CHAPTER 3
Third Person POV:
The sun is blaring when everyone gets off the train pulling their heavy trunks behind them, James and Evan glare after Barty and Regulus as Barty carries both of their trunks, James mutters “why can't it be me and him.”
Evan stares at the ground.
“Regulus knew I liked Barty… then why would he date him? Was it just to get back at me? What did I do wrong… I really like Barty but he obviously doesn't like me back if he's dating our best friend, you know at this point I’m not even mad at them, I just feel a little hurt that they would do that to me you know, yes of course I’m jealous who wouldn't be, Barty is amazing and I’m jealous to see him so happy with Regulus, like it hurts but I’m not mad at them… what I don't understand is why Regulus went off and dated him when he knew that I like Barty.. Like did I do something wrong? If so, what did I do?”
Evan rants about Barty and Regulus to Remus as they walk up to the castle little did, they know that a little further up from everyone were Regulus and Barty having a remarkably similar talk “Regulus…? Evan is hanging out with Lupin. I do not like that; Regulus makes it stop” Barty whines at Regulus. Regulus doesn't answer, he's staring at James who is glaring at Barty, James notices Regulus staring at him.
Regulus blushes and turns to face Barty, Barty sees what James is doing and he abruptly kisses Regulus in front of everyone this catches Regulus by surprise, Barty pulls back slightly “play along” he whispers to Regulus.
Barty leans in and kisses Regulus again, this time Regulus kisses him back he does this while staring James in the eyes. Out of the corner of his eye Barty sees Evan staring at him, Evan looks heartbroken.
Barty’s arms wrap around Regulus pulling him closer, Regulus pulls away, smirks at James, grabs Barty’s hand and walks away.
James’ face falls “oh…….” he feels heartbroken of course he does not show this, but Regulus can tell that James is upset he's confused at why James is still smiling after Regulus and Barty hurt him, James smiles at Barty.
Evan stares at the ground obviously hurt by Barty’s and Regulus’ sudden kiss, “I- oh-” utters Evan, Remus sees how much this hurts him and instantly pulls Evan into a hug comforting him “it’s okay Evan, they're probably just doing this to make you jealous….” Remus whispers, Evan sinks into his touch, after a while Evan pulls back “c’mon we need to get up to the school.
Sirius is death staring Evan as Remus puts his arm around Evans shoulders and whispering things in his ear comforting him, Evan sees Sirius staring at him and he whispers “I’m sorry, I think your boyfriend is death staring me” to Remus, Remus blushes and turns away from Evan, this makes Sirius mad because he thinks that Remus is blushing because of Evan.
Sirius’ face flushes with anger, Remus turns back to Evan, he smiles and says something that Sirius can't hear, this makes Sirius even angrier because Sirius is so goddamn obvious he thinks that Remus and Evan are flirting when really Evan is teasing Remus for fancying Sirius and because Sirius is as oblivious as a dog oh wait… he is a dog… I guess the Animagus fits well then, he's so obvious that he can't see James is heartbroken because of his brother kissing another guy, but no, Sirius is so obvious that he can't see that Remus is just comforting Evan because Barty kissed Regulus, anyways Sirius is so obvious that he doesn't even know why he feels jealous about Remus and Evan being so close
Remus runs a hand through Evan’s hair, Evan slaps Remus’ hand away “not the hair!” Remus just laughed and ruffled his hair again Evan slapped his hand away once more.
Sirius sees this and starts ranting to James about how jealous that Evan and Remus are so close, “I really like him like a lot Remus I mean not Evan, well of course Rosier is all right, but no Remus is just simply better anyways, ugh- James why is he hanging out with Rosier? I mean I’m so much better than him, James make it stop, I want Remus, make Remus stop hanging out with Rosier, ugh James! he’s so close to Remus like Evan doesn't need to be that close to him and help James make him stop it now, I don't like Evan so close to Remus, it make me feel like I don't know mad I guess what’s is feeling”, James laughs “you’re jealous because you fancy Remus, Sirius that’s all”
“Oh my god James stop!! No! absolutely not! I do not fancy Remus at all…. I mean he is pretty but no, mother would not be too happy if I date a guy, but i mean it's not like my mother doesn't already hate my guts'' Sirius responded.
