First-day nerves
“Merlin's sake Pads wake up” James begged the sleeping Sirius “PLEASE we are going to be late for my first practice as captain”
Sirius didn't move behind his curtains and James had enough of his laziness and walked over to Sirius's bed and opened the curtains only to find the bed empty.
“SOMEONE KIDNAPED SIRIUS!!” James wailed and ran to Remus's bed to ask him where the map was and as he opened the curtains he realized Remus’s bed was also empty.
James started to panic as he ran to Peter's bed only to find it empty too.
He was alone. His friends left him.
Without a goodbye.
Without a reason.
But James knew better than to be ignorant enough to think they had no reason.
They left because of James.
Because he was too much.
Too loud
Too happy
Too annoying
Too much James
RINGGGGGG… RINGGGG… RINGGGG
James woke in a fright
“UGGGHHH shut that bloody thing up prongs” shouted Remus over the noise of James's alarm
“Yah sorry Moony” James says as he shuts off the alarm
“I get to sleep another 2 hours right prongs?” Remus asks hoping it isn’t time for him to get up
“Don’t worry Moony it’s just the obnoxiously loud Quidditch alarm that wakes us up before the sun” Sirius said in a gruff
“It’s a Christmas miracle Sirius woke up on time,” James said laughing
“Oh shove off prongs like I would miss your first day as captain”
James couldn't help but smile. His friend would never leave him, especially without a reason. Right?
“Can you two shove a sock in it some of us wanna sleep” Peter said his voice muffled by his pillow
“Sorry Wormtail,” the two boys said in unison
While Sirius and James were getting ready in the girls' dorm Marlene, Mary, and Lily were getting dressed to go to the pitch
“Oh Merlin Lils just admit it you're just going to check out Potter,” Mary said laughing
“I’m not going to Check out James I’m going to cheer my favorite girls on,” Lily said
“You can lie to yourself Lils but not your best friends,” Marlene said poking her head from the bathroom “It’s the same as Mar going to the Ravenclaw games. She says it’s to learn their secrets but really it’s to stare at Vance’s ass”
“I don’t stare at her ass,” Mary says as she throws a pillow at Marlene
“Denying it won’t change the facts,” Lily says to Mary
“That applies to you too Mrs. Potter,” Marlene said walking out of the dorm with the girls close behind
“Shhhh Marls someone might hear you,” Lily said shushing her friend as they entered the common room
“Morning ladies”
All 3 girls jumped at the sudden voice
“You can’t sneak up on us like that Sirius!” Marlene scolded Sirius after he had startled her
“You can’t blame me for your unattentiveness,” Sirius said with one arm on James shoulder and the other held up in surrender
“Stop trying to act smart by pulling big words out of your ass Sirius,” Marlene said while rolling her eyes
After a lot of bickering the group finally gets to the pitch
“¡qué diablos! (what the hell!) Why are the Slytherins here” James exclaims as he sees green robes
“I bet the new captain got the dates confused,” Lily says trying to defuse the building tension
“I almost forgot Goyle was kicked from the team,” Sirius said “I hope this time they chose someone who won't curse the other team” They all nodded in agreement remembering what happened to the Hufflepuff players last year.
“What are you doing here Black?” Evan said to Sirius “We have the pitch reserved today” the distaste in his voice is very obvious.
“Can’t you Slyth-” Sirius said before James cut in saving him from getting beat up
“I think you got the dates mixed up Rosier, you see we have the pitch on Mondays and Wednesdays”
“I don’t know about any dates you can talk to the captain if you’re really sure,” Evan says casually
“You're not the captain? Then who is?” James asked curious
“Regulus of course,” Evan said with a smirk
Sirius's eyes went wide “But he’s is a 5th year,” Sirius said confused
“And the only one willing to take the responsibility, that wouldn’t be tempted to repeat last year,” Evan says
Before Sirius can ask something else James cuts in “Where is Regulus?”
“Training the new chaser,” Evan says before turning towards the pitch and cupping his hands around his mouth “IO REG THERE'S SOME BLOKES WHO WANNA TALK TO YOU”
“TELL THEM TO FUCK OFF IM BUSY” Regulus shouts back without taking his eyes off of the new chaser who is fast but needs to work on her balance
“IT'S YOUR FAVORITE GRYFFINDORS THO” Evan shouts back with an amused look on his face
With this Regulus's eyes snapped toward Evan and the group of Gryffindors that was slowly growing as players were approaching the pitch
“Oh this is going to be so fun,” Regulus says groaning as he flies toward the group
When he’s close enough he perfectly dismounts his broom like he was made to ride, a broom that is
“What do you want?” Regulus looks directly at Sirius assuming he’s the one who wants to talk
James speaks before Sirius has the chance “Uhh Regulus, I think you got the dates mixed up on the schedule Slytherins get Tuesdays and Thursdays before a game”
“Not when we have new players the rules say that a new player must have at least 3 practices before a game” Regulus says this like it’s common knowledge
“What? I’ve never heard that before” James says visibly confused
“Because he made it up” Sirius answers
Regulus rolls his eyes and sighs “Acio rule book” As the rook flies into his hand
Sirius rolls his eyes and mocks his younger brother.
