I was leading the new first years to the common room at the beginning of the year, praying that the riddle would be easy because I was tired and just wanted to get to bed.
I climbed the stairs and grabbed the brass eagle hanging on the door before it spoke. “Where do vanished things go?” It asked.
I groaned, why couldn’t it have been a simple one?
The first years looked at me expectantly as I glared at the knocker.
I pointed my wand at the door. “Why don’t I just make you vanish and you’ll find out?”
The eagle was silent for a moment before the door swung open. I stepped inside the common room, followed by the shocked first years. One of them, a small girl with short brown hair, approached me.
“I thought you were supposed to answer the riddles?” She said.
I avoided sighing, I just wanted to go to bed. “You are, as long as you say something that’s technically true, you can get in. There was a prefect last year who always responded with ‘Not a potato’. She got locked out once because the eagle asked her what french fries are made of.”
The little girl giggled at that and left to talk with her friends.
I yawned and headed up the stairs to my dorm.
