Note
Welcome to my new one-shot! I decided to put this into 12 parts/chapters, as it is long with a few time skips, which kind of made me do it. So sorry for the trouble, but I believe it would be better to read it this way. Have fun!

What now?

Charlotte’s POV

Thursday came sooner than expected, but I was so giddy about it. Today was the day when we will know for sure our bet results. Hopefully, Lizzie was right, and they didn’t study… But there is still something fishy about it. But here we go, and we decided to go through this, even if there might be a punishment for our choices. At least I won't be in this mess alone, I sighed when my test said 87%. Now go to Lizzie and ask her about her score. “Mine is 85%,” my Slytherin friend sighs, “but I guess they score under 80,” she brightens at her own word. But not so later the world crushes both of us. The Twins come flying to us with their papers in their hands. “89% and 86%! And that means….” They laugh. “175 against 172! We won, Fred!” George calculates quickly after seeing our papers and hugs his older brother tightly. “H-how?” asks mortified Lizz. “Well, we really wanted to win, so studying was worth it,” Fred smiled with his big non-cocky smile almost as big as his more kind-hearted brother, who was now studying my expression. I could not believe that this was happening. “Now, as you may know, we’ve told you, we will tell you what we wanted as our prize before the Quidditch match. Obviously, it’s tomorrow-“ “How convenient,” sighs Lizzie already prepared to fight for me, us, or flight with me. Us. “We want for you two to wear-“ “Our jerseys,” the last part they say together while pulling out of their bags their red and gold jerseys. George handed me down his with the bright yellow number 6, while Lizzie got Fred’s with the number 5. “W-we need to wear this… to the match between Gryffindor and Ravenclaw?” I ask a little out of breath as I never thought I could wear something his, but- “We will look like your girlfriends,” I add still not comprehending what is happening. Lizzie just stays frozen, looking at the jersey in her hands. “Well, yeah, we hope you will be cheering on us,” smiles innocently Geroge at me, which makes me blush. Why would he… give me his jersey? Wanting me to go to his match with it when there would probably be a queue of girls wanting it? Why it would be me? “Eliz, you okay there?” adds George after a quick check on the girl beside me and his uncommonly quiet brother. Lizzie seems to snap out of it but doesn’t say anything as she slaps Fred’s cheek and then sprints away. “Lizzie!” I shout surprised just as the other two. Fred's looks would make me laugh any other day as he was so confused and rubbing his cheek, but I didn’t have time. “Sorry guys, my friend needs me, see you around. Also, I don’t think she would back out of the deal, so don’t worry, we will be there,” I smile at them. “Hurry up, or you will lose her,” nods George at me. “I’ve never seen her like this,” said in a hushed voice Fred to his twin as I ran away. Fred probably wanted to tease Lizzie and as I’m her friend, George gave me his jersey so I didn’t feel omitted. That must be it.

I found Lizzie at our meeting place. Kitchen. She was there, sitting on the chair, back to the entrance. Her shoulders moved up and down. Is she crying? “Lizzie?” I call her name gently. “Is everything okay?” I ask still softly. There is no answer, but after a few seconds, she shakes her head. “N-no,” she answers with a crooked voice as I get to her. “Wanna talk about it?” Another shaking of her head. “So, hot cocoa?” She laughs a little, “That would be great.” At that, I requested from one elf two cups, which they delivered with biscuits. “I don’t even know why I did that,” Lizzie confesses to me after a while. “I just… reacted. I’m so confused. Why would they want that from us? They could have asked anything, and this is what they came up with?” she shakes her head, clutching Fred’s jersey in her hands on her lap. “I… I get that, because I ask myself the same question,” I sigh, “and… and I too don’t know how to feel about this situation. I don’t want to give myself… the false hope, you know? I really like the twins, they made these few months so much better as you did, I have so much fun, but… We will honestly look like their girlfriends, which we aren’t, and… that confuses me,” I rant, and she laughs. “Yeah, many girls are going to be killing us with their stares,” she nods. “As for the false hope, I think you have a good chance to get together with George,” she seems to be thinking. “Wanna hand?” Her question did surprise me. “How?” I don’t know if I should say yes, but the way her eyes sparkled made me shift in my seat. “Let’s just say, that we do…”
