Headmaster's office part 1
Professor Lupin showed you the way out of the classroom with a wave of his hand, so you walked together to the headmaster's office. "Worried?" Lupin finally asked after a while, after you had walked your way in silence. "Should I be?" you said with a counter question, looking at him. He stopped to give you an expression you couldn't quite place. "The headmaster is a good person, despite his cold demeanour," he said, giving you a small but warm smile. You smile back at him and keep walking.
"So your mum is an Auror?" he asked you, trying to keep the conversation going. You blush as he continues the conversation. "That certainly explains your knowledge of DADA lessons," he said knowingly, explaining himself. "I wouldn't be surprised if you know a Patronus spell either," he said but you realised it was more of a question. "What will we find out in the near future, Professor," you say, trying not to smirk. Professor Lupin hides his smirk too.
As you and Lupin reach the end of the corridor, you arrive at a copper-coloured gargoyle. The gargoyle depicts a hippogriff with its wings pointing forwards. It looks like it want to use its wings to attack. But as the wings are curved at the front at the wing tips, it also looks protective. Ob would want to protect whoever enters. You wonder if the gargoyle reflects the job of a headmaster.
As you step closer to the gargoyle, the gargoyle turns, creating stone steps on the floor to form a spiral staircase-like structure. Professor Lupin silently asks you to go up the stairs, which you silently comply with. Once at the top, you find yourself in front of a dark, solid wooden doore, that is closed. Lupin steps in front of you and knocks on the door, which unlocks and he opens it.
You enter the headmaster's office and your eyes wander to the various portraits on the walls. The people in the portraits greeted you with a wave or a nod of the head. You are polite and emulate their gesture.
Professor Lupin shows you the few steps up the stairs to where the oak desk is located. You understood the hint and head towards the desk. The desk was beautifully decorated, reminding you a little of the windows at Hogwarts. In front of the desk was a slightly offset single wooden chair, which was kept rather plain. You finally sit in the chair and try to keep a calm face. Professor Lupin finally says goodbye and leaves the room.
You were more relaxed in the quiet of the office than you had initially thought. You heard a few paintings rustling, which on the whole didn't bother you. You also noticed a few snoring noises. When you noticed a conspicuous movement in the corner of your eye, you saw a portrait diagonally above you, trying to catch your eye.
You frown as you read the caption before turning your attention to the occupant of the portrait face to face. "Mr Dumbledore, right?" you finally ask, getting his full attention. "Truly, Miss Swan - it seems to me that you are here for a very special reason," he says knowingly, straightening up in his chair. "Sir, surely you know more than I do, I was told by the Headmaster," but before you could say any more, you were interrupted by old Headmaster's portrait. "Certainly summoned by Severus," he said, nodding with satisfaction.
You had heard the current headmaster's first name several times before. "Severus," you say to yourself in your mind and have to think about the meaning of the name for a moment. You've always been interested in the meaning of names. So you vaguely remembered that the name was of Latin descent. Which meant strict, serious or conscientious. You finally chuckle a little as you realise the meaning and see his behaviour reflected in his first name. Your first name is also derived from Latin and means lively or full of life. So you were like two opposites, the strict one meets the cheerful one. If two different worlds don't collide and point to the right conflict. But before you could continue your thought, Dumbledore continued.
"Which he had only summoned to the office at my request," he said, looking through his glasses, his gaze intense but indistinct. As if he knew what was important. You realised that although the old headmaster was only a portrait of himself, he probably still had some influence in school affairs. Your fingertips suddenly tingled again as you gave him an unrecognisable expression. The situation with the change of school had probably had more to do with it than you had realised. "Sir, I don't really follow them," you lie, trying to sound clueless. Dumbledore gave you a smile. "Miss Swan, unfortunately, I'm afraid I'm the last person they'll be able to convince," he said, leaning back in his chair. You say nothing, as you want to be tactical. Finally, you lean back in your chair and give him the same satisfaction. "I'm curious to see how things might turn out with you, Miss Swan," he finish before he bogs down.
You were about to say something to that, but then you heard the office door open and a figure in black enter. You could recognise Snape's figure from a distance, you tell yourself. The way he moved seemed as if it had been rehearsed for years. Finally, you locked your minds in confusion so as not to provoke any awkward situations. Snape hurried up the small flight of stairs and his gaze followed yours. He caught the glimpse of the old Headmaster's portrait, but when he looked at Dumbledore, he was asleep in his chair as usual. He hissed in disappointment and your gaze softened.
The Headmaster quickly hurried around the desk and finally sat down opposite you on the other side. His chair was similar to the one in the portrait and you had wondered if the current headmaster also allowed himself a nap in the chair. You quickly discard the train of thought as it was rather inappropriate. Snape raised an eyebrow as he leaned back slowly. "Really inappropriate," you say to yourself in your mind, clearing your throat in your chair to keep a straight back.
"It seems to me that despite a slight incident - they got through it quite well today for their first day of school," he said, although that was more of a question. "On the whole, quite a successful day, sir," you said back politely. He nodded and took a parchment from the drawer of his desk. He scrutinised the parchment and continued. "Your choice of electives is unusually difficult for normal students - so far I only know one student who is so inquisitive," he said as he continued to look at the parchment, which was probably a copy of your timetable. "I like to be busy..." you say and pause slightly, but continue, "inquisitive - is too out of place, sir," you say and look at him with a sideways glance, moving your head more slowly. Inwardly, you pat yourself on the back because he gives you a remarkable look in response, which is very analogous to admiration. You've always known how to make a man swallow with a single look, and you didn't even care if he was the headmaster himself. Although the moment didn't last long, you noticed the situation and the brief moment he gave you.
One side of your mouth couldn't quite hide the small amount of amusement you felt, so the left corner of your mouth twitched upwards slightly. Which makes you inwardly bite your cheek slightly. Although Snape was good with his emotions, for a split second or two he was caught and carried away. You realised it, more than ever anything else in your life. Snape was a man, boys were easier to sway, but Snape was a different kettle of fish. And although your inner self was screaming at you to let it go, you couldn't help it. You felt it deep inside, this man in front of you was simply delicious in all his existence.
