A LITTLE BACKGROUND!!!!!
On James’ 6th year he was having a pretty hard time and one night he decided to end it, what he wasn’t expecting was Regulus doing the same there. Naturally James stopped him, and they started to talk. Started dating, but then they parted ways friendly when James finished his school years. He married Lily, had Harry at 20, became a Hogwarts professor, at 21 Lily died due to an accident. Regulus had also started his career as a hogwarts professor. Regulus started helping him out with harry and everything and 3 years later they started dating again and still are.

“What’s on your mind?” James turned around rather abruptly, shaken from the sudden voice, but relaxed when he noticed that it was only Regulus.
“You scared me Regulus.” he smiled lightly.
“Why are you up here?”
“The view I guess. I just- I needed to get away.” he turned his back to the railing lf the Astronomy Tower to face the younger man.
“I never really knew why you were here that night.”
“Which night?” he smirked with a giggle. “Because I was always here to see you.”
“I’m talking about the first night, before- before everything.”
”Oh, that night…that was what? 14 years ago? I was in my 6th year and you were in your 5th…how time passes by fast…and now you teach Potions, i teach Defence Against the Dark Arts-“
“Don’t run away from the subject James.” he said now seriously. If someone who didn’t know him happen to him they’d say he was in the verge of crying.
But James just smiled. Faced to his left where Regulus couldn’t see his face properly. “Freefall.” he whispered
“What?”
“What?”
“What did you say?”
“I said…um-“
“You said freefall didn’t you? Were you-“
James faced him now, biting his bottom lip. A tear ran down Regulus’ cheek.
“Reg…” he hugged him.
“I’m sorry- I didn’t notice it- I made it all about me… I was so self-centred I was so dumb i-“
“Hey, hey! It’s in the past ok? I’m fine now, believe it or not you helped me.”
“But- why?”
“It doesn’t matter anymore-“
“Well it mattered enough back then to make you want to suicide!”
“I’m fine now Reg. Maybe another time we can talk about that.”
“Are you sure?”
“100%!”
“I-…I love you.”
“I love you too Reggie.”
“Now what’s this all about?”
“Harry? What are you doing here?” They were caught. By James’ own son (and basically Regulus’ just not biologically).
“Dad.” Harry had started Hogwarts just a few months ago but due to his dad(s) being teachers he had made himself pretty comfortable around but of course, being the teacher’s son wouldn’t get him out of much trouble.
“You should be asleep.” James crossed his arms.
“I couldn’t sleep, and I saw Reg…”
“So you decided to follow him?”
“Precisely…”
“Any idea why you couldn’t sleep?” Regulus put him on his shoulders and started walking down the stairs to put him to sleep. James took his hand and walked along side them.
“No…”
“That’s no problem, is it? As long as you fall asleep.” Regulus ruffled Harry’s hair a bit which made him giggle.
“Now, now, Harry gotta be quiet huh?” James said.
“As quiet as a goldfish!” he whispered.
“If that’s quiet, I see no problem in it.”
“Good night Harry.” James kissed him on his forehead when he was in his bed on the dorm.
“Night dad.”
“How about we go to sleep?” James said when he left the Gryffindor common room (Regulus was waiting for him outside).
“Sounds good to me.”
