Parties were a common occurrence around this time of year, October beckoned Halloween which meant a perfect opportunity to “get drunk and slutty” or at least that’s the way Sirius black described it. He quickly realized that the slytherin party which they were so gracefully excluded from was actually half decent this year meaning that as he was sitting on the chair of the rotting old desk in classroom 14 (the spare used specifically for detentions) he made the executive decision to throw the biggest blow out that the gryffindor common room had seen in a long time. Which was saying something because James and himself prided themselves on coming up with the best reasons for a party.
He turned around to face his best friend who sat at the desk behind him doodling something into the chipping wood of the table.
“ oi prongsie” he whispered out
James was pulled out of his head by the words, the boys face quickly panned over to the front of the classroom where professor binns sat- asleep slumped in his chair- perfect.
“ ya?” He answered
“What do you say we throw a Halloween party of our own” Sirius asked a near iconic smirk present on his face
James beamed back
“Oh padfoot I’d thought you’d never ask”
And that’s just it. That’s all it took for a seed to be planted into potters head, that seed would bloom into a giant disastrous plan which would most definitely land them in the same position they were in as of current. With their asses planted firmly on the chairs of the detention classroom, pens in hand, writing lines.
This time it had been a faulty prank which James and him had planned, the marauders had orchestrated, and snivellus had snitched. Remus and Peter only got out of it due to conveniently not taking transfiguration this year, the only class and the only chance they had with Severus this year. It had only been a small spell which both Sirius and James had perfected over the course of two weeks (thank you Remus John lupin for being smart) it had gotten a giant laugh out of the entire class.
Severus couldn’t read out his work, whenever he had he read out complete rubbish - hilarious, Minnie didn’t see it as such. The bastard had it coming, Sirius had thought.
Minnie had given them both a week's worth of detention and a letter home, Sirius’ had been conveniently lost somewhere along the way - she had informed him so a few days after telling them off. “A problem with the owls' ' she had said with an awfully fond look present on her face.
The party was planned in short time, after all they only had a few days until Halloween night, James had begged Remus for days to put the silencing charm onto the gryffindor common room but the bastard wouldn’t agree to it, something about principles and using him for their wrong doing.
“Moony it’s not like you're not going to be there!” James had said
“Get someone else to do it, prongs” Remus sighed for the ninth time in this conversation. Collapsing back onto his bed. The door swung open revealing a overworked Sirius
“Potions is a drag” he said voice annoyed
“No what’s a drag is Remus not wanting to charm the common room!”james exclaimed
“Still stubborn are you moony?” Sirius asked clearly rhetorical as Remus did not deam it worthy of an answer, instead he simply shrugged and looked back at a pacing James
“Remus it’s just one spell” Peter butted in
“Then learn it yourself” he replied simply, his gaze locked back onto Sirius and James who were now whispering amongst themselves, Sirius looked back at him Briskly before walking to one of the legs of his four poster bed, and staring at him quite bluntly, sometimes Remus had thought that the way Sirius looked at him meant as much to Sirius as it did to him, he always felt foolish for thinking that way but he thought it nonetheless.
“Moony” Sirius began, a smirk present on his face, he leaned against the post of the bed
“Moony, please would you consider, maybe, possibly, putting a silencing spell over the common room so we could maybe, possibly get absolutely shit faced in peace?” The boy asked a sickeningly sweet smile on his face.
Remus looked at him, he looked at Sirius, his Sirius who was asking so nicely, his Sirius who would probably be shoving his tounge down some random girls throat under the influence of fire whiskey come nightfall. But right now it was just his Sirius staring at him, and he wasn’t made of steel…
“Fine” he answered looking rather indifferent considering the extensive monologue going on within his brain. Sirius practically preened with joy, running up to Remus and tackling him in a hug on the bed
“You’re the best moony” Sirius spoke into his shoulder
“Ya, ya, get off” Remus wished he never moved.
——
Word got around quick and by 11 pm that night the gryffindor common room had been turned into an alcohol drenched sweaty dance floor. James sat upon one of the sofas which they had tucked to the side, Sirius who had a cup in hand stood leaning against a wall next to him
“A success I would say” James said, the music was loud but Sirius could hear him nonetheless
“Good going prongsie we pulled it off” he pat james on the shoulder before walking of into the direction of the drinks
James watched his friend go, a smile on his face, he turned his head to glance at the door as someone new had walked in.
They had made a rule against inviting slytherins, they had excluded the marauders from their party and it only seemed right to repay the favor. James was a man of principles however, and by that he meant that if regulus black wanted to waltz into his party, looking awfully pretty under the dim and flashing lights, he most definitely could.
James knew regulus came here for him, otherwise he would have brought Evan and Barty along, who were quite hard to miss even in a bustling party. No this was particular, he came for him. James thanked his lucky stars and stood up off the sofa.
——
“Remus” Sirius dragged out swinging himself onto the boys shoulder from behind, Remus could smell the alcohol on his breath.
“Pads your plastered” Remus said, he himself was slightly tipsy, but they had exams coming up and he needed to study tomorrow afternoon a hang over wouldn’t help his case.
“Bullshit! I, moony mine am… perfectly! Sober!” Sirius exclaimed, way to close in proximity and to loud in tonality for Remus’ liking.
Sirius leaned his head down on Remus’ shoulder his grip around the boys shoulders tighting.
“You’re a real friend remus, James disappeared somewhere…. Probably shagging some babe…. That bastard” Sirius continued however now he sounded less awake, remus made an executive decision.
“Pads, how about we go upstairs, so you can rest your eyes” Remus said choosing his words wisely as saying ‘let’s go to bed’ to a drunk Sirius black was not a mistake he would make again.
“What? Oh… okay” Sirius seemingly registered very little of what Remus had actually said but followed him up the staircase to their dorm anyway.
Remus guided him to his bed taking off his shoes for him as he planted himself onto the mattress. Sirius was smiling up at him as he did so
“Your so caring Remus” the boy said, Remus just nodded back.
“Lay back pads just shut your eyes ya?” Remus said, Sirius had none of it,
“You know, I really like you Remus” Sirius mumbled out.
“I really like you too pads, just lay back then okay?” Remus answered not completely registering or taking seriously what the boy was saying
“No!” Sirius interrupted Remus attempts to push him down onto his back
“I like, really like you, never thought I could like a boy that way” Sirius said his arm gripping Remus shoulder as he did so
“That’s sweet pads” Remus replies. Sirius is drunk Remus thinks to himself, drunk people say things they don’t mean. He needs to focus, he won’t mean this when the sunrises and the hang over kicks in, he won’t mean this tomorrow or the day after. Remus had to focus
“No you don’t get it moony, I love you, I love every thing about you” Sirius tries again his eyes betraying him and starting to slow down their blinking pattern.
“That’s real sweet but I wish you were sober” Remus mumbles out, Sirius just blinks up at him before doing something which Remus wishes he hadn’t.
He kisses him, a real kiss a kiss that he craved heart and soul, but it was wrong because Sirius was drunk and he didn’t know what he was talking about or doing. He’d regret it, Remus told himself.
So he pushed him off,
“Go to bed pads your tired” he said, and Sirius hadn’t argued he just gave him a dopey smile and layed back atop his covers, shutting his eyes.
Why couldn’t he have been sober
