Chapter 1
“No Padfoot! Stop.” Thalia tried to warn Sirius, but it was too late. He had turned the knob on the time turner multiple times, too many to count, and the group had watched time change around them. They had been in Hogsmeade when they saw the time turner laying on the ground, but by now, it was too late to return. The thing is, Black had brought them to the future, not the past.
“For Fucks sake Padfoot, how thick are you. We’re in the future, and somehow in BLOODY CHICAGO.” Thalia yelled as smacked Padfoot in the back of the head. Thalia had recognised some part of chicago since she had been there for the summer holidays. The Marauders had landed in the middle of the night, in a giant dining hall. There was a great big tree in the centre, and the roof was a big dome. No-one was in the hall, so the marauders had to use their wands to get out.
Thalia used Lumos for light and they used this to get around the flower and wheat fields. They broke into the labs and Remus went looking for books on where they were, while Sirius, James, and Thalia found different vials full of different serums. One of them was labeled ‘Peace serum’ and Thalia shuddered while the others looked around.
They made their way to spare dorms and found extra clothes to put on. Remus had looked through one of the history books he found, and apparently a war had taken place. This caused the society to split into 5 different ‘factions’. They were, at the moment, in Amity, the peace faction. There was also abnegation, the selfless, dauntless, the brave (Sirius, James, and Thalia liked the sound of that), Candor, the honest, and Erudite, the smart.
All 16 year olds would have to choose their faction and go through different trials to survive initiation. They would also have to have ‘aptitude tests’ to examine which is their best fit. This was not going to be fun.
It was the day of the aptitude test, and no-one had suspected the Marauders. They had used certain spells for their appearance. Everyone had suggested that Remus transfer to Erudite, while the others transfer to Dauntless, but Remus suggested Abnegation, for it would be easier for someone to find out he’s a werewolf at Erudite.
The four all had to go at the same time and nodded to each other before entering their rooms. Thalia entered to find a woman, around 30 with long, stringy, black hair, and an eagle tattoo in between her shoulder blades. Thalia loved the look of it, and suspected she was dauntless.
“Nice Tattoo.” She told the lady, and the lady turned to face her. Her lips curved into a small smile, but her face remained blank.
“Thanks. Names Tori and I’ll be supervising for your aptitude test. Just sit in the chair and drink this.” She handed Thalia the drink and Thalia looked at Tori sceptically. She had many people try to kill her, so Thalia did a quick scan of the concoction using her ability to manipulate water. She shook it slightly, but soon after drank the serum. Her eyelids felt heavy, and she let herself be controlled by the serum.
----------------------
Thalia opened her eyes to the aptitude test room, except everything was gone and there were 2 platters in front of her. One held a gun, the other held cheese. A voice came from the distance.
Choose. The voice echoed off the walls.
“But why?” Thalia returned and the voice asked again, adding more aggressiveness to the word.
Choose. Thalia rolled her eyes, and stayed put. The voice huffed and answered her gesture. Too bad.
A black dog appeared in front of Thalia and Thalia tilted her head to the side.
“Padfoot?” The dog growled, answering her question and Thalia chose this period of time to change into Vixen, her fox form. The dog in front of her barked and excitedly waddled towards Thalia. As the dog stopped in front of Thalia, a 7 year old Thalia appeared a couple metres behind the dog.
“Doggy!” As the girl screamed, the dog turned and growled viciously at her. The girl whimpered and ran the other way. Thalia changed back to her human form and ran after the dog, jumping and landing on its back. The scene changed and Thalia was holding onto a pole next to a man that was reading a newspaper.
“Do you know this man?” He questioned pointing to the front page of a newspaper. It was Gabe. Thalia decided to be honest with the man.
“Yes-.” She replied, he breathed a breath of relief and talked on.
“Good. You can save my life.”
“-He’s dead.” Thalia finished, and the man's face held rage.
“How dare you lie to me, you can save me! He’s not dead.”
“Well, he’s dead to me.”
-------------------------------
Thalia woke up from the dream, and she was shaking. Tori looked just as stunned as Thalia and she gave no time for Thalia to calm down before asking questions.
“How did you do that?” Tori asked, looking spooked. Thalia tilted her head in a confused gesture. “Do that fox thingy. No-one's ever done that?” Tori continued and Thalia widened her eyes.
“Well, I always loved foxes, and I know that animals won’t attack others unless they make sure that they’re predators, so I used my willpower to turn into a fox. Tori still looked spooked. She entered something in the computer and grabbed Thalia's arm while pulling her off the chair.
“You need to get out of here.” Thalia wouldn't leave without an explanation.
“Why. What’s wrong.”
“Your results were inconclusive. You received Amity, Dauntless, Erudite, and Abnegation. You would’ve received Candor, but you told the man that the newspaper guy was dead. That’s 3 too many. Don’t tell anyone about this, only we can know about it. I manually entered Dauntless, because that was the largest part. Now, go! Tell your family you got sick.” She pushed Thalia out the door, and she was met with the rest of the marauders.
“Let me guess, you got sick.” Thalia smirked and they all started laughing. Maybe this wouldn't be so bad.
