Chapter 3

“Alastor Moody,” the teacher spoke as he stood in front of the classroom writing his name on the board

"Ministry malcontent. And your new defence against the dark arts teacher. I'm here because Dumbledore asked me, end of story, goodbye, the end. Any questions? When it comes to the dark arts, I believe in a practical approach. But first, which of you can tell me how many unforgivable curses there are?"

The students in the classroom exchanged nervous glances, unsure of how to respond to Moody's blunt introduction. A girl who sat front and centre hand shot up,

"Three sir," she said, crossing her hands at the end.

"And they are so named?" he looked at her, his mechanical eye fixing her with a stare.

"Because they are unforgivable. Use of any one of them will..." she fidgeted in her seat.

"Will earn you a one-way ticket to Azkaban. Correct. Now the ministry says you're too young to see what these curses do. I say different! You need to know what you're up against, you need to be prepared, you need to find somewhere else to put your chewing gum other than the underside of your desk Mr Finnigan!" Moody's stern gaze swept across the classroom, his words filled with conviction.

"Aw no way, the old codger can see out the back of his head," a student muttered to one of his friends.

"So, which curse shall we see first? Weasley!" Mad-eye threw the chalk at the chalkboard in frustration.

"Yes..." Weasly trembled.

"Give us a curse,"

"Well, my dad did tell me about one... The imperious curse." Weasly mumbled.

"Ahhh yes, your father would know all about that. Gave the ministry quite a bit of grief a few years ago. Perhaps this will show you why." Mad-Eye pops open a jar with a spider in it.

"Hello. What a little beauty," he crooned."He uses his wand to send it around the class, carefully controlling its movements. The spider scuttles across the desks, causing a few students to jump and squeal.

"Don't worry. Completely harmless." Mad-eye tells them. "But if she bites... she's lethal!" Mad-eye smiles. Draco laughs, earning a side glance from Kalevi almost in fear for the consequences of Draco's actions.

"What are you laughing at?" Mad-eye asked.

The spider scurried across the desks, its tiny legs skittering along the smooth surface. The students watched in both awe and trepidation as Mad-Eye Moody controlled its movements with a flick of his wand. But then, with a mischievous glint in his eye, he aimed the spider towards Draco Malfoy.
Draco's laughter abruptly ceased as the creature landed on his face, its delicate legs tickling his skin. Panic flashed in Draco's eyes as he desperately tried to shake it off, but Mad-Eye's spell held it firmly in place.

The classroom fell into a stunned silence, all eyes fixed on Draco's struggle. Some students couldn't help but smirk at his predicament, relishing in seeing the haughty Slytherin taken down a notch. Others felt a twinge of sympathy for Draco's discomfort.

The spider wriggled in the air, its delicate legs desperately trying to escape. A mischievous glint shone in his eye as he held it over a bucket of water, its surface shimmering with anticipation. The classroom held its breath, the air heavy with tension.

Mad-Eye's voice cut through the silence, laced with dark amusement. "Talented, isn't she? What shall I have her do next? Jump out the window? Drown herself?" His words hung in the air, sending shivers down the spines of the students.

"Scores of witches and wizards have claimed that they only did you-know-whose bidding under the influence of the imperious curse. But here's the rub, how do we sort out the liars? Another.. another.. Come on, come on. Longbottom is it? Up."

A boy stands up, quivering slightly as he maintained eye contact with the professor.

"Professor Sprout tells me you have an aptitude for herbology,"Mad-eye smiled.

"Here's the um... The cruciatus curse," the boy who was identified as Longbottom mumbled.

“Correct! Correct! Particularly nasty. The torture curse.”

Mad-Eye Moody continues his lesson, his voice filled with a mix of dark amusement and authority. The students listen intently, their eyes fixed on him as he demonstrates the power of the Imperius Curse on a spider

The spider writhed in agony as Mad-Eye Moody subjected it to his dark and twisted magic. Its high-pitched squeals filled the classroom, sending shivers down the spines of the students. Some couldn't bear to watch, turning away in disgust, while others were transfixed by the cruel display of power. Mad-Eye's eyes gleamed with sadistic pleasure as he continued his torment, relishing in the suffering he inflicted upon the helpless creature.

"Stop it! Can't you see it's bothering him, stop it!" The girl from earlier soon shouted standing up quickly, eyes nervously glancing at Longbottom.

Mad-Eye's grip tightened around the spider, its feeble struggles growing weaker by the second. The classroom fell into an uneasy silence as Neville's distress echoed through the air. Mad-Eye's eyes flickered with a hint of annoyance at the interruption, but he complied with the girl's plea.

"Perhaps you could give us the last unforgivable curse, Miss Granger." He stared at the girl who seemed to now be trembling as she sat there in silence.
The spider disintegrated into a cloud of dust, its tortured existence abruptly ended by Mad-Eye Moody's spell. The classroom fell into an eerie silence as the remnants of the creature scattered in the air.

"Vau," Kalevi felt himself muttering under his breath, earning a side glance from Draco.

"The killing curse. Only one person is known to have survived it. And he's sitting in this room," Mad-eye continued, walking over to the infamous Harry Potter's desk.

Draco rolled his eyes dramatically at the scene. "Bloody Potter, thinks he deserves all the glory," Draco spat, Kalevi smiled slightly, agreeing with the blond boy’s words.
