Mary's House

“How did you find where I live?” Mary asks, answering the door to the two teenagers standing outside. You think living in a gated community would stop your classmates from finding where you live. Anyways, Mary only knew one of them, James, a kid in one of her classes. James was dressed in a black hoodie and black sweatpants. While the girl was dressed in a white crop top and wide leg pants.

“Not important. But are you free Friday nights?” James questions. Mary could see the girl standing next to him facepalm.

“Yes I’m busy doing…..stuff,” Mary responds, blankly blinking. What was she supposed to respond with?

“Like what? Crying over some stupid song or watching those stupid queer coded kids cartoons!” yells Evan from behind her. Mary turns her head to glare at him.

“Maybe I am free,” Mary responds. It was better than spending another night watching She-Ra with Evan.

“Who’s that?” the girl asks.

“That’s my older brother,” Mary shrugs, hiding all of the panic inside of her. Maybe one of the kids knew Evan. They were the same age and the girl looked older than her.

“Who are you talking to Mary?” Evan asks, walking over to the door. Mary blocked him with the door though.

“Evan?!” the girl screams, Mary covers her ears as she did. Mary knew her brother wasn’t the nicest, but she never expected that reaction.

“Marlene?” Evan questions, raising an eyebrow. Well now she knew the girl’s name. Marlene. She looked like a Marlene. Wait a minute-

“Wait, you guys know each other?” Mary asks, looking from her brother to the girl. Evan knowing someone was never a good thing and Mary means like never.

“Yeah. we had to do a project for math,” Evan explains, shrugging his shoulders. His face was still blank of emotion.

“Yeah, that was the only project in math that I got a 100 in,” Marlene replies, laughing. She seemed nice and better now that Mary knew her name. Maybe she wasn’t as annoying as James. Mary doubted that, but whatever.

“Cause you are a fucking idiot,” Evan mutters to Mary. Mary takes a minute, trying to hold in her laughter. “Anyways, why do you need my sister Friday nights?” Evan asks, glaring at the kids. Mary rolls her eyes.

“Okay well we are starting a band!” Marlene shouts, throwing her hands in the air. This time it was Mary staring blankly at her. What was this girl on? Mary didn’t talk, what makes them think she can do music things like singing and whatever. Mary could sing and play guitar and violin, but no way was she playing in front of anyone.

“Are you drunk?” was all Mary could think of in a response. Oh lord.

“We need a guitarist,” James smirks at Mary. Mary just keeps her blank stare on him.

“Umm,” Mary mutters, her words slowly fading away.

“You don’t even need to talk,” James responds, still keeping the same smirk. “Plus if you don’t like it you only have to be there for two weeks.”

“Ummmmmmm, okay?” Mary replies, awkwardly smiling at the two teenagers. What did she get herself into?
