Day 24- tradition- Jegulus
“Wake up,” Regulus jumps, getting torn out of his peaceful sleep by a harsh whisper directly in his ear. His hand darts out before he can even open his eyes, hitting the culprit with a satisfying thud and jumping up on his bed.
“Ow fuck,” James falls backwards, clutching his cheek and looking at Regulus dumbfounded. Regulus, now slightly more alert and feeling more than guilty jumps up, holding his hands flat out in front of him.
“Oh shit I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to,” Regulus apologises, his face morphing into one of confusion when James just smiles at him dreamily, “Did you seriously enjoy that?”
“Do you want the actual answer?” Regulus just sighs at James’ response, using his shoulder to jump down off of the bed, pressing a kiss to his cheek before disappearing into the en-suite.
When he re-enters his room, James is perched on the edge of the bed, his cheek showing no sign it was ever punched. Regulus moves in front of James, grabbing James’ chin to tilt his face so he can inspect the damage.
“Are you okay?”
“Perfect,” James whispers, staring up at Regulus in a way that should be considered dangerous, Regulus can actually feel his heart beating so hard it could burst. James reaches a hand up, tucking a loose curl back and leaning up to kiss Regulus.
“It was my fault anyway,” James laughs as they separate, pulling Regulus down to sit, “i’m sorry for scaring you like that.”
“Why did you want me up so early?” Regulus groans, gesturing to the alarm clock on the bedside table before flopping his head down onto James’ shoulder. “It’s not even 5am yet,”
“It’s tradition!” James exclaims like it makes this a reasonable time to be awake.
“Can’t we just follow my traditions, pretend we don’t exist until dinner time when we emerge for our rooms just long enough to eat,” Regulus mumbles into James’ shoulder, drifting off to sleep again already,
“Just for an hour or so and then we can go back to sleep, I promise,”
“Only because it’s your birthday,” Regulus stretches and rubs the sleep out of his eyes, turning to James with wide eyes upon his realisation,
“Oh, I punched you on your birthday,” He breathes out, a new wave of guilt washing over him filling him with the urge to beg for forgiveness. James doesn’t seem to care, grabbing Regulus and pulling him closer, kissing him before whispering in his ear like it’s a secret,
“Maybe that can be a new part of the tradition, hm?”
