It had been a long and exhausting mission for both Donna and Dawn. They had barely escaped a dangerous situation, and thr exhaution was overwhelming. Their bodies were sore and ached from the fight. Their minds were fogged from the stress, but what they needed most wasn't just rest, it was each other.
as they arrived back at the Tower, both of them were barely holding it together, the fatigue weighing down on them. Donna though knew exactly what her girlfriend would need tonight. She glanced at Dawn, her eyes softening with affection. "You're not going to want to sleep alone tonight, are you?"
Dawn gave a half laugh, half groan, nodding as she winced slightly at a sore spot in her shoulder. "Not a chance. I'm way too tired, and I need you to hold me"
Donna smiled, understanding exactly how Dawn felt. They both made their way to their room where the softest blankets were waiting. They quickly changed into their comfiest pyjamas and then collapsed onto the bed, curling up in each other's arms.
Donna pulled Dawn close, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead. "You're safe now, we're home"
Dawn smiled, burying her face in Donna's chest, her exhaution giving way to a sense of peace she only felt in her beloved girlfriend's arms. "I love you", she whispered, her voice barely audible as the exhaution was taking over her.
Donna brushed a hand through Dawn's hair and kissed the top of her head. "I love you more, sunshine", she whispered.
As they settled into the comfort of each other's warmth, the tension from the mission slowly melted away. Donna could feel Dawn's body relax against hers, and within minutes, both of them were drifting off to sleep, wrapped in each other's embrace, knowing that they're safe, as long as they were together. It was them against the world after all.
