So this is Christmas
Summary
I am doing my own December writing challenge! I will be writing short one-shots based on 31 prompts with multiple ships and platonic/sibling relationships this month and I've decided to post them. These are also being posted on my Tumblr
Note
I am technically starting this a day late so prompts 1 and 2 are being posted today, obviously, I am hoping to update this every day but I also might just upload like 5 on a Friday. I will be writing about multiple ships but idk who I will be writing about until I write each prompt so the tags will be updated as I go, I highly doubt any prompt will make me write a lot so most will be short.I will put the prompt and the ship in each title :) hope you enjoy!

Day 11- gingerbread. Dorlene and Jegulus

“You’re going down Potter!” Marlene declares, glaring at them from the other side of the kitchen. With how seriously she’s taking this, you would think it was life and death, but no, it’s just an annual gingerbread house-making and decorating challenge.

“Yeah you’d like that, wouldn’t you?” James glares back, the two of them forgetting they were ever friends, ready to fight if that becomes necessary. “Well never!”

Regulus rolls his eyes, looking at Dorcas who appears to be questioning why she loves Marlene so much. Marlene and James have been friends since they were 4 years old, running into each other in the playground at school, throwing mud at each other and crashing toy trikes into each other.

They had been borderline inseparable, both begging their parents to play on the weekends, so their families had become close too. They had started this challenge when they were seven, and Effie had suggested they helped her decorate, the two of them were best friends but that didn’t mean they didn’t turn everything possible into a competition.

Their creativity had been encouraged, and it didn’t matter if it looked like a bomb had gone off in the kitchen afterwards, Effie would just wander in and laugh at the mess, pulling out cleaning materials and helping them return the kitchen to it’s former glory.
It also didn’t matter that their designs were… well they weren’t great, they were an explosion of icing and sprinkles, candy canes lopsidedly sliding down the roof and gingerbread figures haphazardly chucked on top. It was chaos, Regulus had seen the pictures. It had improved over the years but really, he couldn’t even tell what the criteria for a good gingerbread house was.

“Love can you come and hold this for a second,” Marlene called out to Dorcas, who immediately folded and went to help, even though she and Regulus had agreed they were staying out of this.

“Cheat!” James gasped dramatically, not taking his eyes off of his own creation.

“There’s no rule saying she can’t help!” Marlene counters, throwing a container of writing icing at James.

“Yes, there is!” James throws it back, hitting the back of Marlene’s head, “It’s supposed to be done on our own, that’s the whole point,”

“That is not the point, the point is I’m better than you and I like to prove it.”

“You’re better?” James scoffs, for some reason the two of them are very dramatic about this “I’m not the one getting my girlfriend to help me!”

“This is the most stupid argument the two of you have ever had,” Regulus chimes in from where he’s stood leaning against the doorframe, still watching in confusion,

“It definitely isn’t but it’s up there,” Dorcas adds in, sighing as she watches her girlfriend attack the gingerbread house with a furor she’s never seen before. It’s truly bizarre how passionate they are about these things.

“I think we should go,” Regulus speaks cautiously, “before they try to decorate us as well.”

Dorcas laughs and leaves her place next to Marlene, following Regulus through the door into the safety of the living room, ignoring the protests behind them and the clanging around that should not come from something as simple as decorating a gingerbread house.
