Chapter 10
Epilogue
Hermione held out her hand containing her wand as Minerva McGonagall performed a complex charm around it.
“Do you, Hermione Granger-Malfoy, agree to under take the duties of Headmistress, to the best of your abilities?”
“I do”
“And do you agree to hold the students best interests at the forefront of your mind at all times?”
“I do”
“It is with great pleasure that I proclaim you, Headmistress of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry”.
There was tremendous cheers and applause among the crowd of onlookers.
Her children, front and centre, now 15 years old, cried out the loudest. Her ex husband Ron and his wife, one of Hermione’s closest friends, Vivienne stood by with their daughter Lexi and their son Landon, both toddlers.
Ginny and Harry were there with their children, James, Albus and Lily who ranged in ages from 16 to 12.
And finally, beside her, stood Draco, holding in his arms a tiny bundle of blankets that contained their son, Scorpius.
Behind them sat the entirety of the school all of whom she had taught, mentored or guided in some way as the muggle studies professor, Gryffindor head of house and unofficial guide for muggle born children and their families when they felt lost.
She and Draco had both made a name for themselves as some of the student’s favourite professors, even having successfully brought Gryffindors and Slytherins together, with Draco also having been head of Slytherin house.
They had been able to keep their relationship separate, for the most part, however, there had been times when Hermione found herself pulled behind a tapestry as she walked down a deserted corridor, or taken to the room of requirement for the opportunity to make love on every surface in an exact replica of the library.
She and Draco had married after their first year of teaching, and in the summer holidays. It was quiet with just the children and a few close friends present.
It had been a tremendous shock to Hermione, finding out she was pregnant in the lead up to taking over as professor. There had been concerns about how she’d possibly manage, but with some modifications, adjustments to schedules for hers and Draco’s classes and a delay in the final handover, Hermione was confident that she could handle both motherhood and being Headmistress.
Now, as she was cheered on by those around her that she held most precious to her heart, she suddenly realised that, despite everything she’d been through, despite the war, the months on the run, the battle, life in the castle and beyond, Hogwarts was, and always would be, her home.
