opted into his vigilante group, who had taken oaths to obey him.
Indeed, this muggle dressed assassin dared and strolled into the Ministry of Magic as if he was untouchable, and from the reaction of most of the DMLE, he seemingly was.
When one well known Auror fellow-traveler of the Dark Lord had attempted to arrest him, he had been put down with both kneecaps broken and both elbows shattered, in a matter of seconds. This upstart who had the temerity to do this was neither mussed nor breathing hard.
No one else made even a token effort at arresting him! Even with the marvels of magical healing, they liked their bones and joints intact, thank you very much. Even when repaired, such damage tended to cause recurring pains for the rest of a Wizard or Witch's life.
It was at this point that Saul Croaker, the Head Unspeakable, had deigned to appear and inform Albus that "his writ did not run", with respect to 'the Agent', and he had best calm down and join the meeting being organized inside the Unspeakables' sanctum.
Gringotts certified copies of a number of documents, which themselves tested valid as Royal Warrants and Writs, lay on Croaker's desk, before a group of chairs in the temporarily enlarged office, to handle the number of attendees.
The Ministry's own Law-Wizards had to conduct an impromptu class on the legal standing of their very society. No one cared that Albie had himself a pretty medal, or was the acclaimed so-and-so of such-and-such. It would not matter if he were the Minister, either. This caused a wince from the actual Minister.
The forensic teams had brought the bodies of Pettigrew and Voldemort into the Unspeakable labs and they were unable to determine exactly how they were killed.
Agent Illya Kuryakin smiled and said nothing. His "Wizard Special" pistol rounds used slugs transfigured into cadmium jacketed lead, which reverted shortly after the round were fired, triggered by runes inscribed inside the pistol barrel which they passed.
Upon reversion, the slugs turned back into 'dry ice' which sublimed into … well nothing detectable by magic.
Even if they could establish that a gun was the source of most of the wounds, all of the deaths caused, direct or indirect, were covered by the two Royal Death Warrants.
The Royal Writ suspending any laws to the contrary, no matter when or how passed, was an additional trump of any ground to take any actions against Wizard Kuryakin.
Illya sat at his ease, while the ongoing arguments and debates swirled about him. He felt no need to get involved, but let everyone with a strongly held opinion rant and rave.
The Wizengamot had suddenly developed a grave dearth of living members of the Dark faction, so little was likely to develop from that direction. Most of the empty seats had no Heir, or one underage, and so were in suspension.
When the final fallout seemed to have fallen out, Illya requested the Headmaster to remain for a short meeting with himself and Croaker.
Once they were in private, Illya passed another document to the Unspeakable, and asked him to explain it to the Headbastard. In small enough words that no misunderstanding could occur.
The Unspeakable was shocked to the point that he was (ironically) speechless.
Eventually he explained that he held a Royal Death Warrant on Dumbledore, with conditional clauses added. First, the decision to execute the warrant, so to speak, and if so when, was vested in Captain Kuryakin alone. Further, there was no deadline or time limit on the warrant.
After reclaiming the warrant to terminate the Headmaster, with extreme prejudice, Illya explained that the file of complaints against him with the Royal Wizard was almost as thick as Hogwarts, A History, and Her Majesty was fed up.
His frequent failure to punish the guilty bullies in his school was perceived as punishment of the innocent, and was no longer tolerated. He was advised to throw his pending tantrum in private, far from witnesses of any kind, or the warrant might be carried out immediately.
The Royal Wizard was assigned to monitor future complaints addressed to the Queen, and if too many justified ones occurred, no Order of Merlin would protect the truly guilty party. A simple notification to the Agent would trigger, so to speak, the already authorized response.
The original of that Warrant was on file at Gringotts, where it was out of the Headmaster's reach, either through cat's-paws or by direct action himself.
Standing and wishing Croaker a polite good evening, with no such wishes for Dumbledore, Illya triggered a portkey created by the Royal Wizard and portkeyed him out through multiple layers of Transportation Wards of all kinds, unharmed.
Before returning to the more mundane affairs which an Agent of U.N.C.L.E. normally dealt with, Illya portkeyed to the gates of Potter Manor and announced himself, where he was welcomed into a very happy party of Potters, Longbottoms, and a couple of Marauders thrown in.
After a small feast prepared by happy House Elves, Illya left devices shielded from the effects of magic, which could alert him at any time, anywhere in the world he might happen to be, and provide a location beacon for him to boot.
Illya noted that he had not erased the Dumbledore problem, yet, but if he was still Headmaster, or even if not, there were considerations. When the children approached magical school age, the US housed a number of top tier schools which had not undergone the long process of dumbing down that Hogwarts had suffered, lest the Purebloods start flunking out.
Or they might want to found their own school, modeled on Manchester Magical Academy, which accepted magically raised children as well as first generations and half-bloods. They certainly could afford to.
But there were years ahead to enjoy their children growing up and make whatever decisions were needed when the time approached.
