7 The fog was so thick they could not see their hands, but they could hear something out there breathing heavily

The fog was heavy. In the deadly silence of the night, she heard shuffling. Deep breaths in the darkness.
Her friends had taken off, running towards the castle.
The cold chill of the dementors was airing close.
Hermione smiled.
The breathing came closer and closer to her. A shadowy silhouette came to stand behind her. She reached and grasped the cold hands of the creature beside her.
"Did you really need to lay the fog so thick?"she asked, chuckling softly.
The dementor smiled.
"I didn't want to scare your friends my dear."
Hermione turned, raising her eyebrow. "You mean more than just very suddenly making them think hundreds of dementors are attacking Hogwarts once more?"
"I thought you didn't want them to know yet. I'm sorry, but I missed you dearly. I didn't want to risk any Patroni being sent my way."
She sighed. "I want them to know.. it's the questions I don't want to answer. I'll tell them soon, love, I promise."
The Dementor smiled. "I know."
And he bent down to kiss her, gently, barely touching her lips. Hermione leaned into his touch, and raised to kiss him again, but he stopped her.
"I'm sorry dear. I don't want to risk it tonight. I just wanted to see you, but I am not myself. Haven't fed much lately."
Her eyes searched his, an open invitation in them. He shook his head. "No. I said I won't feed from you again."
"My love, but my thoughts are the happiest with you, are they not?"
He grasped her hands. "I don't want to hurt you."
Hermione brushed her lips to his, before retreating swiftly. "I know you won't."