“Wait... what do you mean your mother hates you?” James looked confused.
“uh, nothing, don't worry James… hey don’t you think this hill gets steeper every year? I swear it was not this steep last year” Sirius quickly changes the subject; he half expected James to keep pressing him on it and was surprised when James dropped it completely.
“c’mon Sirius we are nearly up the hill, hurry up” James called to Sirius “yeah, yeah I’m hurrying calm down I’m going as fast as I can” he says back to James, ”oh I forget that you only have tiny legs, how tall are you again… 4 foot?” James laughs and keeps walking as a now angry Sirius follows closely behind “I am 5 '2 so shut up” Sirius Huffs.
Slowly they trudge up to the castle, Barty, and Regulus already up the top of the hill waiting for everyone to get up there so they could walk into the great hall together “OI hurry up you lot” Barty yells down to them. He notices James jittering, he looks concerned but does not say anything on it, “is Potter alright? he looks really jittery” he whispers to Regulus, Regulus notices this too “I don’t know…. Keep an eye on him for me, will you Barty?” He says back now looking at James with concerned eyes as James and Sirius walk up the hill, Evan and Remus trailing not too far behind them while Peter, Dorcas and Pandora are only halfway up the hill talking as they walk.
“Yeah, I’ll keep an eye on him don't worry Reggie” he looks down the hill looking at James walk up, James looks deep in thought about something.
Sirius catches up to James “you alright mate?” he says.
James flinches “uh- yeah I’m fine, c’mon we're nearly there” he tries to change the subject, “oh- alright” Sirius mutters, they walk in silence for the rest of the way up the hill. James catches Regulus’ eyes and he quickly plasters a smile on his face, a smile that could fool anyone, he looks charming but not the James that Regulus had met a few mere hours ago. When James and Sirius get up the top of the hill Regulus looks at James confused but doesn’t say anything.
They all sit in silence as they wait for Pandora, Peter, and Dorcas to get up the hill so they can walk in the great hall together. Regulus notices James keeps running
his hands through his hair and cracking his knuckles, Regulus sees this and slightly shuffles closer to James, Regulus grabs his hand, lacing their fingers together and putting them down by his side so Sirius wouldn’t see his baby brother who is in a *fake* relationship and his best friend sitting next to each other holding hands.
“Are you alright James, you keep fidgeting” Regulus whispers to his best friends brother, Regulus squeezes James’ hand softly, James wants to pull his hand away, he wants to move away from Regulus… but he can't bring himself to move so instead he turns to Regulus, flashes him one of his very believable smiles and says “yeah… I’m fine, don’t worry about me,” Regulus doesn't like this answer too much “James I know you're not fine” Regulus gives him a firm look “tell me the truth Jamie.”
James pulls his hand away from Regulus and gets up “don't call me that. Don't you have a boyfriend to worry about, just leave me alone Back, it's not your Business, there's nothing wrong with me!” James lashes out unexpectedly, he gets up and storms towards the great hall.
“What did you do, Regulus? Why is James acting like that?” Sirius asked, Regulus looked at the ground then back up at Sirius “I have no idea Sirius, he lashed out at me for no reason” Regulus replied with a cold tone.
Sirius huffs and turns away from his younger brother “whatever” he turns and walks in the direction of the great hall.
Pandora, Dorcas, and Peter are almost at the top of the hill, you can hear them talking about crystals or ‘special rocks’ as Regulus likes to call them.
“Where is everyone?” Pandora asked when the trio met the rest of the group on the hill, “Potter and my brother are already in the hall” Regulus answered coldly
“Okay… we should probably head up to the hall as well before the feast starts” Dorcas said “i'm hungry, c’mon”.
“Remus.. You alright?” Peter asked him “oh- uh- yeah i'm fine pete”.
They all made their way into the great hall, it was already full of people talking and laughing with one another.
