Lily Evans was a writer. A failed one at that according to her sister who was ‘happily’ married to an overweight man and now has an even more overweight baby. Talking about babies, everyone around her is having them, James and Regulus, Remus and Sirius are looking into adopting, Marlene and Dorcas are looking for sperm donors and last of all Pandora is heavily pregnant with a lovely man’s baby called Xenophilius, whilst she is a failed author with no love life.
“A hot chocolate with whipped cream and marshmallows, venti, please,” she sighs but holds a smile for the cashier.
“That’ll be £6.99, please,” what’s the point in the ‘99’ might as well make it £7 because why on earth would she need an extra penny? She pays for it anyway.
Just before she can turn to the collecting point a girl blocks her way. A very pretty girl, “Oh, I’m sorry. I wasn’t focusing properly, something happened and I kind of spaced out,” the girl smiles, oh my word, her smile, Lily inwardly melts.
“Oh, it’s no problem, hope whatever happened is okay though,” she smiles before going over to the collection point where, surprisingly, her hot chocolate awaits her.
“It isn’t my girlfriend just broke up with me,” the girl slaps a hand to her mouth and blushes, nervously laughing, “I don’t know why I told you that, you’re not homophobic, are you?”
“Definitely not, I’m gay,” Lily laughs before realising what she said, “I don’t know why I told you that,”
“At least I’m not the only one,” the girl says, “I’m Mary, by the way, incase you were wondering,”
“I’m Lily, you have a wonderful name,” she smiles, blowing on her hot chocolate.
“So do you,” Mary smiles, “What did you get?”
“Oh, I got a hot chocolate,” Lily says sheepishly, blushing.
“That’s what I was about to get,” Mary visibly lights up and grins happily.
“Well, I’ll see you around, Mary, and sorry about your girlfriend,” Lily says after a few moments of studying each other, she turns and starts to head to the door.
“Call me Ary,”
“What?” Lily turns.
“Call me Ary, that’s usually what people call me,” Mary smiles softly at her.
“Then call me Lils,”
“I thought you were over me, Potter,”
“Oh, shut up and tell me what to wear!” James cries out, sorting through all his clothes.
“You’ve been married to this man for a year, James. I think he would take you even if you wore a bin bag!” Lily groans, rolling her eyes.
“Yes! Whatever! Now tell me!”
“You have a literal kid with him,”
“Oh, no! I’d never noticed, now which one?” James holds up three outfits.
“Wear the brown trousers with the white button-down, he’ll be on his knees when he sees you,” Lily laughs, “Then he’ll scold me for telling you what to wear,”
“Okay, okay, thanks, Lils, bye, love you,” James rushes forward and hangs up the phone leaving Lily with a lonely feeling in the pit of her stomach, surrounded by boxes that she couldn’t be bothered to unpack yet.
Lily sighs, opening up apps at random and checking if anyone had texted. Then it turned into a game, how many she could name and open the right app with, turns out her intuition was worse than she imagined.
She checks the time, 8 o’ clock, what the fuck is she suppose to do? Go to sleep?
And that she does before she gets bored and goes back in her phone and gets bored again. This time she picks up Little Woman which she’s sure she’s read over a hundred times. Now that, that did not get her bored.
By the time she gets tired it’s one in the morning and she’s got to have a talk with her agent, Frank, at 10 tomorrow.
With a sigh, she settles back in her bed, finally falling asleep, completely exhausted.
That night she dreams about brown curly hair and red lipstick.
Her alarm wakes her, for once, but it’s not long before a slipper is thrown at it in which it only gets louder.
Lily groans and gets up, quickly finishing getting ready to go down to the cafe to meet Frank.
“Finally,” he rolls his eyes before taking a look at her and wincing, “You look hungover as fuck,”
“I just went to bed late, I’m fine, continue,”
“Okay, if you’re sure,”
“I’m sure,”
“Okay, so…”
By the time they finish it’s over twelve but really, she’s glad. Lily didn’t want to be lonely.
“Thanks, Frank, call you later, send my love to Alice!” She calls back to him and he sending a thumbs up to her before leaving her at the front door.
Oh, did she forget to mentioned Alice and Frank are married with a kid as well?
“Alone,” she shuts the front door, “Again,”
A ping interrupts her thoughts and she scrambles to grab her phone before scolding herself and opening the message.
