An unexpected visit

So you're probably wondering how one finds themselves in this situation. Sitting across from three people? Witch? Mage? Old people in robes, going on about some crazy magic school that they would like you to attend.

Well I am too. Hi, my name is Kokichi Oma. A 12 year old boy with a silver tongue and a knack for mischief, and this is the story of how I got into one of, if not the most prestigious wizarding school in all of Britain. Even though I live in Bunkyo Tokyo. Which for those of you who don’t know, that’s in bloody Japan!

*****

It was just a typical Friday evening towards the end of August, the sun slowly sinking in the sky. Changing from light blue to a soft pink as Kokichi walked back home from a little tussle he got into at the park a short ways away from the famous Hope’s Peak Academy, kicking a pebble as he went.

You see, Kokichi doesn’t try to get into fights. Especially since he almost never wins with just his raw strength, since compared to other kids his age he’s relatively small. But he wasn’t just going to let those punks from his sister's middle school trash talk her like that. The girl already has the self confidence of shattered glass.

So he stole some water balloons and filled them up with paint (also stolen) and waited right above the door of the punk's hideout. And when the lead punk walked out he dumped the balloons on his head along with his goons heads and ran as fast as he could!

And to be fair he was really fast… just not faster than the punk’s motorcycles. So they grabbed him and beat him up. It’s fine though, Mikan will fix him up. His sister always does.

This sister, Mikan Tsumiki, is fourteen and will soon be starting her first year at Hope’s Peak as the next Ultimate Nurse. So he thinks he’s in pretty good hands when it comes to patching up injuries.

A lot of the time when Kokichi tells people that he and Mikan are related they just brush it off as another lie, something he’s pretty well known for at school. This is due to the fact that they have different surnames. But they are siblings, half siblings to be more specific. The classic case of “the sister from the other mister”. Same mom, different dads.

As Kokichi approaches the rundown apartment building he calls home, he whips out a bobby pin from his pocket and starts to pick the lock to door 11037 as he wipes off the blood pooling under his nose. Their mom never gave him or Mikan a key so he picked up a new skill to get in and out of the building as he pleased.

Kokichi swings the door open and steps inside the apartment. Closing the door and locking it on his way in. Taking his shoes off and heading down the hall, he finds Mikan sitting on the couch filling out some paperwork for the start of term at her high school.

“Hey Mikan! I’m Baaaaaaack!” Kokichi cheers from the entrance to the hall.

She looks up from the paperwork and gasps.
“Kokichi!” She bolts up from her seat, sending papers flying and rushes over to an injured Kokichi standing in the doorway.

“You’re h-hurt!” She stammered, grabbing his arm lightly and dragging him over to their small kitchen table and lightly discarding him in a chair before rushing to get the med-kit from under the sink.

“Yes, I guess I am. Very observant of you to point it out.” Kokichi jokes with an impish smile on his face.

“Kokichi, j-just a t-thought, but maybe you s-shouldn’t joke about s-stuff l-like this.” She says with a sigh

“Like what?” He asks with fake innocence.

“L-like a-all of t-this.” Mikan shudders out while gesturing to all of Kokichi as she takes a seat next to him and begins to clean his many newly acquired cuts and bruises, along with patching up his bloody nose with a tissue.

“Ah!” Kokichi gasps with a look of fake hurt on his face “I can’t believe my dear sister would make a jab at me like this!”

In a rare moment of sarcasm, Mikan rolls her eyes. Very much used to Kokichi's flair for the dramatic and his compulsive lying.

“H-How did this h-happen a-anyway?” Mikan asks

“I fell off the top of Tokyo Tower and did five backflips on the way down, but sadly didn’t stick the landing.” Kokichi said as crocodile tears started to collect on his lashes.

“R-really?” Mikan questions skeptically.

“Nope.” Kokichi says as he pops the “p” with a smile. “It’s a lie!” He giggles

Mikan just gives him a fond smile as she finishes putting on the last bandage.

Just then the pair hear the click of the lock on the door turning as their mother walks in and down the hall. Looking down at then this mild discuss.

“Well don’t just stare like some deers in headlights, both of you get started on my and your father's dinner.” She orders.

They set to work cooking, setting aside a little rice and curry for themselves, otherwise they’d be going to bed hungry again because their parents are stingy as hell. Just as they finished setting the table, Mr.Tsumiki arrived at the apartment and took his place at the table.

Yes, you heard right. Mr. Tsumiki came home, not Mr.Oma. For some reason after Mom had Mikan she ended up divorced her husband, then had me (Kokichi), and when her second husband left her one day to get the milk and never come back, she thought it would be a good idea to remarry her first husband.
Aka Mr.Tsumiki.

Because situations like that never lead to an unhappy home life.

So the rest of the families last name is Tsumiki while Kokichi's last name is Oma. He could change it to fit in with the rest of the family if he wanted, but Kokichi Tsumiki just didn’t have the same ring to it as Oma did.

Not like he wants to be associated with any of the Tsumiki except for his sister anyway.

Kokichi and Mikan are cleaning up dinner in silence when they hear a knock on the door. They turn to look at each other, both equally puzzled.

Who the heck would be knocking on the door of this dump at 8:40 at night, Kokichi thinks to himself

But by the look on Milan’s face she seems to be thinking something along the same lines.

They both make their way over to the door and Mikan looks through the peephole to see who it is, because Kokichi is too short to see through the hole.

When she steps back for the hole she looks at Kokichi with confusion. “There’s n-not some DND e-event g-going on n-nearby is t-there?” She asks.

Kokichi thinks for a moment before answering. “Not that I know of. Why?”

