Tests and tours
Harry woke up the next morning in his room excited for the day. He knew that today was the day that he was going to be learning what types of classes he could take at mystics as well as learn if he was eligible to take those classes. Harry got up out of his bed and went to his closest to pick out his clothing for the day. He picked out a pair of black jeans and a dark green shirt. Harry then went to his bathroom to get ready.
“Are you ready,” Draco asked Harry from the other side of the door to his bedroom.
“One minute,” Harry yelled back, pulling on his shoes.
Harry then left his room and walked to the breakfast room with Draco. Once he sat down a plate was sat in front of him filled with food. Harry started eating, letting the small amount of conversation wash over him.
“Harry,” Lucius asked. “What classes are you hoping for?”
“Charms, Transfiguration, defensive and offensive magics, runes,” Harry started listening, “basic potions, advanced potions, care of magical creatures, history of magic, history of the muggle world, and muggle science.”
“Many good classes,” Narcissa said from her spot.
“Those also are some of the hardest classes to get into,” Lucius said. “Though knowing the fact that you could produce a full formed patronus at only 13 will make it to where you will at least get into the defense class and the charms class. The beginning potions class is required as is muggle science and both history classes.”
“That’s the reason I picked them for the test,” Harry said.
“Are you both ready for the test,” Narcissa asked.
“Yes,” Draco and Harry said in unison.
“Good,” Lucius said. “Once you both are done eating we will be Flooing to Mystics.”
“Ok,” Harry said, going back to his food.
Harry ate quickly not wanting to be late to take his tests to see what classes he could take and which classes he needed to retake or could not take. At 8:30 am the Malfoy family crowded around the fireplace. Harry and Lucius left the cottage first before Draco followed. Narcissa was staying behind because she wanted to get to know the Vampire coven that lived not that far from them.
“Good, you're here on time,” Corbin said right as Draco landed inside of the school. “Come along. You two need to take your tests.”
Corbin led the group through the hallways of the school and down a few flights of stairs before they ended in front of a large room that was set up for multiple tests. On one side of the room there was a dulling platform set up with multiple targets and dummies. On the other side of the room there were multiple desks two of which were set up for the potion test.
“Which classes were you wishing to take,” Corbin asked before they entered the room.
“Charms, Transfiguration, defensive and offensive magics, runes, advanced potions, both history classes,” Harry said, “and any required muggle classes.”
“The same except for the runes and advanced potions,” Draco said. “Instead of runes I want to take the magical creature class. Just regular potions for me.”
“Ok,” Corbin said. “We will start with the charms, defensive and offensive magic tests.”
After corbin said that he led them to the platform where he had them use every spell they had learned in charms as well as defense against the dark arts in the targets and dummies. The first two tests last an hour all together. The two then took a break before taking the written test for charms and then defensive and offensive magic. For both tests there were 20 or so questions most being multiple choice but with 3 essay format questions towards the end. After they were finished with those test they were given the history tests which were an essay on both world wars and their impact on both the magical and non magical worlds.
“Now we have to wait for the potions professor to get here as well as the magical creature professor so that you can take the last few tests,” Corbin said. “Do you wish to do the transfiguration tests now or after.”
“Now,” Harry said.
“It will be faster that way,” Draco said.
“Then let's start,” Corbin said, placing a few items on the table.
The two were told to show off what they had learned at Hogwarts in transfiguration. Harry started with the first year spells before moving on. Once he was finished with the third year spells Harry transformed one of the glasses that was on the table into a spider before turning it back into the glass it was before. Harry then turned one of the quills into a snake and then turned the snake into a bird before turning it back into a quill. Draco tried to do something similar but ended up only changing the type of feather the quill was made of. The two then sat down and took the test which was surprisingly all multiple choice.
“It seems that we have someone who is gifted,” a voice said from the door. “You must be the new student who wishes to take advanced potions as a 4th year student. I am Professor Night.”
“I’m Harry Potter sir,” Harry said.
“I hope you are just as adept at potions as you are at spell work,” the professor said.
“I believe I am sir,” Harry said. “I have been working with my grandfather in my mind for the last week or so.”
“And who is your grandfather if you don’t mind me asking,” Professor Night asks.
“His grandfather is Tom Riddle also known as Voldemort,” Lucius told him.
“I have heard of him,” the Professor said. “If you are just as good at potions as him you might be able to be my apprentice.”
“Really,” Harry asks.
“If you are as good as your Grandfather,” Professor Night said. “Yes. Now lets begin making the potion.”
Professor Night placed a piece of paper next to both cauldrons. Harry went to the Cauldron with his name next to it. Harry looked at the paper before grabbing the ingredients the potion called for. Once Harry had grabbed all the ingredients at his station and measured out he started to make the potion. He placed the cauldron on top of the burner before turning the burner on to 300 degrees fahrenheit. Once the cauldron was to the right temperature Harry added in the first two ingredients before stirring the potion for a minute. Harry then prepared the next three ingredients before adding them in as well. Harry stirred the potion until it turned a light green color. Harry then started chopping up a few of the ingredients before stirring the potion once more. Before Harry added in the next Ingredients he checked over the paper once more to see if he was doing it correctly. Harry then added in the next ingredients and turned the burner down to 55 degrees fahrenheit. He then stirred the potion for five minutes before preparing the last of the ingredients to be added. At exactly the 8 minute mark from when he last stirred the potion Harry added the last three ingredients in before stirring in one last time. Harry then brought the cauldron back up to a boil before grabbing one of the large potion veils that was on the wall and ladling in the potion.
“You did well,” Professor Night said. “Most 7th years are not even able to complete that potion. Now let's see if it works how it is supposed to.”
Professor Night cut open his hand before pouting exactly a drop of the potion onto the cut. The blood on the Professor’s hand started to bubble for a moment before the cut closed completely leaving nothing behind.
“It worked,” Professor Night said. “It even cleaned the blood and the wound of the colorent that was on the knife that I used.”
“What does that mean,” Lucius asked.
“It means,” Professor Night said. “That Harry gets to be my Apprentice instead of being in advanced Potions.”
“Really,” Harry asks?
“Yes,” Professor Night says. “That potion has only ever been successfully made by two other people. Myself and Potions master Snape.”
“What,” Harry asked. “That potion hasn’t been made properly by others.”
“No it has not been,” Professor Night said. “You are the first person in the last decade to make the potion without it blowing up. You have a gift for potions.”
“Thank you,” Harry said.
“How have I done with my potion,” Draco asked the Professor.
“You did well,” Professor Night said. “You’ll be put in advanced potions if it does what it is supposed to.”
Professor Night then grabbed a plant off of another table before putting two drops of the potion onto it. The plant grew larger before a flower that was on it bloomed. Professor Night then placed the plant back down on the table.
“You both did well,” Professor Night said.
“Let’s get the tour done,” Corbin said.
Corbin then led the group through the school. First he showed them the dinning hall where lunch was served every day for the students. Corbin then showed them the Defensive and Offensive magics hall. After that he showed them the potion hallway and then the muggle science hallway. Then he showed them the charms and transfiguration hallways. Before finally showing them the History hallway. Once Corbin was done showing them the inside of the school he showed them the school grounds. Corbin started with the maze that was not far from the entrance of the school that was used for end of year tests for all students. He then showed them the care of magical creatures classroom as well as the stables. After that he showed them the Herbalgy class room and greenhouses.
