The market square was bustling with parents and their children, buying stuff for the new school year under Athena's teachings, however, 12 particular people weren't even thinking about it. A bunch of school students who weren't likely attending next year decided to go sit at the abandoned temple of Athena.
"Achilles!" Remus called Sirius' nick name, into the trees behind the temple, "Did you find a stump?"
A stifled grump came from within the trees, holding a giant table-like stump. "Yes, darling."
Remus ran to him, holding the bottom of it and pulling it up so he could reach it better, They walked to the temple and dropped the stump in the centre of the twelve of them. They were to place their letters their and any of their belongings they would want to get back if they survived the maze. "There you go." Said Sirius brushing his hands on his tunic.
Remus sat down on a upside-down plant pot which he found within the temple. He looked towards Regulus and James where Regulus was frowning, cuddled up to James while James was whispering things to him.
"Whats wrong?" Remus asked, slightly intrigued at Regulus' rage which, although common, seemed different.
"These transphobic Nobles said I am one of six girls to compete for the victory of 'killing' the minotaur." He spat, throwing the letter to the floor and cuddling up to James more tightly.
Sirius rolled his eyes, "The Nobles are scared of any sort of queer activity because they think its a disease because they are imbeciles, just like our father who unironically leads them."
Regulus nodded agreement, his hand slightly loosening from the fist it was before. James kissed Regulus' forehead. "You ok?" He whispered softly. Regulus nodded, "Can I have a kiss?"
James smiled, kissing his lips delicately, holding his cheek with left hand, the other hand still wrapped around his back as they sat on the concrete floor. Marlene laughed, "Homosexuality for as long as we shall live!"
"Homosexuality for as long as we shall live!" The others all screamed in unison, laughing as they did. They laughed for a bit, until
Dorcas stood up, looking at the broken statue of Athena, moss covering her hair and eyes, and cracks going alone her legs.
"Oh goddess Athena, may you please spare our lives so we can live as long as we should, so we can laugh till our final breaths, so we can kiss till death does us all part, so we can cry together to be humans, Please, Athena, I beg you."
The others looked at her, empathetic at her and at everyone else. These were the last days to do what they wanted before they had to fight for their lives. Before they had to kill, or before they were killed themselves.
