The Letter

Hogwarts

A school for wizards and witches
My parents met at Hogwarts
And now I seem to exist in this world
It’s kind of funny how one thing leads to another
Well this is my life apparently

--

“Sweetie! The letter arrived!”

She ran with a skip in her step ecstatic to show me the letter. Hopefully I got accepted it would be so cool to have a castle for a school. I kind of feel sorry for the muggles they just get boring bland buildings.

That is if I even get in.

“Mum open it open it” I needed to know if I got accepted I need to.

“Ok ok, sweetie I’m getting there” The letter was slowly opened the suspense seeping in. Come on why is time slowing down! My mother read it and a large grin spread across her face.

“I got in?”

“You got in!”

I was enveloped into a hug. I got in. I actually got in. I think mom was more excited than I was.

--

All my stuff was now packed, the last few days was absolute torture. Waiting for this moment felt like an eternity. We were going to go to Daigon alley to buy the resources I need. My chest felt like it was going to burst at any moment.

“Is this really happening...”

“It is.”

Startled I look up and see my father standing in the doorway.

“I’m proud of you kiddo”

“Thank you”

Agh! At this rate I’m going to explode but then my father continued to talk.

“This is a rare opportunity as lots of people get stuck on the waiting list. I’ll be honest with you I was originally on the waiting list but a girl by the name of Myrtle I believe, ended up dying so I got in. It was unfortunate, I felt guilty for going to the school in her place. So, I’m proud of you for getting in with no deaths necessary”

“Are you sure you didn’t kill her dad?”

A soft chuckle escaped his lips.

“C’mon kiddo it’s time to go.”

Finally. Butterflies fluttered in my stomach. Somebody pinch me I must be dreaming. I couldn’t stand still. I grabbed the green powder and stepped into the fireplace.

“Daigon Alley!”

A green flame engulfed me and I stepped out once again when the fire had cleared. The alleyway was bustling with fellow witches and wizards. I could see a store that had the newest broom. I forgot what it was called, it was probably hella expensive so I’m not even going to bother looking. My father then stepped out with my mother following shortly after.

Mom linked her arm with me and walked without saying a word. I was dragged along. Our first stop was to get my wand. I can finally get my very own wand! My parents never let me get a wand beforehand because of the stupid magic laws and they didn’t particularly trust me. Magic should be used to better our society, not just the wizarding world. Imagine the looks on the muggles faces if they saw that magic was real. We could host performances to bedazzle them! We have potions and spells. Medicine would drastically improve without a ridiculous cost. A simple flick of the wrist and poof broken bone fixed! Cancer? Cured!

Ding ding.

The bell ringing felt magical despite the fact I could easily go to a store in the muggle city and hear it, it just felt different here.

“Welcome welcome to Ollivanders. Oh? A new face, a new wand.”

The man at the counter beamed. He must be the owner of the store.

“Hello, um, how does this work again?”

I remember my mom telling me many times before that you don’t choose the wand the wand chooses you. My mom gently squeezed my arm and let go.

“I’ll be back, I’m going to get you some of the books you need. Have fun~”

And she’s running off.

Great.