Making their way to the choosing ceremony, they were talking about their aptitude tests. They had cast a muffliato spell, so they could talk and no-one heard their conversation. Remus had received Erudite, Abnegation, and Amity. Sirius had received Dauntless and Amity. James had Dauntless, Amity, and somehow, Candor. While Thalia received Dauntless, Abnegation, Erudite, and Amity.
When she announced this to the group, they stopped and gaped at her. She shyly tucked a piece of hair behind her ear. She hated attention, and some of the Amity people stopped behind them. Thalia pushed them so they’d keep moving and she made the gesture of zippin her mouth shut when she took the spell off. The boys nodded, still slightly surprised but they kept moving.
They made it to the ceremony, and the room they were in could beat the size of the great hall. Thalia looked around in awe as they walked towards the Amity section. Before sitting down, they all hugged Remus and sat down feeling down. The Marauders were going to separate. A tear streaked down Thalia face, but she quickly wiped it away before anyone could see, James saw, but said nothing.
Thalia POV
The 16 year olds lined up in Alphabetical order and the Marauders were all separated from each other. Sirius was first, using the knife to cut his hand, and let the blood drop on the coals. Sirius winced a little, but then again, almost everyone did. I was next, cutting my hand and dropping the blood to the coals. I had been through abuse, so this was easy.
Remus went and he looked towards Sirius and I, and we sadly smiled back. He cut his hand and dropped the blood in the stones. The Abnegation clapped slightly, while the Dauntless had cheered manicaly for Sirius and I. James joined us at Dauntless and high fived Sirius and I. Soon after, an Abnegation girl, Beatrice, transferred to Dauntless and I was very surprised. The Abnegation looked disappointed though, and I felt respect for her.
The choosing was over pretty soon, and we ran down all the stairs and out into open fresh air. I was laughing along with ¾ of the Marauders as we ran to the train station. I kept behind a little, not wanting to blow my cover of being able to run pretty fast, well, fast for Amity. We climbed up the pillars and waited patiently for the train. We never had this feeling at Hogwarts, so it was refreshing.
The train was speeding past, and some older dauntless people opened the doors for us. We all jumped on and I saw Beatrice with a Candor girl. I smiled and listened in to the conversation about James and Sirius turning into Animagi and rushing through Dauntless hq. I laughed, imagining the image and we all talked animatedly while heading to headquarters.
During the train ride, I scanned the train for other initiates. (These numbers are made up cause i cant remember shit) There were 6 candors, us 3 amity, 1 abnegation, and 3 erudite. 13 transfers in total. There were a lot of Dauntless initiates, but some weren’t. An older dauntless called out from the carriage that we had to jump.
I looked out the door and saw the building incoming, and people jumping. We were close to the building when Padfoot stood near the entrance in a running stance. He saluted and jumped yelling curse words when he rolled and landed, then beaming when he stood up. James looked shaken so I softly took his hand and squeezed it slightly. He smiled towards me and we nodded. Together. We ran, jumped, and rolled as well landed, getting tangled up.
Bursting out laughing, we made our way to Sirius who was beaming at us. We all walked towards the dauntless leaders who were waiting for us and we saw a man who had too many piercings for his own good. He smiled, the hole for his lip piercing stretching when he did. The man next to him began a speech.
“Listen up, initiates! My name is Max, one of the leaders of your new faction!” He was a dark skinned man with creases on his forehead. He had grey skin near his temples and he was wearing all black. Seems like the theme for dauntless. “Several stories below, is the initiates entrance to our compound. If you don’t have the guts to jump, you don’t belong in dauntless. The initiates have the privilege of going first.” Great. Heights.
“Well, may as well get it over with now.” I mumbled to James who looked curious at what I was going to do. During one of the Erudites questions, I walked up to the ledge, not looking at the leaders. I shrugged off my jacket, and stood on the edge.
“Ok, so there are people down there…” I mumbled to myself as Eric, one of the Dauntless leaders that was introduced, told me to hurry up. As I was about to jump, I turned around and flashed the middle finger at him. Hearing James snort, I jumped, letting laughter escape my mouth as I fell into a massive net.
I felt the net being pulled from the left, and I rolled and fell into someone's arms as the Abnegation girl stood on the ledge. He put me down, and I looked around. There were crowds of people and when I looked back, he had his eyebrows raised.
“Amity, well that’s unexpected.” I snorted and giggled at the girl who said the comment.
“They're too happy. Also, a note, don’t eat the bread.” The man’s lip curled slightly as he looked at me expectantly.
“What’s your name?” His voice was deep and he seemed to growl slightly when he talked. I thought Thalia wasn’t very ‘Dauntless’. “Think about it, you don’t get to pick again.” I decided to be called the name that I had been called by the Marauders since 1st year.
“Vixen.” I decided as I smirked and he turned his head towards the crowd.
“First jumper, Vixen. Welcome to Dauntless.” I saw more of the crowd as I heard a girlish scream come from the net. I had to clutch my stomach as I saw Sirius bouncing up and down.
