Chapter 6
Hushed voices were what woke Remus up. That and the pain in his… well everything.
“We need to get him to a hospital.” Fleamont, Remus thought.
“No, I am perfectly cable of taking care of him myself.” Euphemia.
“Mum look at him!” James? It didn’t sound like James.
Why was he here? Flashes of the last few days came rushing back. The letter, James coming to see him, Euphemia and oh.
Sirius.
The voices suddenly stopped. It helped a bit with his headache. He still felt like he was high though. Wait, why did the voices stop?
“Moony?”
He opened his eyes slowly. The sight of Sirius’ worried appearance came up instead of the darkness. James and his parents were also there, but he didn’t really care about them at the moment. He wanted to touch Sirius. To see if he was actually there and that he was okay. Merlin what did they give him.
He tried to lift his arm, but he couldn’t. Not even a second later he felt a cold hand in his.
He closed his eyes again.
-
It turns out the wolf didn’t like the fact it was alone again, and Remus, of course, felt the consequences. It had been 2 days lying in bed, doing absolutely nothing. He had books, and sometimes James, but otherwise, absolutely nothing to do. Euphemia made him stay at least a day more in bed. Even though Remus was so bored he still wasn’t looking forward to getting out of the room. Because he remembers the whole ‘Sirius situation’.
An hour or so later, Euphemia, or Effie, as she insisted, made her last checks, and let him go.
“The boys are in James’ room. You can go up to them or to your own room, you decide my dear.” She smiled kindly at him. He wondered if she knew what Sirius had done.
So now he had to choose between being alone, which he really did not fancy, or being around Sirius.
Originally, he had decided to be by himself, sulking, but when he heard James and Sirius’ voices he stopped. He couldn’t make it out what they were saying but he wanted to be a part of something again. That and he kind of wanted to see him.
So instead of walking away he knocked.
The muffled voices stopped and James' ‘Come in’ was heard. He took a breath and opened. They were sitting on the bed, leaning up against the wall and they looked quite shocked. Sirius more than James. James quickly came over it and smiled widely.
“Moony! Why didn’t you tell you were free to go?” He quickly got up and made room for him to sit. Remus paused when he noticed. James made room for him next to Sirius. He realized and he made a little ‘oh’ sound.
Then it was Sirius who got up, “I’ll go then.” He muttered. He was looking down at his feet, but Remus could clearly see the hurt smeared across his face.
Without thinking Remus grabbed his wrist. It was the first time they had touched each other since 'the prank'. Sirius looked up, his greyish eyes looking directly at him. At first, he was startled but then his eyes softened. After looking into each eyes for what felt like an eternity, James coughed. That startled Remus and he looked up at him and with a raised eyebrow.
James was staring with an amused smirk. Rolling his eyes Remus realized he was very much still holding Sirius’ wrist. Almost within an instant he dropped his wrist. He looked up and saw Sirius still staring. He couldn’t read him though. It was probably for the fact he almost hadn't talked to him for 4 months or something.
-
The following days went by in a blur. Remus wouldn’t say him and Sirius were on speaking terms just yet, but they were making progress. Sirius didn’t push him when Remus needed space and Remus was starting to open up to him again. They were never alone and that was fine with him. Really.
He wasn’t dumb though. After everything he finally began to notice how much Sirius really looked at him and how much love he looked at him with. It made Remus’ inside all twitchy.
For an example when they ate breakfast every time Remus would look up at him, he found him already looking. Sirius didn’t even look away whenever he would get caught, he just looked for an extra second before sending a small smile his way.
It was driving him insane.
-
One particularly warm night was driving Remus mad. He wasn’t able to fall asleep until late in the night, but not long after he woke up in cold sweat from a nightmare. He tried to fall asleep again but quickly gave up when his entire body felt like moving. He did end up walking out of the house and out to the field.
“Remus?”
That made him jump. The paranoia from his dream made everything a bit scary. He took out his wand prepared for anything, then he turned around.
“Shit, Sirius.” He let out a breath and lowered his wand.
“Are you okay?” He was holding back a laugh and Remus hated him. He hated how much he had missed his stupidly beautiful laugh. Remus tried not to smile himself.
“Yeah, dumb dream, needed air.” He explained. And what the fuck. Sirius little smile turned into a concerned frown. Remus cursed himself, why would he say that.
“Come with me,” Sirius said, looking hesitant, like he was scared Remus wouldn’t follow him. Remus, the idiot he was, followed, of course.
They walked around the house towards a little barn, the sky sparkling down at them. When they reached the barn Sirius took a chair, standing nearby and jumped up onto the roof. Remus raised an eyebrow at him, was he supposed to do the same or? When Sirius looked down at him, he rolled his eyes and waved his hand at him as a sign for him to come up to him. Remus rolled his eyes back at him, but he did end up jumping up to him.
When Remus got up to him, Sirius laid down on his back, looking up at the stars. Remus did the same.
After some minutes Remus could feel Sirius looking at him. Remus couldn’t help but smile. When Sirius still hadn't looked away after a few minutes Remus took a small breath and turned his head towards him. Big mistake.
Sirius was looking at him with so much love. Remus felt his cheeks heat up and he turned away. Another mistake. He could almost feel his grin. Sirius rolled closer and was now so close to him, that if Remus moved his arm, he would touch him. He didn’t.
“Look at me,” he begged. It sounded so different from the last time he had said those words. He said it with a smile in his tone. “please?” Remus did.
“Hi,” He said softly. Sirius grinned widely, but there was something else in his smile too. He looked scared somehow. Scared Remus would leave him. Remus looked back up to the sky until Sirius’ hand brushed a strand of hair away from his eyes.
“Pads…” He sighed
“God Moony, I’ve- I missed you so much.” His normally strong confident voice now seemed to be at its breaking point. Remus felt tears sting in his eyes too. It didn’t take much time for Remus to pull him in. Sirius was now lying half on top of him, one hand in his hair, the other grabbing his shirt. Remus was hugging him into his chest and let go of a few tears himself.
James found them early in the morning, looking a bit confused but overall happy.
