Yoongi is heading down for breakfast when he sees Namjoon in one of the halls. He smiles, runs over to him, and nudges him slightly as a greeting. Namjoon smiles down at him, and Yoongi finds that Namjoon may just be the most beautiful person alive in his own humble opinion. They continue their way down the halls, talking as they head for the great hall.
When they enter the great hall, Yoongi instantly spots their friends, pulling Namjoon by his hand to go sit with them. They are all laughing, Jin is talking enthusiastically, and there’s a giggling, though a little bit more shy and reserved than usually. It’s weird, Yoongi thinks. When he does sit, he decides that something is wrong. Something is definitely wrong. The table has suddenly gotten a bit quiet. Seokjin is wearing his signature smirk, looking down at the table. No, sorry. Rewind, please. Seokjin is wearing his signature smirk, looking down at the table. It couldn’t possibly be. “I said I wouldn’t tell on you guys to the teachers-” Jin says quietly, and when the others just can’t hold it in anymore, the table erupts into laughter. Of course, Yoongi should have expected this. It’s not that he’s uncomfortable, in any way, he’s just embarrassed. Quite embarrassed, you could say. He’s pretty sure that his neck, ears and cheeks are pretty telling. He doesn’t even have it in him to look at Namjoon. He can feel pats on his back, and hears Taehyung’s soothing voice say to him: “At least you’re having a good time, Hyung, don’t be embarrassed”. He can also hear Jin and Jimin snickering a little, so maybe he has the right to be just a little embarrassed.
Yoongi doesn’t exactly enjoy these kind of situations, so Namjoon instead points out Seokjin’s swollen lips, and proceeds to continue even further with various parodies of “Hoseok~!”’s and “Oh my god”’s, and the whole table bursts out laughing at Jin’s beet-red face. The tips of his ears are scarlet, and to make it even worse, Yoongi adds: “I’m sure the prefect bathrooms are being put to good use”. And the table once again erupts into chaos. Jimin is at that point of laughing where he stumbles over the bench and onto the floor. Taehyung assists him in getting back up, snickering a little at his friends clumsiness. To the previous comment, Yoongi receives a slap on the back of his head from Jin; well deserved. The rest of the table is still laughing, and Yoongi smirks a little, it was worth it. Jungkook just stares alternately at Yoongi, Namjoon and Seokjin in horror, while the others snicker and giggle.
While they begin to talk about all sorts of other stuff that gets talked about on a normal weekday at 08:00 in the morning, Yoongi puts scrambled eggs, bacon, a slice of toast, and so on on his plate, just for good measure. He eats, smiling, really just enjoying it. They don’t have all that much time, but they act like they do. So what if they’re late for class? It’s not like they have Snape for the first few couple of classes anyway. He laughs, he talks, he eats, all in bliss of the moment. He’s grateful, really. That’s the right word. He’s grateful that he even got into Hogwarts in the first place. He’s grateful he has such wonderful friends that have each other’s backs and knows everyone well enough to know what’s fun and what’s taking it a step too far. He’s grateful he has such a nice boyfriend, who he can be 100% Yoongi around. He can relax, and almost no matter how stupid he must have sounded in the past, Namjoon didn’t once judge him. He helped him though, asked “What’s wrong?” And didn’t jump to the conclusion that he was a dick just because what he said might sometimes have been the kind of things you’d hear from one.
It’s true, that sometimes Yoongi found it hard to express himself, and then the obvious answer was just to make others look stupid instead of himself. It didn’t really help him, and it had definitely been a challenge for him to realize that he didn’t make himself feel better by looking down on other people, it made him feel worse. His friends were with him all the way, though. They knew that he wasn’t as shitty of a person as he made himself out to be. For a while, he thought he didn’t deserve them. They were all too nice for their own good, honestly.
With time, he came to discover his own qualities, like being hardworking, determined, and able to read his fellow students in a way that helped everyone. He made himself proud. He also discovered that a good friend wasn’t necessarily always someone that was very outgoing, it could by any means be the other way around, too. People said that he might seem a bit cold, unapproachable. He, first of all, learned not to listen. Those kind of people really just weren’t worth his time. Namjoon, Jin, Hoseok, Taehyung, Jimin, Jungkook, all of them were so worth his time though. Every hour, every minute, every second. He second of all learned that those who only see his facade are perhaps not worth being friends with, and that he’s prioritizing his time quite well.
So maybe, just maybe, being made a bit fun of for his recklessness once in a while wasn’t so bad after all when he got their precious, precious friendship in return. He loved them after all is said and done, didn’t he? Yoongi thinks that he does.
