Chapter 17: You and I, In detention
Inevitably the two boys found themselves in detention. By now the rest of the school had returned from the holiday break and the hustle and bustle of Hogwarts life was truly back in full swing. Along with this came their week of detention. To Harry this was a normal occurrence, hell if there was a detention loyalty card Harry would have a full card of stamps. But he acknowledged that for Louis this was all new and scary, so he did his best to make it less daunting for him.
“Don’t worry Lou Flitwicks the supervisor and he always falls asleep 10 minutes in” Harry whispered as they were walking into detention and finding their seats.
As Harry was scanning the room he noticed the familiar heads of blonde and brunette hair.
“Niall, Liam?” He called out
The two boys turned their heads quickly and motioned the boys over. When he reached them Harry patted them both on the back.
“What are you doing here lads?” He asked
Niall mumbled something under his breath and Liam looked like he was about to burst into fits of giggles.
“Nialler here got caught shagging a girl behind the quidditch stands” he managed to get out before erupting into laughter
Harry made a disgusted face and made a show of poking his tongue out.
“YUCK NIALL, have some decorum mate” he joked
Niall rolled his eyes and diverted the detention onto Louis, who was standing quietly beside Harry, watching the interaction unfold.
“The better question is what are you doing here louis, I thought you were like a massive nerd? No offence.” Niall questioned
And although Louis had come to terms with his introduction into teenage delinquency Harry could tell he was on the verge of bursting into tears at the thought of retelling the situation. So he threw his arm around Louis and announced.
“Well we were just out and about you know lads doing laddy things because lads are cool and fucking filch decided to rain on the parade. It was all my idea though, as always, Lou here was just a bystander”
Harry looked down and smiled at Louis who was smiling back, a silent thank you evident in his eyes.
Just then professor Flitwick walked in and all the boys returned to their seats. The professor sluggishly took attendance and as promised fell asleep shortly after. As soon as he did the four boys restarted their previous conversation.
“Lads I’m hosting a party get together thing in the forbidden forest tonight. It's BYO you wanna come?” Liam whispered
“Hell yeah!” Niall responded happily
Of course Harry wanted to go, but to be honest he really didn’t want to if Louis wasn’t going to be there as well. He had never felt that before, the presence of another person was always an add on to his enjoyment; he had never NEEDED someone quite like he needed Louis. And so his instinct was to turn to the blue eyed lad in a silent ask for permission. And when he was meant with the twinkle in his eye and a slight smile he knew that they were good to go.
“Yeah of course lad what time? Also whyyyy? Like i know ur an alcoholic and all that but why the sudden plans” Harry joked
“Shut up!” Liam retaliated, punching his friends; shoulder playfully. “I don’t know we just haven’t hung out in ages and like it’s a back to school party you know.”
“Well I think it’s a great idea Liam, hey can I bring Zayn?” Louis reassured
At the mention of his name Harry’s smile faded a bit. He had never liked Zayn, and now, he felt like he was competing with him. It was silly, he knew. Louis was allowed to have friends that weren’t him of course but it still stung.
“Yeah, yeah of course I was gonna invite him anyways” Liam smiled
The boys continued to talk throughout the whole hour of detention and when the bell to signify their freedom, they went their separate ways, Liam and Niall off to Merlin knows where and Louis and Harry back to Louis’ dorm room, together.
