If only love could save you
Regulus was sat in a very uncomfortable chair beside James hospital bed, they were in the hospital wing and ms pomfrey had just stitched up his cuts and gave him sleeping draught and pain meds.
Regulus sat there worrying, lost in his own thoughts but was shortly interrupted when a certain red head ran into the hospital wing with tears in her eyes, ready to burst.
“Oh my-“ she felt like she couldn’t breath, regulus gave her a hug as she started to cry
“What happen- why di- I-“
“Shhh he’s going to be alright, madam pomfrey did everything she could and said he should wake up soon”
Lily was in pure shock “how did I not notice, I should’ve notice, I saw something was wrong and I didn’t do anything- oh poor Jamie, he was all alone and-“ Lily ranted but was cut off “Lily. None of this is your fault ,ok?”
“O-ok”
Regulus would be lying if he didn’t just have the same reaction mere moments ago

They stayed like that for a while, taking in one another, hugging tightly but their peace was interrupted by Remus, peter and Marlene coming with Sirius closely behind them after regulus asked Sirius to grab the three
“Got them” Sirius said as he walk in, hand in hand with Remus, Peter trailing behind.
As soon as Remus sees James, his hand goes over his mouth and his eyes begin to tear up,. Peter just stands there, no emotion, he just stare at James who lays there, bandages covering where is scars lay and looks paler than ever.

Everyone sat in uncomfortable chairs sitting around James waiting for him to wake up. No one spoke up for a while, Regulus and Lily are cuddled up together while they hold hands hoping for James to be ok, Sirius is sitting in remus’ lap with his head of his chest, and Peter is sitting, slouched, while his leg shakes in anxiety
“Regulus” Sirius mumbles, almost inaudible. Regulus let’s about a slight ‘hmm’ as he stares at James.
“What happens if……if he isn’t ok?” Sirius worries, bitting is lip anxiously.
Regulus pauses, finally looking Sirius in the eye “what if he isn’t ok? Sirius, he isn’t ok now, he tried to….” Regulus sighs “James isn’t ok, there’s no ‘what of’ he needs help and we’re going to give it to him” regulus basically shouts, obviously upset, I mean who wouldn’t?
“Come here” Sirius motions for regulus to come over and stands up.
“What?” “You heard me, come here”
Regulus stands up and walks over to Sirius as Sirius embraces regulus into a big hug. Regulus finally breaks and let’s put a heartbreaking sob. “Shhh it’s ok…… it’s ok, let it out” Sirius reassured regulus, his hand running up and down regulus’ back

After regulus calmed down -still teary but not sobbing his heart out-
They all return to sitting in silence waiting for something to happen. But nothing did, James didn’t move an inch, except for his chest rising, reassuring them he was alive.
“You guys do know what this means” Remus speaks up, everyone turns their heads to look at him
“He’s going to need help, even if he won’t want it, we need to be checking up on him, no more of this staying silent and ignoring his ‘Im fine’ bit, if he isn’t doing ok we need to act on it” Remus lectures them.
Remus cares so much about James, Remus felt as if he owes him for all the full moons he took after him, all the times he got into duels because people making fun of remus, all the times James was there for him. Now It was remus’ turn to look after him.
