Chapter 14

Klaus makes his way back to the party for a few more drinks before he would go retrieve the book once more.

"So, what happened?" Marcel asks as Klaus reaches him, Kol leans against the wall and watches the interaction.

Insufferable fools. How blind were they. Bursting into her room then raving about bets. Did it not occur to them how odd it was for Rebekah and Caroline to be anything like civil, let alone comfortable in each other's presence.

"I don't know." Klaus answers immediately.
"Oh come on," Kol whines.
"Shut it. And be bloody grateful,"
"For what?" Kol scoffs, rolling his eyes at his older brother.
"I am rejoining the quidditch team,"
"Fuck, don't tell me you want captaincy,"
"I'll let it go this once. We all know you follow my lead anyway," Klaus says, patting Marcel on the back and walking towards the party, both boys walking beside him.

"How do I break it to Jesse though?"
"Get Caroline to, she knows how to woo people," Kol suggests immediately.
"Absolutely not." Klaus says, glaring at Kol.
Marcel snorts, "Maybe I just tell him that since he replaced you and you want to come back he is back in reserve until next year."

"Whatever you want is fine," Klaus says.
"Why are you coming back?" Kol says, glancing at him curiously.

"I need a drink first," Klaus responds, entering the party and making his way over to the drinks table.
"Have you seen Caroline?" He hears from behind him.
Turning, Klaus sees a frantic Bonnie talking to Kol.
"Why?" Klaus says before he can answer and tell them where she is.

"Tyler said someone hit her in the back with a spell and she started having these weird delusions. I need to make sure she is fine." Bonnie says, pressing her hands against her chest.

"Really?" Kol says, his eyebrows darting up in surprise.

Lying bitch. I'll fucking strangle him.

"Perhaps Lockwood is lying," Klaus suggests casually.

"Why would he lie about something this serious?" Bonnie snaps.
"Maybe she wasn't having delusions, maybe he is covering his tracks."
"What the fuck are you suggesting mate," Tyler says, approaching them from behind Bonnie.

Klaus immediately puts his cup down and pushes off the table, standing to his full height and looking down at Tyler.
"I wasn't suggesting anything," he snarls.

Tyler doesn't back down, and instead tries to punch Klaus. Stepping back, Klaus easily dodges the attempted assault.

"You're drunk," he says, giving the boy a look of disgust.

"How much have you drank?" Bonnie asks frantically.
"None of your fucking business. Now I'm going to go find my girlfriend."

After watching him walk far enough away, Klaus turns to Bonnie and says, "I know where she is,"
"What?"
"She is safe."
"Where is she?"
"I don't think she needs people right now,"
"Caroline hates being alone,"
"I know, and she isn't alone."

Bonnie scrunches her nose up at him and out of the corner of his eye, Klaus and see Kol smile softly at her.
"Are you sure she is safe,"
"I wouldn't put her in a position where she wasn't,"

Bonnie sighs, knowing she has to take what she can get from him.

"If a single thing happens to her, I will hunt you down and tear you to pieces." she snarls.
Then she points to Kol, "and if you try to stop me I will do the same to you,"
"I already swore I would never disagree with you,"

She narrows her eyes but accepts the answer and turns around to reassure Elena.

Believe me witch, if a single thing happened to her, I would give you my most painful knife to kill me with.

He picked up his drink once more and walked over to Marcel who was flirting with girls in the corner.

"Marcellus,"
"Oh hey Klaus," Hayley says, giving his suit half a glance.
"Hayley," he says, nodding his head slightly to acknowledge her.

"Where's Rebekah gone?" she asks and Klaus almost groans in frustration.

Why in merlins name is everyone so annoying.

"In her dorm," Marcel says before he can stop himself, "But she is trying to sleep.
"It's fine, I'll wake her," she says casually, walking out of the room.

Klaus sends him a glare, recieving an apologetic shrug in return.
Walking out of the hall, Klaus follows Hayley.

"Need something?" Hayley calls over her shoulder.
"You shouldn't bother her,"
"Why not,"
"I can't tell you,"
"Then I'm not listening."
"Hayley."

She turns to face him, trying to read his face.

"Did something happen to Rebekah?"
"Not to Rebekah, she is fine."
Hayley smirks at him, "Caroline?"

Klaus falters, shock making its way onto his face.
"How did you know?"
"I didn't know it was her. But you were concerned, and Beks told me all about your little crush a few years ago. I thought you grew out of that."

Klaus glances away, "Just leave them be,"
"What happened to her?"
"It isn't my place to stay,"
"I'll ask her then, and you can't stop me."

I could, the question is whether it is worth it.

With a frustrated grunt, Klaus turns away and walks toward the library, Caroline would probably want to read about some history of fashion and eras for her next party. He knew she was planning this one before the year had even started.

Perhaps he could encourage her to host a more formal event. Maybe she would wear blue.

He picked out a thick leather book about party charms from the restricted section, glancing over his shoulder to make certain no one was there.

Perhaps I could lend her a family dress, she would look stunning in a Mikaelson piece.

Tucking the book under his arm he slips out of the restricted section and leaves the library.

He makes his way down to the dungeons quickly.

Perhaps Caroline would like to read through the rest of the charms book once he had finished memorising the spells. She appreciates learning, Rebekah just wants to be cool and will probably share the spells with everyone. Which completely defeats the point.

He knocks softly on Rebekahs door and Hayley opens it, looking him up and down with annoyance.

"Hayley, move." he snarls and she shakes her head.

"No, hand the book over and leave."
"Not happening,"

They both glare at each other and Klaus is ready to push her out of the way when Caroline calls from inside.

"Is that Klaus?"
"Yes, love," he responds.
"He can come in, it's fine,"
He smirks and pushes past Hayley, holding the book out for Caroline.

Her eyes widen, "Where is that from? I haven't seen it before."
"Restricted section, may I have my charms book back,"
"Sure, but sit down. I want you to explain one of the theories to me. None of us understand it."
"Anything you need love," he says, as he sits on the edge of the bed.

"This one, I don't understand the Luminae Umbralis Charm. It says it manipulates ambient magical energy to create a localised field of darkness. But I don't under the theory behind creating the field of darkness."
"See that is because you need to sunchronise your magical aura with your surroundings, which requires knowledge from a charm further into the book. It is called the Auralink Ensyncara, it requires an understanding of magical resonance." he says softly, flipping through the pages in the book to show her.

"Have you ever used one of these spells before?"
"I have used multiple,"
"Which ones?"

If only you knew.

"Shadowmeld, it allows you to blend into the shadows. Shadowstep egress, which allows you to travel through shadows. There was also Nebula whisper, which is supposed to turn normal speech to whispering to anyone unaware but I mostly use it to make Kol quiet."

"Aren't some of those darker spells,"

He brushes some hair out of her face and closes the book.

"There is a lot of dark spells Caroline, the important is knowing how to differentiate the dangerous ones from the harmless ones."

She nods and leans against him as she pulls the party charms book towards her and opens it.
