King Of My Heart
The red haired girl was in fact not ready. Or she was ready physically, thanks to her blonde -or pink since she decided to dye her hair yesterday around two am- friend had helped her to choose a fit and what kind of makeup she should wear. Lily was not ready for this mentally, she was not ready to see pictures with her and James, but the pictures were only about how talented James is or how emotional Lily was. But never about how two talented professional hockey players were actually getting to know each other.
Marlene had realized how anxious Lily was, by the way Lily looked into the mirror as she waited for James to call her. Marlene always knew when something was wrong with Lily, even though Lily was really good with hiding her feelings.
Since middle school, Lily used to get a bit of hate for not being as good looking as her older sister. Lily always seemed to not care about it, but Marlene knew she did care, she always cared. That was how their friendship had grown stronger, how Lily and Marlene were basically sisters.
Marlene’s blue eyes were pointed at Lily’s pink lips. She had this small nervous smile, Marlene hated that. “Hey, don’t worry about it. Who cares about Social Media anyways!” She exclaimed, her tone upbeat and encouraging. The pink haired girl knew Lily didn’t think about what social media said, she knew the consequences of being a professional PWHL player. But Marlene also knew how much Lily hated being known by someone else, not Lily, not her talent, not her actions, but someone and never her.
Lily turned her head toward Marlene, who stood right beside her, though slightly behind, and offered a gentle smile. “Fuck off, I’m the captain of the team! I should be motivating you!” She snapped with a sarcastic anger as Marlene laughter filled the whole room.
The girl’s laughter was interrupted by Lily’s phone ringing, it was James. Lily didn’t take a lot of time to answer the phone call. He assured her he would arrive in just a few minutes, advising her not to stress and ended the call.
“Well, this amazing woman has a date! See you babes, xoxo!” Lily exclaimed as she kissed Marlene's cheeks and walked towards the door, picking up her flat shoes.
She heard Marlene wishing her good luck as she was closing the door.
“You’re even more charming than the last time I saw you m’am!” The masculine voice had distracted Lily as she was looking for James; even though he was talking to her.
Her cherry lips curled into a smile as she hugged the curly haired boy. “Lovely to meet you too, Potter.” She replied as he opened the the passenger door
James had started driving as he approached the driver's seat. “Where are we going?” Lily asked as she looked around the window.
“I know that you don’t want to do all this fancy thing on our first date,” he waited for her to agree, as she nodded. “So I thought we could go around the Yorkdale mall, get some sushi and crash to my place?”
Lily was really surprised by how much he knew about her. One thing about Lily is that she doesn't like to eat outdoors. She does that sometimes of course, when they go out as a team. But she is not comfortable with doing that, it brings back memories as Marlene says.
Her red lips lifted up to her cheeks as she nodded quickly. “That sounds amazing!” She cheered.
“It’s so boring without some music, Ed. Take my phone and put on some bangers” Lily side eyed James sarcastically for the nickname he gave her. No one except Alice and Mary would usually call her Ed, as in Ed Sheeran, so Lily got a weird feeling about getting called by that nickname by her date.
One thing everyone knows about Lily Evans is that she loves Taylor Swift’s music, obviously. Even the media, her ‘haters’, friends, ex partners and just everyone who knows about her existence. She is really proud of that.
Lily did not resist to put on one of her favorite Taylor Swift’s songs when James handed his phone over.
“I’m perfectly fine,” she put her hands on herself, showing who she was talking about.
“I live on my own! I made up my mind,” she continued to sing as she felt James’ eyes on her for a few seconds. “I’m better off bein’ alone!”
“King of my heart? I knew you loved me, Lily, but you didn’t have to make it that obvious…” James said sarcastically as he laughed. Lily side eyed him once again and continued to silently sing the song.
The green pupils had turned to James as they stopped in front of the big mall. “It’s been a while since I’ve been to yorkdale, you know” she said as she approached the passenger door, just to get interupted by James.
“Wait!” He said as he held Lily’s wrist and stopped her. He left the car and walked towards Lily’s door. He opened the door gently and grabbed the red head’s hand, helping her to get out of the car.
“Didn’t know you were such a gentleman…” She said with a sarcastic shocked tone.
James just laughed, for her words, also for her outfit. James had just dressed casually, but it was obvious that Lily was not expecting to go on a date at a mall. James felt bad for disappointing her; so he was gonna try to make this date way better than what Lily had expected before leaving the house.
They started walking inside the mall, aware of the eyes on them. Almost every Canadian watched Hockey, so they were well known in Canada. But that was not the only reason, also because of how overdressed Lily was. But she couldn’t care less, it was her first date after a long time and she thought she looked stunning, nothing else mattered.
“Oh my God! I’ve forgotten how big the Lego shop here was!” Lily silently screamed when she saw the Lego store. Compared to other Lego stores, Yorkdales was of course a lot bigger.
James didn’t take a second to grab Lily’s hand and drag her into the store after he saw her excitement. James personally loved Legos, it helped him to deal with his ADHD. So he adored legos probably as much as Lily.
“Look! There is a NHL one!” Lily showed James with excitement. Lily was actually really mature, but seeing Legos reminded her of her childhood, especially when her and her sister used to work extra at summer just to get Lego’s. She didn’t come from wealth, younger Lily would be so happy to see older Lily being able to buy whichever Lego she wants.
“Let’s get that one then, even though we don’t know anything about hockey!” James said and snapped his fingers as he took the box.
It was not the biggest one, but fun to build with someone, it would probably take them around thirty minutes to make it, especially since they loved making legos.
They left the Lego shop with a bag, full of three other boxes of legos.
As they realized they started to get hungry, James bought them a sixty pack sushi menu. Lily was not going to let him pay, she almost convinced him, but a little fan -monster as Lily calls him- came up to Lily and asked for a picture. She couldn’t be happier to take a picture with him, but she was not aware of James paying for the sushi as they were taking goofy pictures.
And right now, Lily was making fun of the pictures James had on his wall of Sirius and himself when he was younger.
“Oh my god! I remember this day!” Lily pointed at the picture of Sirius ‘almost’ slapping Slughorn’s -their math teacher back in high school- butt. “It was so close!” James said as they both started laughing.
James took a roll and put it inside his mouth, sitting on the couch, watching Lily walk up to his side.
“Classic rolls are definitely my favorites, love them” Lily said as she dipped one into her soya. They had planned to eat and build the NHL Lego at the same time. James said they could manage to do that.
Some time passed, they were done building their NHL Lego, they were full and Lily had just told James she was heading home. Of course, James had left her to her house with his car, since Lily didn’t bring her car.
“Today was nice, we could do this again.” Lily said with a small smile before leaving James’ expensive car.
“Of course, Ed, you still have my number” he winked at Lily, and she responded with a small punch to his arm.
Lily wished James a good night and left his car.
