First after
I don’t remember how I got home.
I just remember the police? And thinking of when Regulus bit me. I put my hand up to my neck where he bit me.
There’s nothing there. Did I just imagine it? No, there’s no way.
When I get home I try to sneak up the stairs to my house, I’m not about to be caught.
“Hey!” Shit mom is here. Why is she up anyway? It’s the middle of the night “what do you think you’re doing? Do you think I didn’t see you?”
“Mom” What the actual fuck do I do?
“Get in the house. Now.”
We walk up the stairs.
“Where have you been?”
“I know, I’m sorry I lost track of time and I was gonna call-”
“No. We’re order, Jamie. We don’t lose track of anything” I gotta tell her about my first kill, Regulus Black, the vampire, is dead. I killed him, he is my first kill, I think. It feels good, having killed someone you know is a threat to everyone, he was even popular.
“I stabbed a vampire”
“What the hell are you talking about?”
“My first kill, I guess. I stabbed him, he passed out, I ran”
“Passed out? What, like, just collapsed? He didn’t disintegrate?” I just shake my head, shit “Okay then he wasn’t a vampire Jamie”
“He was. He definitely was”
“James. When you stab a vampire you’ll know. There is no doubt. There’s fire and ash, immediately” I’m sure I killed him.
“Usually I know. Noah just killed one at the cemetery, remember? I don’t know why this one didn’t”
“Okay. Alright. We’ll discuss this in the morning. Go to bed sweetie”
I go to bed and am fast asleep.
I’m in some kind of ruins, I can hear someone or something approaching.
I get a dagger out.
Mom comes out.
“You scared me”
“You scared me. You see anything yet love?” mom replies.
I shake my head “not since the first one dad took down.” I’m still holding the dagger.
“Hey, sweetie relax”
I look at the dagger “Sorry” I say and lower the weapon.
As soon as I lower the weapon mom starts transforming into a monster. Shit.
“Well that was easy” the monster says and pushes the dagger out of reach.
Then mom shoots it with an arrow.
“The worst monsters are the one who appear human, Jamie. Please, never forget that.”
“James” mom wakes me up. It’s too early, even for me. I’m an early bird.
“Mom, I thought you said we’d talk about it in the morning?”
“This is morning, now show me what you did sweetheart”
“Uhm, we were in a closet, close”
“What were you doing in a closet?”
“It was a dare”
“Okay, show me what you did, exactly what you did”
I think about Regulus, his eyes, smile, kiss, his touch, his fangs in my neck.
It takes a couple tries but then I place moms hands on my cheek and do exactly what I did to James.
“That was perfect form. Are you sure you saw his fangs?”
“Yes one hundo procento”
“Okay, go to school and keep your head down and eyes open. Okay love?”
“Okay”
