Chapter 4
The first-years where slowly getting to know all the classes and their ways around Hogwarts.
Pandora and Stella still struggled to find their care for magical creatures class and almost got lost in the forbidden forrest.
Luckily they met a Hufflepuff who showed them the way and they arrived just on time for the class to start.
Pandora had told Stella about all kinds of magical creatures, so she was pretty exited to learn about them and occasionally even see them.
Her experience with this subject was quite limited, she knew Creature their house elve, but he had always seemed very human-like even though the Black family didn’t treat him like it.
Stella didn’t like house elves, maybe because Creature seemed mean or because of the chopped of house elv heads hanging in Grimmauld place.
She also knew of fairy’s, she had caught one one’s, but it had annoyed her mother so she killed it.
When they rushed into the classroom professor Kettleburn gave them an irritated look.
And started handing out little textbooks.
“These books have information on different kinds of magical creatures and how dangerous they are I want you to figure out what criteria might have been used to make these clear distinctions in danger of each creature and write an essay about that.
You should hand it in at the end of the lesson so we can start talking about the first animal next lesson.
It’s gonna be the ramora a lovely kind of fish, so write your essays now so we can get to the good part.” He said handing out parchment.
Stella didn’t think writing was the bad part. She had always enjoyed writing.
Written words had a clarity to them. The pen was sometimes a better way to express herself than her useless mouth.
And the topic interested her, she found out all about the system the more x’s a creature had, the more dangerous it was.
She read threw different animals and their classification, what was the same for werewolf’s and dragons what was their differences?
Both where super dangerous, literal monsters for all she knew.
She started writing everything down as she found out more and more. She finished just in time, when the lesson was over.
Maybe the first impression she had made wasn’t to good, but this paper was her second chance, she thought while handing it in.
When the professor noticed her name on the paper he looked up.
“A Black huh” as he looked her up and down there was judgement in his eyes, but he didn’t say anything else.
Stella left the classroom with a weird feeling in her gut and barely listened to Pandora rambling about how she couldn’t find nargels in the book.
Walking through the grounds they saw James and Sirius throwing around a backpack, while a little boy was chasing after it.
Stella grabbed her wand “Wingardium Levoisa” she got ahold of the backpack with the spell and let it levitate right into the boys hands. Only then she realized the boy was Petigrew.
“Wow you’re getting good at that spell!” Sirius exclaimed.
Stella ignored that “What do you think you’re doing, that’s not proper behavior.”
“Oh Peter doesn’t mind, right mate you know we’re just joking around.” James immediately chimed in.
Petigrew was so out of breath he could not answer so he just held up his thumb.
It didn’t convince Stella but she didn’t say anything else.
“We just had our first flying lesson and James is a fantastic flyer. He’s bound to make the team next Year” Sirius was smiling enthusiastically.
But by far not as much as James, who almost seemed to be glowing.
“That’s nice flying is quite fun, isn’t it?”
Sirius eyes widened in surprise “You liked it?”
“Yes, but don’t tell mother”
“Oh really? She would have been the first I would have talked to about this matter, well now I will have to make do with James over here.” Sirius answered sarcastically.
“What is it with your mother?” Stella looked up she hadn’t noticed Remus standing there, despite his heights.
He had been standing there quietly so far a book in hand. His question didn’t seem like the usual attack, but rather like an interest in them.
Before Stella could give him a rude answer Sirius quickly said “She’s just strict that’s all.”
“They where strict back home as well guess it isn’t a money thing.”
His answer was underlined perfectly by his hand me down bag and his torn cheap rope.
“Our parents aren’t bad they just want whats best for us.” Stella said to avoid rumors that would harm the Black family name.
Remus looked her up and down “Well you clearly got it” he didn’t say it in a mean way rather in a thoughtful one.
Stella almost felt sorry for him, he could have used some of the black family fortune for decent clothing. It didn’t really feel fair, that they had so much while he had so little.
She pushed that thought away and just gave Remus a simple smile, but it felt more like a peace offer which he took by smiling back.
Stella and Pandora said goodbye and left Sirius and James in a playful fight, with Remus judging them and Peter looking slightly frightened.
“Why do they have fun doing that?” Pandora asked on their way back. “If I only knew”
The Gryffindor redhead, who was walking threw the same hall stopped abruptly “Are you talking about your brother and Potter?” she asked.
“Yeah” Stella answered a little confused.
“They are such pricks aren’t they?”
“Why?”
“They bullied my friend”
“I’m sure they’re just joking around”
“Well they should get better humor then, calling him greasy haired or long nosed isn’t as funny as they think”
“Well is he greasy haired and long nosed?”
“That’s not the point” Lily said frustrated “I thought you where supposed to be smart.” Lily seemed to realize what she just said “I’m sorry I didn’t mean to get mad at you. It’s not your fault you’re brother behaves like that. My sister can be mean to, doesn’t make them bad people I guess”
“It’s okay, you got a sister? Does she go here or is she younger?”
“Oh no she didn’t get a letter”
“Is she a Squip?”
“You mean a wich without magic? No she is a normal muggle” Lily explained.
A realization dawned on Stella. Lily was a Mudblood.
“Goodbye then” Lily had to go in the other direction now.
Stella was to stunned to answer so Pandora did it for her.
“So she’s a Mudblood” “Muggle born” Pandora corrected “Yeah Muggle born isn’t that weird, she seems so nice and normal”
“Why wouldn’t she?” Pandora asked with confusion in her eyes.
Stella didn’t know. Maybe Lily was a good one, but she couldn’t imagine that she was a regular mudblood. Why would her parents have been so cautious about their kind otherwise?
On the other hand it seemed as if their parents hadn’t been right about everything before.
Stella didn’t know what she should think now.
Owls mostly arrived in the morning, bringing newspapers and letters. There was one owl flying in at dinner time. Stella recognized it in an instant. It was the Black family owl.
It flew past the Gryffindor table dropping a letter right into Stella’s lap.
All the eyes of the other Ravenclaws where on her, while she quickly opened the envelope.
Dear Stella E. Black,
There have been arrangements made for a meeting after next week.
Please be in the third room in the dungeons at 4 pm.
Orion & Walburga Black
“What does it say?” Gilderoy asked.
“Just that I have a meeting”
“A meeting with whom ?” Katie an older Ravenclaw asked
“I don’t know”
Everyone looked disappointed and went back to their usual chatter.
