The Courtyard

“He kinda looks like me. Doesn’t he?”

The Marauders were all sitting around the courtyard fountain, watching as the new Durmstrang exchange and Snape leaned against a parapet and excitedly discussed whatever the hell they were whispering about all the damn time. Though the boy was their age, he loomed over even Snape’s, only the second tallest in their year’s, lanky figure.

James squinted. “Maybe if you were a lot taller,”

“And more muscular,” said Remus.

“And much sexier.” snorted Peter.

Sirius narrowed his eyes at the smallest boy, uncharacteristically wounded. “Geez Pete, I’m sure he’d let you suck him if you asked nice enough.”

Peter didn’t flinch. “I could say the same for you.”

Sirius pointedly ignored this comment. Snape was now shaking with mirth as the other boy spoke animatedly above him, gesticulating wildly before casually resting his forearm on the cobblestone above Snape’s head to lean down and whisper in his ear, his wide back effectively caging Snape in and blocking Sirius’ view of their faces. Suave.

Sirius stood up. Behind him, the other three boys exchanged glances.

“Auris Elephantis!” Sirius’ wand was pointed at the two before the other boys could protest. In an instant the Slytherin and Durmstrang boy sprung apart, Snape’s ears taking on a large, gray, and wrinkled appearance.

Sirius was doubled over in laughter as the hex transfigured its target, but his reaction quickly turned to one of apprehension as a voice bellowed out, “Mr. Black!”

Sirius quickly straightened up, a million excuses at the ready, “Professor McGonagall! I was just-“

"Cease your antics and excuses at once," the professor strode up to the boy and declared sternly, “this is not the behavior that upholds the dignity of our institution. Ten points from Gryffindor.” With that, she spelled Snape’s ears back to normal and the boys stalked off, Snape pulling the other by his robe and whispering furiously when it looked like he wasn’t going to leave before tearing Sirius a new one. Sirius blew air out of his nose angrily as he watched the boy finally retract at Snape’s insistence.

“You four! My office.” McGonagall gripped Sirius by the bicep and dragged him away, clucking under her breath. James’ arms flail in bewilderment. Leave it to Sirius to ruin their morning.

“Well, that’s one way to deal with the elephant in the room.” Remus said sarcastically as the other three made to follow the quickly retreating Sirius and McGonagall.
