Healing More Than Just Wounds

Y/n is a skilled healer, experienced in mostly potions but does well with spellwork too. She was forced into this art due to her friends getting into multiple physical conflicts at one point every day. By her 5th year at Hogwarts, she became a master at her craft, quickly mending any kind of harm that comes their way. Some people would even say she healed their emotional wounds but she doesn’t like to take credit for that, saying that they healed themselves.

It was now the summer before her 7th year and she was tasked with a mission by Dumbledore. He believed her skill of being good with children could help her to convince one particularly special child to attend the school.

Y/n walked in front of her friends Matteao, Blaise, Draco, and her boyfriend Theo, smiling slightly as she led the group to the orphanage. In front of them, she listened to their banter, not joining in, but just admiring silently. Although sometimes they caused her trouble, her heart still ached for them, she cared for them a lot. Maybe she had a bit of a savior complex which was ironic since she was a healer. Despite their arguments, she would always tend to their wounds if needed, doing her best to heal whichever one needed it. This was her group of troublemakers, her closest and dearest friends and she wouldn’t want it any other way. She just hoped they cared for her as much as she did for them.

They group stood in front of a gloomy looking orphanage, the worn out sign reading “Wool’s Orphanage.” Its bleakness bled into the interior of the building. Although she didn’t expect an orphanage to be the most chewy place, this was worse than she could have imagined. The lights flickered and it was so chilly as if it were haunted.

She walked to the front dress and the lady at the counter was wearing an outfit as gloomy as the rest of this place. Her name tag read “Edna.” “Hi ma’am, I'm here to see Tom Marvolo Riddle.” I say as nicely as I could. The woman gives her a look, but compiles. This worries y/n a little but she stays focused. “If you must, right this way.” The old lady leads the group to a room that has its door open. She turns to the group of boys, “do you want to stay out here while I go in?” She asked them. She didn’t want to be rude, she just thought it might be intimidating and weird for the boy if a group of 17 year olds walked into his room trying to convince him that magic was real and that there was a school dedicated to teaching it. Regardless, they nodded. After all this was a task for y/n, they just tagged along.

She walked into the room and smiled sweetly at the small boy sitting in a chair by a desk under a windowsill. “Hi, I’m Y/N, can I sit here?” She indicated to the bed. He nodded and she sat down. He was sitting on the chair causing them to be about equal to eye level. “So what’s your name?” She asked despite already knowing it. “Tom,” he spoke quietly. He made eye contact, but there was little to no expression on his face. “Well it’s very nice to meet you Tom.” She says to which he just shrugs.

“I have something for you,” she begins to dig through her coat pocket for the item she had brought. He looks interested now. She pulls out a book, Hogwarts: A History. “I heard you liked reading.” She knew getting a kid a book as a present was kind of lame especially since he seemed to be interested in what she had brought him, but she knew he liked reading and this way, he’d get some information about Hogwarts beforehand if he chooses to go. “How did you know I liked reading?” He asks her. She gets embarrassed, “Um I did a little research. I always do a bunch of research before doing anything. It’s a bad habit of mine.” She admitted. “How is that a bad habit?” He asks her, “That actually sounds really useful.” She smiles at his response. “Well yes, but it takes me forever to start anything if I don’t know everything I possibly can about it.” He just nods, “thanks for the book, what’s it about?” He asks, eyeing the book.

“That's actually what I came here to talk to you about Tom.” She told him,“have you ever been able to do unexplainable things? Like moving something without touching it, or making an object change its shape, or anything unusual?” She is glad to finally be getting into the point of this interaction. The boy nods, “Yes, and I can make animals do what I want without training them.” He is hesitant to say the next part,“I can make bad things happen to people who are mean to me. I can make them hurt... if I want.” Although this information scared her, she was glad he was willing to open up to her. “So I assume you have hurt people before,” she notices a change in him and quickly defends her words, “i’m not judging you, in fact, i’ve hurt people too.” She admitted. “But that’s between us okay?” He chuckles and she is glad she could make him laugh, “What did you do to them?” He asks her. She is hesitant to share what she had done but does anyways as this is a chance for her to get closer to him, “There was this girl who made fun of me for eating, so I made her so bloated she flew away.” He laughs. It is nice to see the gloomy look on his face replaced with a smile.

“So what did you do? You little monster.” She asks jokingly. “I made a guy who made fun of me, stab himself with a pencil.” He says with a smile on his face. This is concerning to Y/n, “Oh” Is all she can manage to say. “So why is it we are like this?” He asks genuinely interested. This got y/n out of her thoughts, “Right so, you are a wizard Tom,” She tells him straight up, “thats why you can do these things. There is a school, Hogwarts-” she puts a hunger on the book, “-that teaches witches and wizards to use magic. It’s up to you if you’d like to attend.” He thinks for a moment and she thinks he will not respond.

Edna walks in, “We close in 5 minutes, all visitors must leave, wrap this up.” She says flatly. The boys walk into the room, probably to inform her of what Edna had just said. “Well I guess I got to go now Tom.” She tells the boy and starts to gather her things to leave. “Wait.” Tom grabs her wrist,“ Will I see you again?” The boy asks her. This time Theo speaks up, “you can see her everyday if you attend Hogwarts.” Theo smirks at her after he says this. “I’ll go.” The young Riddle boy states. “Perfect. I’ll see you at the start of the school year Tom. Don’t worry you’ll be sent a letter that gives you all the information you need.” She waves at him and the boy throws himself into her arms. She reciprocates the hug, putting one hand on the back of his head and one on the back of his neck. He pulls away from the hug and puts the book out in front of him to give it back to her. “Keep it, it’s yours.” She tells him then ruffles his hair and leaves.

“Looks like the young Riddle boy has a crush on you.” Blaise teases. “Well he better back off, ‘cause she’s mine.” Theo says sternly and snakes one arm around her waist as they walk. She giggles at this. Blaise makes a gagging noise. “That’s what Y/n will be doing.” Draco snickers. Y/n playfully punches his arm. “Ow! That arm hasn’t fully healed yet y/n!” “That’s what you get.” Y/n replies.

“Hey, isn’t it a bit strange you guys have the same last name” Blaise points out, pointing a finger to Mattheo. “Yeah that is a bit strange,” Mattheo thinks, “maybe we’re related.” He jokes.

As they leave, Tom watches from the window in his room, but none of them notice.
