Chapter 2
Tom didn't really want to talk to Severus, he was typically very quiet even without being in a new place. He unpacked his books, putting them in the bookshelf by his desk. He was used to the cold of the orphanage so that wasn't what was bothering him. He didn't want to be around anyone.
He curled up on his bed with his copy of Frankenstein, reading silently and trying to ignore Severus on the other side of the room. He wrapped the quilt around himself when he noticed Severus staring at the scars that went up his arms and legs. He had them as long as he could remember. The electric scar covered his left arm and shoulder blade.
"Anyone ever tell you it's rude to stare?" Tom glared at Severus and curled up tighter.
Severus rolled his eyes. "Curious what electrical socket you stuck a fork into."
Tom threw one of the pens he had in his bag at Severus. "I was born with them, dipshit." He was supposed to be nice but why should he play nice if Severus wasn't? It wasn't his fault his mother's magic backfired, scarring him and killing her when he was born.
He got off his bed and walked into the small bathroom attached to their room. He turned the water on for the shower and just sat under it for a minute. He grabbed some of the unscented shampoo and conditioner the school provided to wash his hair. Showers at the orphanage were always freezing and timed.
The hot water washed away the cobwebs, dust, and dried blood he got from his room and a fight from one of the other children. He had been forced to sleep in the very top room after accidently snapping a kid's femur with a burst of accidental magic. He didn't apologize for what he did, he didn't feel bad.
The kids and even adults called Tom a psychopath, but why should he have to feel bad when they tormented him first? He felt empty even when tormenting back, he hated it. No one else cared about him so he didn't really care about himself.
He got out of the shower once the water started getting cold. He got dressed in the bathroom before walking back to his bed. He got under the covers, not sleeping but wanting to avoid talking to his roommate again.
