Sirius had just moved near a barn in the countryside away from the city with James. It was awful, he was so used to being able to order dinner online and have it arrive at his door within half an hour. Now, they had to but groceries and prepare all of their meals or drive out to the nearest fast food chain restaurant forty five minutes away. Plus, James spent a majority of his time at a new job and came home late only to leave early morning. This left Sirius alone for the entire day without anything to do. Naturally, he wanted a pet. It was a perfect opportunity, too. Google Maps wasn’t much help in finding a pet store or local rescue shelter though. Sirius decided to drive into town and ask around instead, perhaps he’d find a shelter on his way.
It took Sirius way too long to find the town than they would ever admit. He’d left in the afternoon, expecting to be home within a couple hours. How wrong could he have been? Sirius took three wrong turns and drove past the town completely and had to turn around, only to get distracted by a text from Marlene. Instead of just heading home, Sirius wanted to finish what they had started. So, he began asking locals, most of which just brushed him off as some tourist trying to visit small towns. It was nearing five and Sirius admitted defeat, walking towards their car.
Pulling on the door handle, it wouldn’t open. Rolling his eyes at his own stupidity, Sirius reached into the pocket of their leather jacket, only to find a couple loose coins and travel sized eyeliner. He checked his other pocket. Phone. Maybe his pant pockets. They began patting themself down, frantically looking for his keys. Glancing into the window of his car, he silently cursed himself. He forgot the keys inside the car. Fuck. It’s okay though, because fortunately, James has another copy of the keys. Unlocking his phone, he went into his contact and clicked on James number. One ring..Shit. Dead phone. He shoved his phone into his pocket and rubbed his hands together, the sun was starting to set. With nothing left to do, Sirius remembered something they saw on TV. What if he broke into his car? He was fairly certain that there wasn’t an alarm. Inhaling deeply, they put their palms on the window and tried pulling it down.
“Fuck!” Breathed Sirius, slamming his fist on the car roof. Moving to the front of the vehicle, they shuffled their way on the hood, resting their elbows on their knees. He didn’t know how long he had been sitting there, but it was nearly dark.
Sirius always preferred the night, perhaps it was because Regulus was born right after the sunset. He also always admired the beauty of the moon. It reminds him of one of many quotes that Regulus recites to them, ‘The sun watches what I do, but the moon knows all my secrets.’
There was a sound of hooves to the right of Sirius, who turned his head and noticed a man trotting on a horse, heading towards him. His breath caught in his throat as he saw the mans exterior. He had slightly tanned skin with sandy blonde locks that swept in the chilly wind. He was wearing a cowboy hat, matched with professional looking boots paired with a cream coloured shirt, top three buttons undone, revealing his collarbone. It took Sirius a moment to register the scars on the man. They wondered how he got them, as every scar tells a different story.
Sirius jumped as the man cleared his throat and looked downward at Sirius, hazel eyes reflecting the light of the moon. With a low voice he introduced himself,”Hey there buddy, got locked out of your car?” Noticing Sirius’ blank stare he added, “Remus Lupin,” gesturing to the horse,”An’ this is Grant.”
Blinking, Sirius licked his lips, trying to keep his eyes on Remus eyes. Responding slightly hoarse, “Sirius Black. Erm..Yeah and my phone died.”
Nodding slowly, Remus offered with a smirk, “How would you like to ride home on a real cowboy? I’ve got a six pack of cold ones all nice an’ my roomies out all night so you can scream my name as loud as ya need to, sugar.”
“Yeah, okay.” They responded automatically, because who wouldn’t? Remus grinned and held out a hand, helping him onto the horse, between the neck of the horse and Remus. Sirius felt Remus’ arms around their waist as he used the reins to guide the horse.
Eventually, they arrived at a small one story house. The front displayed a carefully tended to garden, surrounded by a old wooden fence. Remus held onto Sirius hand firmly as he guided them off the horse, other hand hovering over their waist as Sirius knees buckled slightly. Gesturing to the front door as he began leading the horse behind the house, “Head on in, i’ll be right there.”
Sirius answered him with a nod, walking towards the front door slowly, admiring the older style of the house. He’s used to white tiles and sleek black walls that doesn’t feel like home, except for the Potters. But even then it never felt like a home. Once they stepped inside, their eyes roamed the room as they sat down on the couch. Not long after, Remus stepped through the front door and put his cowboy hat on a hook mounted into the wall, which sported three other hats, varying in colour. He stepped into the kitchen and looked over his shoulder, “I only have tea..But i’ll take a look, see if i’ve got something else.”
Standing up, Sirius walked into the kitchen and without thinking, stepped in front of Remus. He looked up at the other man and gave him his signature grin before wrapping his arms around Remus’ neck. This made the other boy flush slightly and gently placed a mug on the counter before placing his hands on Sirius’ face. They stood up on their toes and planted a kiss on Remus’ lips, pulling away slightly and looking at him. Sirius desperately hoped Remus wanted to kiss them and that they hadn’t made a stupid decision by kissing him.
Remus whispered to him in a hoarse voice, “Save a horse and ride a cowboy.” He then promptly pulled Sirius’ face to his, tilting his head down slightly to reach the shorter boys lips. Sirius breathed him in, hands roaming over Remus shirt and feeling his strong body. The kiss slowly became faster and more heated. Remus began guiding Sirius down the small hallway, keeping the kiss intact. They wanted to taste all of Remus so badly, so they began trailing kisses down to his neck and grabbed for the nearest doorknob, twisting it open.
Mumbling into Sirius hair, Remus guided him to the door opposite of that one, “Not that room. My friends. This mine.”
The next morning, Sirius found themself in an unfamiliar environment, except for a warm and comforting heat next to him.
His moon.
