Chapter 6
“Marriage?!” If James hadn’t spelled Sirius to the bed approximately thirty seconds beforehand, he’d be jumping up from his bed and pacing up and down the hospital wing. Sirius started, betrayed, "Why didn’t you tell me—"
"I tried to stop him. I caught him just a few hours ago, enacting the beginnings of the ritual. I delayed him as best as I could, but we know it won’t stop him." James hadn’t slept since the conversation with the Durmstrang exchange, opting to take a look at the few anthropological textbooks he had that mentioned courting rituals across different cultures. As soon as the hospital wing opened, he ran to wake Sirius.
Sirius deflated.
"He might also… be under the impression that you were planning on courting Snape as well. That might’ve been my fault. It was an accident. Sorry."
"No, no, it’s fine. I can work with that." A contemplative look crossed the young man’s face.
"What are you gonna do? I’ve heard that Easterners fight each other to death for the right of marriage to their betrothed. The muggle way. Snivellus is not worth that." James shook his head, a sudden flash of the school watching avidly as a bloodied Sirius gets chased around a large circular arena by an angry behemoth crossing his mind.
Sirius thought for a second, then he sat up as best as he could. "Help me up. I’ve a plan."
