I'm here
When he woke it was days later, silence filled the air but it was pensive and heavy. His eyes fluttered and he tried to open them but was attacked by the bright lights above him. He groaned and tried to cover his face but his hands didn’t move. Something next to him breathed heavily and he held his breath.
Squinting he opened his eyes again, glancing down to see his hands tied to the bed he lay in, bandages covered his arms but he hardly felt his body. He sighed into his fate as he looked next to him, his head wobbling to the side but his entire being stilled as grey soft eyes stared back.
He tried to move his arm again but it spasmed against the bed, he got up from the chair and leaned forwards. “Relax.” He whispered and Regulus’s breath stuttered. Sirius went to reach out his hand but didn’t touch him, his fingers barely brushed the bandages that surrounded his arms but his eyes lingered.
Regulus breathed heavy and deep as he stared, unbelieving. “Are you real?” He whispered, his voice hoarse and cracked.
Sirius looked back up at his eyes, taken aback by the question he stared back. He probably couldn’t believe it either. His eyes were searching, Regulus didn’t know what for and he tried to see to. See if he was real, if he had always been. He wanted to plead, he would beg. “Yes, yes I'm real.” He spoke, his hand came to hold his shoulder and Regulus flinched from the touch but he didn’t let go. “You're real, this is real. You're safe.”
Regulus watched as his brother tried to smile but his eyes cried. Real. It was real. “You're here.” He gasped out, letting out the breath he had been holding and a wet laugh at the absurdity. The pain. The sadness. The impossible.
Sirius stared, his hand holding him tighter and he breathed with a stuttering chest. A hand came to hold his face, it was warm and soft, he let a tear fall down onto the pillow below him and Sirius watched it fall. “Of course I am.” Sirius whispered as he brought his brother closer, letting their heads touch as they stared at each other.
There were questions, answers that were going to be painful. Memories that will bring nightmares. Dreams that will come true because of them.
For now they held each other, Sirius let Regulus rest but rested his head on his. He held him close and didn’t let go, despite the tears that filled his eyes a smile started to bloom on his face. It was filled with love, relief.
