Narcissa Malfoy -neé Black- was furious. She felt betrayed, even though it was not an actual betrayal. She didn’t even really remember what had happened. She only knew that her Beloved Alice was in St Mungo and she knew the reason. She knew who did it. Her closest one, the only family she had left, had betrayed her.
She remembers screaming at her older sister, Bellatrix. The older sister didn’t even know why she was so furious. She always knew something was up with the Longbottom and her little sister, but she didn’t know it was such a strong connection.
Bellatrix knew she shouldn’t ask her sister about it, especially since Alice was at St mungo. Ever since Bellatrix, her husband and the minister's son had attacked the Longbottoms, Narcissa was kind of off. She had told Narcissa’s husband, Lucius to check on her, but she could see he didn’t really do anything except for pleasing his lord.
And now, the eldest daughter of the Blacks was trying to find her baby sister. Even though the society knew the powerful witch as a heartless death eater, she cared a lot about her little sister, especially since her other sister, Andromeda had run away and betrayed their family.
While Bellatrix was trying to find Narcissa everywhere, she didn’t think about St mungo.
Narcissa Black couldn’t take it anymore. The blonde girl couldn’t even eat while being aware of what had happened to her first love.
“Hello! How can I help you ma'am?” had asked the employee at the Hospital of Magical Maladies and injuries. She was a tall brunette girl, she reminded Narcissa of the person she was here to visit.
“Hello, I was wondering if I could visit my friend, Alice Longbottom?” The blonde girl asked with the knowledge of the answer. The nurse shook her head swiftly and led her to Alice’s room.
“You have around fifteen to twenty minutes to visit, the patient has just gotten better and she has to rest a lot!” The nurse gave Narcissa the information and walked away from the old door.
The blonde girl stood in front of the door for a while, she didn’t know how long, but not a lot till she opened the door and saw the big dark eyes. They were just the same as it was when they were in Hogwarts. But there was something different about it, they didn’t have the love it did before.
Narcissa walked to the girl with lots of injuries, she was frightened. She saw a little chair next to the bed Alice was sleeping in, inside the room full of white.
“Hi” Narcissa said as she sat on the chair. She was holding back her tears when she looked up to the brown eyes. They looked confused, wondering why this fancy woman with an engagement ring.
“Why did you come here? I don’t know you…” Her voice was cracked, Narcissa couldn’t help the tears falling down to her cheeks. Tiredness marked her face wearily, swiping at tears. Every movement showed how exhaustion was burdening both her body and spirit.
Narcissa looked back at Alice as she got control over her tears and emotions, she looked strong again. “Can you at least talk to me so I can hear your voice again?” She asked with a voice that cracked intermittently, revealing the strain and vulnerability in her words.
“Okay” said Alice easily, as if it was nothing, but it was a lot more for Narcissa, she was almost as glad as she was when she gave birth to her son, when Alice started talking about her days in the Hospital.
Narcissa put a small smile on her face when Alice started talking about how this nurse had told her that she had to eat pea -Alice hates pea, and Narcissa knows that-. Narcissa could see that she was not the real Alice though. Even if she still didn’t like peas or if her favorite color was still blue, she didn’t talk like Alice did. Her spark was gone.
Alice sometimes had to get a break, and start talking again. Narcissa remembers how fast Alice used to talk. She was happy about it too. She loved the way her mouth was full of words which never seemed to run out.
When Alice was taking a break from talking again, the nurse came in and told Narcissa her time was over. Alice seemed a bit sad even though she didn’t remember her memories with Narcissa. She felt a connection, their chemistry was very similar. Narcissa remembered if she knew it was Narcissa’s sister who made her suffer here like this, Alice would hate her.
She didn’t take her time to leave the room or the hospital. When she came home and saw her sister, she was ready to explode. Till she saw her newborn son playing with her. Even though Narcissa was so mad at her older sister and wanted her to be in the situation Alice was right now, she was her sister. Bellatrix and Andromeda had raised her, she couldn’t hate any of them.
She decided to forget about it till Draco -her son- was away with his father. She didn’t want him to grow up in a loud household like she did.
As she walked to her sister and her son, playing some kind of magical baby game, she put a big smile on her face and watched them silently, while they were being the loudest they could.
She couldn’t help but think about Alice’s son, who was now an orphan because of her sister. She wanted Draco to be friends with him in Hogwarts, when they grew older. Even though she knew that would never happen. But who knows? She thought she could never even talk to Alice Fortescue, but here we are.
Her spark was gone the day she had to end things with Alice, and now she was going to get back her spark with her son and her sister. Even though she did not know her sister was getting put into Azkaban a few days later. She was going to get her spark back, by visiting Alice, even though she had moved on. She was going to give her son the best life he could imagine. Her only reason to stay here was his son right now, and she was ready to die to let him have the freedom she didn’t have.
