Accidental Pregnancy
It was several weeks after Lyra and Harry had had sex for the first time when the two fourteen year olds wound up in Madam Pomfrey’s office. The stern mediwitch gave the young couple a disapproving look. She had this conversation at least a dozen times a year with young couples who had wound up accidentally expecting, though this time was slightly different. She’d never had this conversation with a trans couple, though a few times she’d spoken with trans guys and their cis male partners. The situation was a bit more complicated and far more delicate.
It started three days ago when Harry’s period was late. The boy had thought it a blessing and ignored the potential pregnancy sign. The next morning and that very morning he’d been violently ill, unable to keep down any breakfast. Now at the urging of his friends, and after being practically dragged by his girlfriend he was horrified. Pregnant, he couldn’t be pregnant. He was too young and a boy to boot.
“How is this possible?” Harry asked sheepishly. “While Mr. Potter when someone with a penis ejaculates inside a person with a vagina--” Madam Pomfrey began explaining the mechanics to the red faced teens. “We know that,” Lyra insisted, “He means we thought our hormones would prevent it.” The matron nods apologetically, “While I did explain to you that your treatments decrease fertility, they are not birth control. I apologize if I was unclear or there was any confusion. In future, contraception is still recommended if you don’t want a pregnancy,” The mediwitch explained sternly, but still kind.
The two teens spent the next several seconds staring into each other's eyes as if silently discussing what to do next. After giving the young couple a minute to process their news, Madam Pomfrey interrupted their silence, “You have options,” she told them. The pair nodded, open to listening to her advice. “I’m not going to sugar-coat this. You were old enough to get yourselves into this situation, you are old enough to get yourselves out of it, however that might be. You have options; have the baby and raise it yourselves, have the baby and give it up for adoption, have the baby and see if your guardians Mr. Potter or your parents Ms. Malfoy will raise it, or have an abortion,” She told them frankly and unapologetically.
“You have time to decide, but there are some difficult changes you will have to make for however long you’re pregnant, Mr. Potter,” she added in a softer more concerned tone, “You are going to have to stop taking your hormone potions and if you continue with the pregnancy at some point you won’t be able to wear a binder,” She explained. Harry listened, feeling overwhelmed and a bit dejected, but mostly just unable to process the information.
Madam Pomfrey gave Harry a supply of anti-morning sickness potions as well as giving them each a copy of, “Magical Pregnancy and Your Magical Baby,”, and pamphlets with information on birth control, adoption, and abortion, before sending the two young teens on their way. “I’ll see you in two weeks to check on you and the baby, Mr. Potter,” the matron said in parting.