Once Regulus finds the page he hands it to James so he can read it “Here read it for yourself, Potter”
James takes the book and quickly reads the page with Sirius reading over his shoulder “But no one follows this rule Regulus” James says
“I do,” Regulus says before he turns and goes back to teaching the new chaser
“Bye Potter,” Evan said winking at James following Regulus
“Well, that went better than expected,” Marlene said, putting her hands on James and Sirius' shoulders.
As the group walked back to the castle Regulus and Evan were laughing at James's face
“Merlin I love proving Gryffindors wrong,” Regulus said with a smile on his face as Evan wrapped his arm around his shoulders
“Especially when it’s Potter, Merlin how I would love to have him begging beneath me,” Evan said
“Merlin Ev can’t you have one conversation without mentioning fucking someone” Regulus groaned
“No, Reggie-kins I can’t,” Evan said pinching Regulus’s cheek
Slapping Evan's hand away Regulus says “Don't call me that it's condescending”
“It's not condescending it’s endearing Reggie-kins,” Evan said as they reached the rest of the team
“What happened with the Gryffindors over there?” Barty asked curious about the conversation that got his friends smiling
“Don’t worry your pretty little head about it Barty” Evan says brushing him off
“Oh come on I NEED the gossip” Bary begged
“There is no gossip Barty,” Regulus said knowing it would drive Barty, the queen of gossip, crazy
“Just go finish studding for your transfiguration test” Even said shooting him off
“I finished studying last night asshole” Barty said
“Then why are you here so early in the morning?” Regulus said questioning his friend
“Because you two are my best friends” Barty said putting his arm around both of them “and I wanted to revise my essay for potions”
“oh mes étoiles(oh my stars), How were you not put in Ravenclaw?” Regulus Said rhetorically
“The hat knew I looked better in green” Barty said smugly
“Yah yah now are we going to keep chit-chatting like a bunch of chicks or are we going to resume practice” Evan said bored
“Ugh Ev’s right this team needs all the practice we can get” Regulus said tired of teaching the team to stop playing dirty
Back at the gryffindor dorms
“Je ne peux pas le croire, oh le culot de cette petite connasse” (I can't believe him, oh the nerve of that little twat) Sirius continued his little rant as him and James got back to the dorm
“Padfoot for the millionth time I don't speak french so please stop expecting me to understand you” James said exasperated
“Sorry I forget I switch sometimes” sirius said a bit embarrassed
“Its fine I do the same thing” James said throwing his arm around Sirius
“Oh god please don't tell me it's time to get up already” Remus wined behind the curtains of his bed
“We weren’t able to practice so we’re back early” James said
“Oh thank merlin” Peter said from his bed “not that practice was canceled that its not time to get up”
“I'm going to shower” James said getting undressed and grabbing his towel
Sirius looked at him confused “Why? We only walked”
“Because I wanna ask Evans to go the Hogsmeade with me this saturday and I want my waves to be wavy” James said as wrapped his towel around his waist and grabbed his uniform
“You’ll be fine as long as you don’t freeze up” Remus said sarcastically still in his bed
“Just don’t make it a repeat of the Spring Formal from last year all over again” Sirius said jokingly
“Oh shut it the both of you” James said before he shut the bathroom door
“Someones on his lady days” Peter said jokingly causing the other 2 to laugh
In the great hall
“Sooo when you wanna pop the question Prongs?” Sirius said teasingly
“I will ask Evans w-” James started to say
“Ask me what” Lily's voice came suddenly
James eyes went wide and his spine instantly stiffened as he looked away from his plate
“Uhhh I wanted to ask you if you wanted to go Hogsmead with me this weekend” James said quickly “with all of us, as a group thing of course”
As James added that bit to the end the three other marauders struggled not to burst out laughing at their friends repeated mistake
“I thought that was pre-established” Marlene said as the three girls sat in front of the boys
“It was” he said quickly “Is um just wanted to ask formally that's all” James was getting even more red by the second and the three boys were struggling to keep up right from holding in their laughter
“What's with them” Mary said nodding at the three that were struggling to breath
“Stress” James said as if it was the most logical answer
“It's called stress giggles, very contagious” Peter said causing the three to laugh even harder at James’s shitty excuse
The rest of breakfast continued as normal after all the laughter settled
