Chapter 3

The following day, he woke up early thanks to his field clock which has never betrayed him. He went to the bathroom and quickly washed himself, smiling at his reflection in the mirror decided that coming back to town, meant coming back to his traditions.

He started looking for something in the bathroom drawers until he saw what he was looking for.

He grinned.

«I knew anyone had thrown away my eyeliner.»

Trying to look more compliant to the city life of London and to the professional world of work, he had decided to stop making up for himself, quitting like this an important part of his personality.

He was a rebel who decided to wear make-up at the age of nine just to fight his homotransphobic and misogynistic family which wanted to force him to be the perfect heir of their noble house.

And he hated all that stuff, so he decided to change things.

With make-up, he was saying goodbye to his determination, which was what made him come to live in London.

He was shivering when he started as if he was seeing someone he lost.

But going downstairs and hearing the soft voice of his mum talking Spanish with his dad, turned his temperament to happy.

«Hola Mama!»

«Buenos Dìas mijo, what do you want for breakfast?»

Sirius, who had spent the last four years on a diet because he didn’t have time for the gym, so it was the only way not to put on weight, swallowed the air.

«I can eat just fruits and vegetables at breakfast, is on my diet…»

«Sirius! You are so thin, you don’t need a diet, you need to eat!»

«Effie, I don’t have enough time for breakfast, I’ll take something from the Cafè near the municipal, it’s still there, isn’t it?»

«Yes, it is, but you have to take me a picture of you eating a croissant there.»

He rolled his eyes on but smiled at the woman. He missed his mother’s worries.

«I’ll do it, I swear. I love you, mama y perdoname si te llamè Effie!»

«I love you too, mijo»

Sirius quickly arrived at the Cafe, an old local coffee shop where he spent his entire childhood drinking smoothies with his mates, when life was just school and who you would go to the homecoming with.

The last thing, he was expected to see was there, or better, the last person.

Sirius glazed where he was and a few seconds stayed there.

Then, notifications on his smartwatch reminded him that he was late.

Trying to ignore the fact that the love of his life was comfortably sitting on a stool close to the counter, Sirius coughed, coming in front of the board.

«Could I have a milkshake and a croissant to take away, please?»

«Good Lord, are you really?»

Whispered the beautiful Mary Mcdonald, who shocked looked at him.

And he looked at him, too.

And Sirius’ world flipped over.

Those dark green eyes were looking at him, and he decided that he could have died now that he was able to look at them one more time.

He smiled.

«Of course am I! Did you miss me?»

«Yes, god, without you these guys are so boring.»

Sirius grinned.

«I can imagine, without me, how could something still be fun?»

«Hey, I’m still here!»

Mumbled Remus.

When he talked, Sirius instantly turned his head up and beamed.

«We know that.»

Remus smirked at him.

That fucking smile which made him fall in love.

Mary gave him the milkshake and the croissant and, with a wide smile on her lips, said.

«It’s free, a present on the house.»

«Honey, I love you so much, you know? I’d like to stay here and talk with you, but I must go. I’m in a hurry…»

«Where do you have to go? I thought you were on holiday…»

She asked, confused.

«I wish I was! I’m working and now I should be in the centre to meet probably an old man who is organizing the festival. Can you believe that someone wants to introduce a Christmas masked party? Just an elderly man who likes drinking tea in the afternoon and spends his free time playing bocce? »

Mary's expression muted in something particular as shock mixed with embarrassment.

She didn’t reply and looked at Remu, who had turned his smile into a pout.

«What’’s the problem with you? Why are you so shallow?»

«I’m not shallow!»

«Yes, you are as you have always been. But it just so happens that I am actually organizing this festival!»

Sirius was shocked, he just wanted to forget Remus and stay quiet just at the time of the job and after that come back to London.

But how could it have been possible if the main factor of his problems was there and had to work for the whole time with him?

God, it was a BIG problem.

He sighed and tried to stay quiet, as his therapist in London told him.

During those years in the capital of England, he chose to start therapy to solve his issues and work on his traumas.

It helped him with his impulsivity and trust issues.

Now he's able to control his emotions and doesn't feel like he had to change this ability.

“Sirius, remember, it's just work.”

«Cool, I've always said you are a grandpa, nothing new, right? ».

Remus murmured something.

«So, can we go together?»

«No, see you in a half-hour in the city centre, where there is the Municipal, as I told you at first.»

Sirius beamed, funnied.

«Why? Can't we go together?»

«No, we can't, I have other stuff to do…»

Then, Remus looked at Mary and smiled quickly, and went away from the shop.

«What's the problem with him?»

Mary moaned and put a hand on Sirius’ shoulder.

«You broke his heart, he was destroyed when you left…»

«But he's the one who decided to break up with me!»

«Good Lord, Sirius! You should know how proud he is. He was angry and you know how he is when he's angry. He doesn't think.»

It was right, as he had always had trust issues, Remus fought with so many angry problems and no way to communicate them.

He had no control and usually did actions, he would have never done in a normal situation.

Sirius had never considered that.

«I… I have never thought about this…»

«Go now or you'll be late and he'll be mad…»

Sirius smiled restless at her, paid for his breakfast, and came out of the Café.