“W-well it’s j-just… t- the people o-outside are dressed rather s-strangely.”

Ok, well now Kokichi got to get a good look at them. He quickly undoes the lock and opens the door.

And well, Mikan wasn’t wrong. These people are dressed like something out of lord of the rings. In front of him stands an old man with long silver hair, dressed in long bluish-gray robs and a pair of crescent moon shaped glasses sitting on his nose. To the man’s left stands a tall, strict looking lady with her hair tied back in a bun. This wore an emerald green witch hat with matching robes. Finally to the man’s right stood a thin man with sallow skin, shoulder length and a hooked nose, dressed completely in black.

“Hello?” Kokichi says to the trio

“Hello there, are you perhaps Kokichi Oma?” The man with crescent shaped glasses asks in english.

Oh
Well, luckily for them Kokichi actually knows english, he learned it so that he could talk to Mikan with their parents not being able to understand what they were saying, but she never picked up the language as well as him so they still spoke mainly in japanese.

“That depends who’s asking.” Kokichi said in perfect english.

“Oh you speak english, this will make things a lot easier.” The man who spoke before stats, pleasantly surprised. “ And to answer your question young man, my name is Dumbledore, the two next to me are Professor McGonagall and Professor Snape, now may we have your name?”

Kokichi eyes then suspiciously, contemplating his answer. “I’m Kokichi Oma, now what do you three want?”

Was this rude? Yes. Are these people some of the strangest and most suspicious people Kokichi ever met? Also yes.

Kokichi can hear the man in black, Snape, click his tongue to the roof of his mouth, probably to show his dislike of Kokichi disrespect before Dumbledore speaks up again.

“ We are here to inform you that you have been accepted into Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry, should you choose to attend. Normally we would send you a letter, but you are a bit of an unusual case. Are your parents home? I think it’s best we all sit down and discuss the details in private.”

Kokichi turned to look at Mikan, who matched his look of confusion, with a quick nod she went down the hall to get their mom as Kokichi led the three, Wizards? To the couch. When Kokichi turns around Dumbledore casts a quick language spell so that both parties will be able to understand each other.

Not a minute later their mom was seated in an armchair across from the trio while Kokichi and Mikan squeezed into a loveseat off to the side.

“Hello Mrs.Oma” Dumbledore starts “do yo-”

“Tsumiki.” Kokichi mom stats

“Excuse me?”

“I remarried, Kokichi simply kept his fathers surname.”

“Oh, I see.” Dumbledore said, sharing a quick look with his colleagues before continuing. “ Well then, Mrs.Tsumiki, do you know why we’re here this evening?”

“No.” She answered bluntly.

“Well then please allow us to introduce ourselves. I am Albus Dumbledore, headmaster of Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. My two colleagues here are professors Minerva McGonagall and Severus Snape.

“School of what?!” question

“It is a school for young witches and wizards like your son madam” McGonagall says, speaking for the first time since all this began. Kokichi notes that she has a bit of a Scottish accent.

Where is this school exactly?, he thinks to himself.

“My son, a wizard? This is ridiculous.” Mrs.Tsumiki states.

“Tell me, Mrs.Tsumiki has anything odd happened to or around Kokichi, something you could never really explain.” Snape asks, and well, Kokichi thinks this man sounds miserable. Are his students torturing him or something?

Mrs.Tsumiki lightly shakes her head up and down. Well that’s not surprising. She thinks everything Kokichi does is weird, like when he swung a frying pan around like he was Rapunzel after him and Mikan watched the localized version of Tangled for the first time.

Ok, maybe that’s not the best example, but he was six and it looked really cool in the movie.

“This is because he is a wizard with untrained magic” Dumbledore continued “most young witches and wizards receive a letter form a wizardry school when they turn eleven, but the wizardry school of japan had a mishap last year with delivery and not all of the letters got to their destination.”

Dumbledore pauses to let the information sink in before continuing.

“They have asked us to take the four students who didn’t receive a letter to Hogwarts in Britain at the start of term this year to start an exchange program, they hope this will help with student population and international relations. Since Mr.Oma will be starting late and would have to travel quite a aways for school all of his school supplies along with rods and an owl will be paid for by Hogwarts.”

“So you're saying for this first year you’ll take him off our hands and pay for everything?” Mrs.Tsumiki asks.

“Yes, along with a room at the Leaky Cauldron for him to stay at, a week before the start of term if need be.” McGonagall stats.

“Then take him as soon as you can, I’ll call his school and let them know he won’t be attending this year.”

“Don’t you maybe want to discuss this with your husband?” Snape asks surprise.

“No need, he’ll be fine with it. Plus I’m sure Kokichi is just ecstatic to be attending.” Mrs.Tsumiki stats.

On that note all eyes in the room turn to look at Kokichi. He plastered on a grin, showing this pearly white.

“Oh yeah! I’d love to go.” He says, eyes fill with excitement.

The trio nods their heads.
“Well then, we’ll have Snape here come pick you up in two days to take you shopping for school supplies. Please make sure to pack accordingly.” Then Dumbledore looks at him and smiles with a twinkle in his eye “We look forward to seeing you at Hogwarts come September, Mr.Oma.”

With that Mikan leads them to the door as he and his mom sit in their living space. Neither saying a word. Kokichi goes to bed that night with a lot on his mind, to start with he really doesn’t want to go to this “Hogwarts”, because then he has to leave Mikan behind. At least before he’d see her after school. Now they’re going to be a whole ocean apart. Be if Kokichi’s anything, he’s a liar, and he knew saying no wasn’t an option back there.

“What have I gotten myself into?”, is the last thing he thinks before falling into the blissful abyss of sleep.
