Lisa kneels down next to Rob and puts two fingers on his neck to check his pulse. She finds a weak pulse that means he is alive and only unconscious.
She looks up to her girlfriend, who is still completely shocked and seems to be beside herself.
"He is still alive", says she calmly to her, so that she knows she didn't kill him, even though to be honest she pushed him very lightly.
How should she know he would fall over the railing like that? Maybe she did push him with much more force than she intended.
Carla was still pretty weak from the kidney transplantaion but was very angry when Rob told her that Lisa, her Lisa, her girlfriend, the love of her life, might be dead, that he had killed her.
The Detective Sergeant takes the gun from him and cuffs him to the railing, so that he can not escape in case he wakes up before her colleagues are here to bring him back to the jail where he belongs. Luckily, she carries some handcuffs with her.
After Lisa made sure that Rob was really cuffed to the railing, she grabs the car keys from his pocket and she rushes up the stairs and takes her girlfriend into her arms.
Carla sobs and clings at the blonde woman. She can't believe that her girlfriend is really here, that she is really alive.
"He told me you were dead. I thought I have lost you", says the older woman in a broken voice between sobs and buries her head in her girlfriend's neck.
Lisa's heart breaks into thousand pieces when she hears that.
She gently pulls Carla's head back, so that they can look in each other’s eyes.
"I told you, I'm going nowhere", says she softly and places a hand on Carla's cheek and strokes the soft, tear-soaked skin with her thumb.
Carla closes her eyes as she leans into Lisa's touch.
"I love you", whispers she and opens her eyes to look at her girlfriend.
"I love you too", replies the Detective Sergeant and gives her girlfriend a kiss on the lips.
Suddenly the couple hears that Rob is waking up.
Swain puts her hand away from Carla's cheek but she keeps her other arm around her waist.
They both lean over the railing to watch how he wakes up.
The criminal blinks his eyes open and is at first confused where the hell he is. And then he remembers that his sister pushed him over the railing and now he lying at the bottom of the stairs.
He tries to move his right hand but it's not possible because his wrist his cuffed to the railing of the stairs.
Wait a moment, there is actually only one person who could cuff him to the railing. But that's not possible. She is dead, or is she?
He looks up to where Carla stands but she is not alone.
"Oh, you are alive", says Rob after he sees the blonde copper right next to his sister.
He honestly thought she was dead, that he killed. The way he hit her head multiple times it wouldn't be a surprise.
"Yes, I am alive. It takes more than a few hits to finish me", says Lisa and doesn't let go of her girlfriend.
Carla whimpers a little as she thought that her girlfriend was dead. When Lisa hears that, she turns her head and gives her a kiss on the forehead.
"Why did you cuff me to the railing?" asks Rob and tries to free his hand, but it's impossible.
Lisa looks at him like he is stupid. "So that you won't escape because I checked your pulse and knew you weren’t dead", explains the Detective Sergeant.
"Did you forget that I recorded our conversation about our little deal that you help me escape in exchange for my kidney to save Carla's life? You could lose your precious job with what you said to me, what you promised me. I'm pretty sure something like that doesn't look good for a copper. You could even go to jail for helping a prisoner escape", says he and laughs.
He is pretty sure that he ruined her career and her good reputation.
"You are wrong because I recorded our conversation as well. Even with more details than you did", says Lisa with a smirk.
Rob stops laughing and looks shocked to the copper. He didn't notice that she also recorded it. How the hell did she do that without him noticing it?
"Did you really think I was that stupid? That I would just make a deal like that without securing myself with a recording, so that my colleagues know everything?"
Not that they think she would ever do something like that and help him escape voluntarily or at all for that matter. And besides, they would believe her more than a criminal.
Then Rob realizes something. "You never wanted to fulfill our deal, you never wanted to help me escape." It's not a question, it's a statement.
"No, of course not. I played along and lied to you. I just wanted your kidney to safe Carla's life, nothing more", admits Lisa and shrugs with her shoulders.
She would do anything for Carla, even make such a deal with a murderer to get a kidney for her. Besides, she never planned to keep her word about this deal. She wanted his kidney and played along the whole time to get it.
"You are a murderer and you belong in jail for the rest of your pathetic life. You will rot in jail. But thank you for saving my girlfriend. By the way, you hit like a little girl", says Lisa in a cold voice.
She definitely doesn’t want to give him the satisfaction of knowing that his punches hurt her a lot.
The copper turns her attention fully to her girlfriend and sees a red bloody spot where the surgical suture is. The stitches from the recent operation must have torn open. Carla needs immediately go back to the hospital.
"Come on we need to get you back to the hospital", says she softly and grabs Carla.
Lisa supports her weak girlfriend and helps her down the stairs.
Arriving at the bottom of the stairs where Rob is still lying, Carla can't even look at his brother. She honestly thought for a second that he would change. But he just disappointed her. She was wrong about him, he will never change. And on top of that he kidnapped her and almost killed the love of her life.
"Hey, you are just gonna leave me here?!" shouts Rob as the blonde woman and his sister walk through the door.
"Don’t worry, you won't be alone for long. My colleagues are soon here and they bring you back where you belong", says the blonde woman without turning back to the pathetic man on the floor.
She doesn't care about him. Her number one priority is to get Carla back to the hospital as quickly as possible.
They walk to the car and Lisa opens the passenger door with her free hand.
"You are in no condition to drive, Lisa", protests the factory owner as her girlfriend helps her into the car.
"I'm in a better condition than you, Carla", argues Lisa back and shuts the door after her girlfriend sits on the passenger seat.
Carla is too weak and tired to continue arguing, she just rests her head against the window.
The nightmare is finally over and Lisa will make sure that Rob gets put in a prison as far from them as possible.
It turns out Lisa has a concussion thanks to Rob's blows to her head. She needs to stay overnight for observation. Well, it's a good thing she didn't want to go home because she doesn’t want to leave her girlfriend alone.
